At your order, Cynder began flitting towards the center of the battlefield. Patrick smirked, not phased at all. "Tackle it, Scarface." Scarface?
The pancham began charging your fletchling, who took to the sky, nearly avoiding the charge. She cheeped loudly in its ear, disorienting it slightly. She turned to tackle it, and the pancham turned as well. The two hit each other head on, and stumbled backward. The growl had lowered its attack, and therefore done less damage to Cynder than she had done to it.
"What? Get up!" cursed Patrick. "Tackle it again!" Cynder took back to the skies.

"Um, keep dodging and use another growl! Then...then tackle it again!" Gabriel called out, unsure of himself before he cleared his throat and shook his head. "You can do it Cynder!" He beliebed it too. She seemed to be doing well so far, so maybe he had a chance after all. Maybe he should use Tailwind at some point...

He cleared his throat again and shook himself off, closing his eyes to calm himself before letting his attention focus on the pokemon. He could do this. All he had to do was focus.

Cynder seemed more sure of herself this second round. The pancham was unable to reach her as long as she stayed in the air, but she knew that running wasn't going to win a battle.
Scarface was tense and ready to jump as soon as she got in range. It was up to Cynder to make the first move. She had to be faster to make it work. She dove towards the pancham, using a growl when it was just out of reach. The pancham took a step back, losing some of its balance, but still sprang into the air, where the two pokemon collided.
Cynder was knocked into the sky, and pancham fell back to the ground, landing on its back. Cynder somehow managed to right itself again, and was poised for a perfect finishing blow.
"Get up! You good for nothing pokemon!" Patrick ordered angrily. "Don't just lay there!"

"Finish with a tackle Cynder!"

Gabriel's gaze focused onto his new partner, a smile slowly tugging at his lips as he looked on with a bit of renewed confidence. He was...he was winning! He could really do this! He couldn't hold back his excitement as he stood up straighter than before, positively beaming at the little firebird.

Cynder dove, striking the pancham and knocking it out instantly.
"Damn it!" Patrick cursed, recalling his pokemon. He glared at you and stalked away, and you knew that this would not be the last time you would meet.
"You did it!" squealed Megan behind you, running up and giving you a huge hug. Your parents were behind you congratulating you as well. The banquet was almost over.
"So, son, what do you plan on doing tomorrow? I am assuming you will be leaving..." Your father swallowed hard and looked down. The rest of the student body was patting you on the back as they walked past, murmuring words of congratulations as they did.

Gabriel's heart leapt into his chest as he held out his arms to let his little firebird y over, hugging her with a grin. "I'm so proud of you Cynder!" he cried happily, then looked back at his parents and Megan with a nod. "I...I am planning to set out tomorrow, yes."

He linked down at Cynder and gently stroked her feathers before nodding, grinning at his father. "Don't worry though Dad! I'll have Cynder with me. We'll be fine!" He moved to give his father a hug as well, lingering a moment. "I'll be sure to make you proud along my journey, and I'll keep in touch! I'll tell you about what happens on my journey and what new Pokemon friends I may make!"

For the first time in a long time, Gabriel felt confident, like he really could do this. He could be strong, grow with Cynder and be the best he can possibly be.

((Speed for now please uvu))

It was time to go.

Gabriel exhaled softly, then smiled over at his new Pokemon, who he was already amazingly attached to. "Are you ready?" he asked softly, smiling at the reply chirp.

Then he looked at his suitcase, flushing lightly as he recalled packing earlier. All he really owned were slacks, sweatervests, and button-up shirts, minus a couple oversized sweaters and a couple pairs of sweatpants that he packed in case he got cold...which he did often. He sighed softly, then reached out to stroke Cynder's feathers, enjoying how warm she was. It was soothing.

Then he exhaled again and pulled out his pokedex to look at it a while, several emotions bubbling up. He was a Pokemon Trainer...and he was going on a journey.

Then he looked at his desk and pulled out a notebook, a sketch book, and several pencils. He needed something to pass time after all.

And then he moved to lift Cynder into his arms and turned to leave, exhaling again. He smiled at his parent's, murmuring temporary farewells and promises to write often. And he would, as often as he could.

And then he was off, turning to start off on his journey on route 4, leaving Lumiose City to lead a new life of adventure.

The gates to the route loom above you as you pass under them. A lady at the counter smiles at you, while a police officer and growlithe eye you sternly. But there are no problems leaving the city, and soon, you are back out in the rain.
It's coming down steadily, but without thunder. The warm spring weather was dampened by the downpour, but not chilled. It was a warm rain, soft and comforting.
Before you are two paths. One of them leads south, to Santalune, through the flower garden grove. The other path, you have no idea where it goes. It appears to veer to the east, disappearing into the forest.
There is a gardener in front of you, planting flowers and whistling to himself, while a roselia plays a grasswhistle tune.
What do you do?

Gabriel exhales heavily before he looks down at Cynder, who he was holding in his arms to try to kind of shield her from the rain. "Which way should we go?" he asked gently, glancing up at the split paths. "Should we go I to the forest?"

Cynder chirped in response and Gabriel nodded, turning to start down the path towards the forest. "The forest it is then," he said gently, smiling at his feathery little companion.

((That's up to you! You will meet many characters along your journey who you could love or hate. You will have the opportunity to ask a lot of them to travel with you, and it's a dangerous world; there is safety in numbers!))

The forest path is dim, made even more so by the lack of sunlight. The only good thing about the insane amount of trees above you is they do a pretty good job of keeping the rain off of you. Occasionally a much larger drop will drip from the tree leaves, hitting you or Cynder, who each time lets out an indignant and startled little "Chi!"
It is very quiet, almost calming. You assume that most of the pokemon have decided to run and hide, disliking the rain. But some pokemon thrive in the dim, creepy, rainy forests such as this. Pokemon like...
"Viiiiiine," you hear from your left, along with a significant amount of shuffling. You see a few tendrils stick out from behind a tree trunk. "Carnivine..." the voice hisses again, and it pulls its body out from behind the tree.
Smaller than normal, but vicious as ever. Carnivine love eating lone travelers whole, and this one looks to be no exception. ((Capture rating: impossible))

Gabriel let out a soft squeak and stumbled back, looking down at Cynder then up at the Carnivine. He wasn't sure how much of a chance they had since Cynder didn't have any fire moves yet. He backed up, glanced down at his little firebird, then turned to run off out of the forest to try his luck heading to the city instead.

"We can come back once you learn fire moves, but right now we need to avoid getting into battles we may have no chance at winning."

((Assuming this is okay aha))

((That was perfect lol, kind of what you had to do. The forest at that low of a level or without a partner is too dangerous ^^ THE GM STRIKES AGAIN))

The path to the city was much nicer, and even in the pouring rain it seemed more peaceful. The diligent gardener worked at a leisurely pace, even in the rain. It took you a moment to see that the water seemed to stop right above his head and flow on either side of him, like an umbrella. Only then did you notice the Ralts on his right, maintaining the psychic umbrella.
As you walk by the flower beds, you see that some of the flowers are moving. When you look closer, you can see hundreds of Flabebe floating between the flowers, pollenating them in preparation for the summer growth spurt. They are low level, and would be easy to catch. ((capture rating: 2/10))
A few combee as well are flitting between the flowers. They appear to be just as low leveled. ((capture rating: 2/10))
As you walk, seeing the wild pokemon, you hear a mewling to your left. Barely visible, between a few roses, you see a tiny skitty. ((capture rating: 4/10)) ((WARNING might try to run))

((there are many ways to acquire pokemon, with the most obvious being battling until their hp is low enough and throwing a ball. Other ways include befriending them, feeding them, being gifted, unwelcome followers, ect. Any way you can think of goes!))

The mewling caught Gabriel's attention immediately. He turned to look at the Skitty and smiled, opening his arms to let his little furebird hop down. "Hey there little Skitty," he said gently, ignoring the rain and kneeling down slightly, offering out his hand. "I won't hurt you, I promise. Want to get out of this rain for a while?"

Then he blinked and turned to start digging through his pack, looking to see if he could find any food of any kind. Hopefully the kind approach would work and he wouldn't need to be rough. Plus the little thing was so tint and the rain was cold, so even if the little thing didn't come with him he could protect it from the rain.

The little skitty took a step or two out of the flowers, but was hit in the nose with a raindrop. "Ki!" it cried, shocked, and backed back up into the leaves, where there was at least SOME shelter.
"Chi?" cooed Cynder at the little thing, and the pokemon seemed to have a conversation, with the fletchling attempting to be a role model ignoring the rain.
"Ki..." and the skitty took another few apprehensive steps out of the flowers, eying you more curious than suspicious.

Gabriel paused for a few moments before he got an idea and pulled out one of his sweatshirts, holding it up so he could block the rain. "Here, I can cover you with this," he said gently, smiling gently at the little skitty. "I can use it to keep you warm and dry you off too, if you don't mind the smell of freshly washed laundry."

He looked over at Cynder to see if she could show how he was blocking the rain.

Cynder hopped over to you, getting under the sweatshirt and immediately relaxing. The skitty followed suit, creeping under the sweatshirt and smiling broadly. "Skitty!" it mewled happily.
As it crawled out of the roses all the way, you notice that its back leg is grossly infected, and that it is avoiding putting nearly any pressure at all on it. An infection like that most likely means that the skitty is sickly, and being out in the pouring rain sure isn't helping.

Gabriel's eyes widened at the infection and he gently, carefully, lowered the sweatshirt to wrap up the skitty in the warm fabric to shield it from the rain. "Don't worry, little Skitty. I'll get you to a Pokemon Center so they can help your leg," he said gently, glancing at Cynder.

He packed up everything and gently cradled the little Skitty close and turned to run off towards the city. "I'll make sure you get better. You'll be okay." This poor thing needed care immediately, care he was far from qualified for.

It takes you just over an hour to reach Santalune city, and the first thing you notice are the guards at the gate. You can't remember the last time you have seen guards by the city gates... and in your mind you remember the guard and the growlithe at the gate of Lumiose. It had been a few months since leaving the big city, yet much had changed.
As you try to enter the city, they approach you blocking your path. "What business do you have here?" Business? People aren't just allowed to enter and leave as they please anymore?
