''Nah, it's ok.'' Allen replied casually, brushing it off. ''Yeah. They don't actually know who my parents are. I'd like to think they're sitting in some cell somewhere.'' He added brightly. He wasn't joking, either. They abandoned him, they could forget it if they ever wanted to have him back again. They were some of the only two people he could hold a grudge against. And, worst thing was, he didn't even know their names. His face was unreadable, only the smallest hint of sadness in his eyes, even that barely noticable unless you knew him well.
Well now. I should... Probably put something intelligent here. At some point. Eventually.

"So, what? They dumped you on the front porch of the orphanage in a little basket with a note in the middle of the night during a rain storm?" Nena very nearly snorted, because really, stuff like that just didn't happen. "Have you lived in an orphanage your whole life, then? You've never been in foster care or anything like that?"

Allen shrugged his shoulders. ''During a storm? No. Middle of the night? Yes. In a basket with a note? They didn't bother with either.'' He shrugged his shoulders, before moving on to the next question. ''Well, I've been adopted several times, but never lasted more than a month.'' He said, sticking his hands into his jeans pockets.

Nena frowned. "Oh. I didn't know people actually did that. I thought they had to fill out forms or something." She chewed her lip thoughtfully. "No more than a month? Why's that?" She smiled lightly, and reached out to poke Allen's shoulder as she said, "Too much of a dangerous hoodlum for them? They couldn't handle you?"

With my track record, surprised they picked me. I mean, they could've easily gotten any other kid.'' He added, laughing just a little.

He smiled, and laughed at the look on her face. ''Well, when I was nine, there was this big prom thing going on at my local high school. They captured all these poor swans, and kept them in a cage in the school for a week. So, I felt sorry for them, broke into the school, and set them all free.''

"That's just..." Nena shook her head, at a loss for words. "You live a very strange life, you know that? The most I've ever done to get in trouble was using my fingers to eat once when I was at Grandmother's," she shivered. "Let me tell you, you've not ever been punished until you've been punished by my grandmother. I loved her to death, but she was terrifying."

Allen rolled his eyes at this. ''Really now? She ever release a dog- a very big dog, an irish wolfhound- that really disliked you, and command it to chase you and bite you?'' He raised his eyebrows, remembering that. He'd stayed up in a tree for at least an hour, and the dog had stayed, nipping at his heels.

"Hmm...no," Nena said thoughtfully. "But she did once cut off all of my hair because I wouldn't stop pulling on it. She said it was an unladylike habit that I needed to be rid of. And she had a vicious little Pomeranian --I've got scars on my arms from its teeth, and it almost bit off my toe."

"Small dogs are evil!" Nena insisted. "Look, I'll show you." She yanked up her sleeve , revealing her arm up to her elbow. The skin was decorated with little blackish dots and small lines. "Scars," she repeated shoving her arm at him just to prove her point. "I nearly had to change schools because people started insisting I was some sort of drug addict!"

"That's just ridiculous!" Nena said seriously. She scowled at him and continued, "If you're going to whine about the fact that people need to accept each other and how they judge you, then you shouldn't be purposefully putting yourself into situations where they're going to judge you! You can't have it both ways, you know!"
She huffed angrily, before continuing to mutter to herself, "Stupid..do that to himself?...shoot him in the freaking foot..."

He asked her, his laughter having aded away completely, now. He died his hair red down the middle because he liked the colour, had studs because he liked individuality. Individuality, though, was different to being some 'thug' as he was often referred as.

Nena's momentary anger faded at that. She could understand behaving the way she was expected to. But then, she liked the way she was expected to behave. She was expected to behave politely, and there wasn't anything bad about that. But Allen..."I--" she started to apologize, but decided against it. "...Is your hair really that white? Or is it dyed?"

Allen gave a small chuckle. ''It's really this white. The red stripe, thugh, is obviously dyed.'' He smiled. It was the first time anyone had bothered to ask; they'd all just assumed it was dyed before. No one had hair that white, apparantally.

"Oh," Nena said awkwardly. She hadn't really expected it to be real. "I dyed my hair once. Bleached it, then put in lime green streaks," she smiled faintly at the memory. It had been the only really rebellious thing she'd ever done. "During the summer before eighth grade, after my grandmother died. My parents were furious, but they didn't say anything about it. They aren't much for punishments. Besides," she added, "That was after Grandmother cut off most of my hair, anyway. So it didn't take long for it to return to its normal color."
