Ants can have a more complex means of communication than us.'' Annabeth replied, a little dissapointed Liam had released her hand. Walking forward, she fumbled with the door to the truck for a moment with cold fingers, before finally pulling it open and slipping inside. Once in the vehicle, she leaned forward and started flexing her fingers in and out.

Liam snorted then jumped in the truck, quickly starting it and cranking the heat up, "ants don't have the brain capacity to have that complex of communication, humans are very complex." He said, "you can't even deny that. We have a much wider spectrum of emotions, we know dogs can be happy, sad, angry, and even grow to love their masters. But they don't feel nearly as much as we do, they don't feel loss as long, and aren't as attached to more than one being as a human is, by the way, I thought we were talking about plants." he said with a smirk.

Ever hear of Greyfriar's Bobby? True story, that. Besides, they don't need to be attached to more than one being. They often do, but they love one person more than any other. Isn't that what people do too, though? They'll love one person more than any other, and choose to spend their whole lives with that person? Liam, the only things that seperate humans from animals are our tools. Animals evolved with ready-made tools, humans with the ability to make tools. That's it.'' Annabeth was greatful Liam had turned up the heat, even if it was making her feel a little drowsy. ''Besides, ants have a more complex- albeit different- way of communication. All their brainwaves are connected, to create one giant mass of function, working for the better for the whole group. In reality, every little ant is acting like one brain cell, seperate from every other ant. If that isn't complex and isn't an evolutionary wonder, I don't know what is.''

"But humans can function by themselves, while in general, we prefer to be around others, we can manage perfectly alone. Look at what evolotion has done, Dogs, ants, cats, they are alll the same as they were when civilization started, we have adapted, changed, and done what no other living creature has done, we adapted our environments to suit us." Liam argued. He was really enjoying himself, he didn't know how long it had been since he had and intelligent argument with anyone. For the past few years it had been arguments about who should have done what at work. He was glad for the first time that vampires had gone after this girl, otherwise he never would have met her. And for once, he was glad he was a wolf, so he got the chance to save her.

Annabeth rolled her eyes. ''They haven't changed because they haven't needed to. We, on the other hand, were born physically inferior to practically any creature our size. 'Slike I said. Mother Nature gave other animals tools; to us, she gave the ability to make them.'' She grinned, giving a small chuckle. ''Besides, you really think we're the only ones to adapt? What about all those animals we've 'introduced' into places they aren't native to? They get along just fine, why the biodiversity's as screwed up as it is.''

"That because they have no natural predators there, so nothing will attack them." Liam argued, "And once they themselves get hungry, they will eat whatever is available." He was quiet for a moment, "But sometimes, I wonder what it would be like if humans went along with the order of things, like the wolves, if we humans functioned as a pack. Our world leaders wouldn't be those who have the most, it would be those who deserve it the most, you know?"

Humans are supposedly the smartest creatures on the planet, yet we're the only species destroying it, the only ones killing our own kind in the millions, with no remorse. Liam shrugged, "I don't really think too much about killing, I mean, live for right now right? People worry too much about the future, too much about the past, to much about what COULD happen, like war for instance, that they are never really happy. So I prefer to not think about death at all."

It happened in the past, it's most likely going to happen in the future, and it is happening right now in the present. You can't just hide from all that needless death by not thinking about it.'' Annabeth replied, shaking her head and sighing. That was the problem with everyone. They assumed that needless death and killing each other meant war.

"Who says I'm hiding?" Liam asked, "Yeah it happens, and its not always anybodys fault, but what is someone like me supposed to do? Feed somebody starving in Africa when I can barely afford to feed myself? Find the cure for cancer? Last time I checked, I'm a high school drop-out, people like me don't do that. Create world peace? Sometimes, violence is necessary." he said. He knew they would be getting back soon, but didn't want to take her home yet.

"All I have to say about being a high school drop out," Liam began, "Is don't do it. Finding a job is damn near impossible, and the pay is barely enough to get by on. When you live alone its not that bad, I mean, It could be worse, but it still sucks. I highly recommend graduating." he said with a laugh. "The only reason I dropped out was because I couldn't afford to have just a part time job and having a full-time job and going to school full time left me with no sleep, so I chose having a place to live over having an education."

[[Heh, sorry. ^^" I had my tests that week and must've missed this thread when I finished them and was replying to everything. |3]] Annabeth smiled, but her mind was elsewhere. Just what kind of a life had Liam had, for him to have had to work full time and quit school because of it? Where were his parents in all that? Suddenly, she thought of how much of a spoilt brat she must have looked like to him. She had everything she'd ever wanted, and yet she still went against her parents. ''Oh... Didn't you... Didn't you have anyone to help? Mom? Dad? Brother?''

((Haha thats fine :D)) Liam snorted, "I haven't seen my dad since I was two years old. And my brother split as soon as he turned 18, much like I did. My mom was otherwise..." he trailed off, searching for a word, "preoccupied. She wasn't really much of a mom. It was my and Tyler as long as I could remember." He said with a sigh, "sometimes, I still wonder where he went, or if he ever thinks about the brother he left behind, but somehow, I doubt it. Tyler was the brains, I was always the brawn. He could probably talk a fish out of the water, and what his brains didn't get us out of, I did. He's probably graduated from some fancy university and living in a mansion on the west coast." Liam realized he was rambling and just got quiet for a moment. Yeah, he missed his brother, but his brother did the same think his dad did. He abandoned Liam, and Liam wasn't about to search him out. |

Annabeth sat quietly listening, thoughts of how hard a life Liam had had to live so far invading her mind. To think, that no one had been there for him... How someone could do something so heartless as to abandon their own flesh and blood, she'd never know. She didn't know how to respond, so when he finished, all she said was a small ''Oh.'' She remained silent after that as well, wordlessly thinking of all the things she would say if she ever met any of Liam's family. The guy probably had serious abandonment issues, with that kind of upbringing. Suddenly, she found she wanted to hug Liam and banish those memories from his mind, something she was quite shocked at herself for.

"So, you have a rich mommy and daddy, but any siblings? Anybody who actually asks you what you want from life? Or do they just tell you what you want?" Liam asked, diverting the attention from himself he hated his past, and they way it still haunted him, no matter how hard he tried to run. Besides, even if he wanted to, he couldn't hunt down his brother. If he got to know him again, wouldn't his brother quickly know his secret? Ever since he was turned into a werewolf, he had only aged slightly, and he would be like this forever. He had silently promised himself that he would never share his curse as soon as he found out what he really was. So now, he was doomed to live alone for eternity. ((I like long posts XD and giving Liam more depth than his goofy, happy=go=lucky exterior XD)) |

Of all the things she 'wanted from life', according to her parents. She wanted good grades in school, a healthy social life, to go to a fancy university, graduate with all 'A's, go on to marry some rich person that knows her father, settle down, and have a nice, big, happy family. A future she wasn't in the slightest looking forward to, but after hearing of Liam's past, who was she to complain? ''What about you now? Do you live alone, or...?'' She trailed off, hoping it wasn't too obvious what she was trying to find out. Whether or not Liam had a girlfriend.

Liam smirked, "If your asking if I'm seeing anyone, I'm not, you saw my apartment, it definitely lacks a woman's touch. Its just me." he said, "The only reason its so clean is because I'm not there enough to make a mess." he could see the town in the distance, "so, am I dropping you off at your place or do you have something else in mind?" he asked, looking over at her, "the suns not quite down yet, so if you still want to do some mindless vandalism, we have a little time left to kill." Personally, he was a little nervous at the though of going out in the night so close after a vampire attack, but he wasn't about to say so, because that would pretty much spill his secret.
