Allen laughed at what had probably been the most out of control thing she'd ever done. He doubted if she'd ever even ditched school, or ran away, or any of the stuff he percieved as 'normal', really. ''Hehe, well, it could've been worse, I s'pose. A friednd I once had did the opposite. He was really rebellious, till his grandma died, and then he just sorta... 'settled down', as his parents called it. I called it him losing his spirit.'' He got a slightly sad look on his face at the memory, but quickly shook it off and smiled at her again.
Well now. I should... Probably put something intelligent here. At some point. Eventually.

Nena smiled at Allen hesitantly. "Its funny, isn't it?" she said quietly. "How much grandparents effect people." Then she sighed dramatically, and after a quick internal debate, she put her arm around Allen's shoulder. "My brother," she said with a grin, "you have quite the ability to turn conversations somewhat depressing, you know that?"

''Ah, that's one of my many gifts.'' He said, grinning back. ''Ok, then, I'll change it to something positive.'' After a moment, his face looking thoughtful, he had a slightly defeated look on his face, along with the amusement still evident. ''Fluffy puppies.'' He said eventually, a triumphant appearance now taking over.

Nena had to laugh at that. "You're not as bad as I thought you'd be," she admitted, removing her arm from Allen's shoulder. She smiled again, and added, "How can you manage to look so terrifying and still be a complete --well, a complete dork is beyond me." She glanced up and nearly groaned. "I think we might be going the wrong way."

''Oh well. May as well keep going this way, see what we find.'' Allen replied, giving a slight laugh. ''Terrifying, eh? I look scarewy?'' He laughed some more, before looking back at her again. ''And I am not a dork. I am a... oh... hurm. I am a terrifying cool person.'' His eyes glittered with happiness, as they did whenever he had a reason to be happy. He tried to find a reason to be happy at least once a day, so most of the time, his eyes were like this.

"But my parents..." Nena trailed off, glancing back in the direction they'd came. Her parents wouldn't be happy if she didn't take Allen to the mall. But then, Allen didn't really want to go, anyway, did he? And he wouldn't tell them. "Alright," she said finally. "I've never actually gone this way, anyway. It would be interesting to know what's around here..." She tried to hide her apprehension behind a smile. "And you, sir, are most certainly a dork."

Allen laughed, putting on his poshest tone of voice. ''Yes, m'lady. What ever you say, m'lady, I must be a dork.'' He grinned at her again, shaking his head in amusement. ''Really? Every time I get to a new town, I explore it and make sure I know my way around as soon as possible.'' He arched his eyebrows in slight surprise that she'd never been that way, when it was so close to her house.

Nena blushed slightly. "What? Its not like I've ever needed to go this way. School, the mall, my friends' houses --everything is in the other direction. I don't go exploring. This is the first time I've actually walked anywhere in a really long time. Usually I would've called my friends to take me to the mall, but I..." she trailed off, not wanting to say 'but I didn't want them to see you.' She bit the inside of her cheek. She probably didn't even need to say it; Allen could practically read her thoughts.

Allen rolled his eyes as she cut off, but decided not to comment on it. ''If you don't ever go exploring, you never know what you're missing out on. Sure, it could be miles and miles of city again. Or, it could be something amazing, like a truly wild forest or a pristine lake, or anything. Anything is possible, Nena.'' He smiled softly at her, before clearing his throat. ''Anyway, it's fun.''

Nena frowned. "But I don't like lakes," she muttered. "You step in them and nasty goop gets between your toes, no matter how pristine the water looks. Its disgusting." Louder, she said, "You don't really seem like the nature-loving type, I must admit."

Allen gave a small laugh at her deion of a lake. Shrugging his shoulders, he cocked his head at her and smiled. ''As far as I know, I'm not really a 'type'. I either like something, or I don't. Plants, trees... I like them.'' He smiled again, his eyes growing slightly distant.

"Oh, you're a type, alright," Nena smiled. her phone went off, then, and she sighed as she flipped it open. "We can't go exploring for very long," she said. "That was a message from my father. He wants to take us out to lunch, when he gets off of work."

Allen couldn't help but laugh at her outburst. ''No offence, love, but you're no garden of roses either.'' He said, grinning. He glanced up at the cloudless sky, and saw a path that seemed to lead to a less densely packed area of town than the rest. ''Hey, let's go this way.'' He suggested, grinning still.
