July 20, 2009 - Intellect Glitch

This is a short notice to let you all know that we have fixed the intellect glitch. You cannot gain intellect any longer by reading the same books over.

Unfortunately, the only way to fix this bug was to reset each pets intellect to what it began at. We are sorry to those of you who no longer have the books they had read in the past, but this was the only viable solution.

In the future intellect will have a greater role in the game, specifically with the new battle system. Because of this, it is important that we fixed this bug.

You will notice now that books have a 5% chance of being destroyed each time you have a pet read it. The reason for this is to deter users from lending out books. It will make them more valuable for users who own them, since now there is risk when using them.

By doing this intellect gains a whole new level of importance. It won't be as easy any more to gain intellect for your pets. It will be challenging, and thus, more rewarding for you.

As usual, sometimes what we do seems to make the game harder for you. But it will make a more rewarding experience for everyone.

So why buy rare books anymore if the fact is that they have a chance of breaking? What about people who do read them? And what on earth is wrong with lending a good book to a friend?
Omniscia - July 22, 2009
Alip: The fact that the book might break is in the description when you click a book in your inventory, now.
Trigun - July 21, 2009
Just had to make the offhanded comment that the culmination of doom or lack thereof on part of the player base is irrelevant because the player base is powerless. :>
Jzbelle - July 21, 2009
Again...thank you for this, Patrick. :] A lot of folks feel that the site is finally going to be more challenging and fun, and this was the first step in that direction. Of course you can't make everyone happy, but it'll all die down. People threatened doom itself when the Tesuri was re-vamped...when the Morphing Potions were retired...when the Kioka and Omni retired...it just didn't happen. This too shall pass, people will either adjust or leave. I'm sure more will join as new features are added. Keep it up!

it is very unfair what if someone had the rarest book in rescreatu an the didn't read this up date they would/could lose it
Geonightrose - July 21, 2009
Its still a hasty and rash decision. The books were part of the lure for me to be here in Rescreatu. They didn't vanish when you read them. They had something in them to actually read. Now you're not putting anything in the books and they're vanishing at random. I do not like. I will repeat this until I'm blue in the face. This sucks. I hate it. I'm a book lover and I take care of my books. Now I can't read rare books, one of the two types of items I'm really interested in collecting. Sucks. Bites. Sinks my interest in Rescreatu even further. I don't care about battles later because there's no reason to battle unless you get something out of it than useless wins. BOOOO to this decision.
Patrick - July 21, 2009
It will most likely effect which weapons you can use and what abilities your pet can obtain.
Omniscia - July 21, 2009
Um... I only read two books to Hydraca. Why is her intellect 4? o_O - Well, I wasn't reading much to my pets because I wasn't sure which one's they've already read. At least now I don't have to worry about that for awhile, though I probably won't be reading to them as much... I /am/ curious as to what affect INT will have in battles.
ColdCaptivated - July 21, 2009
How about at least getting one read out of it?? So, not cool...
ColdCaptivated - July 21, 2009
Full Heart Recipe Card It seems that your book has worn out... That was the first time I looked at the card ! O__O NOT COOL!!!!
eenobegeeto - July 21, 2009
You know, a lot of things went through my mind when I read this...but I realize anything I say will fall on deaf ears. Thanks for making this game more 'rewarding'. I feel so rewarded that I think I'll go clean the attic.
April - July 21, 2009
I shudder to think of the hours I've wasted over the past 2 years reading books to my pets.
Masked - July 21, 2009
Hm. I've never felt the urge to stat up my pets, but this seems like a nice change all the same. Unless you're reading your pets books like Cooking With Fire. Yikes.
NINE - July 21, 2009
This is good. Even though, my pets will be forever stupid. xD I don't read books to them, but this is good for those who do.
Yaizhbeen - July 21, 2009
I like that the intelligence glitch is fixed :). I also like that the books don't disappear when read once. I mean it is logical, that food items are one use, but books? 5% is reasonable in my opinion :). I have a few questions however: will there be a way to see which books had been read by my pets already? If not, please assure me that the book won't disappear when I reread it for my pet because I forgot that they read that one already. Also, will there be a way to read the stories in the books without reading them to the pets and risking to lose the book? I really enjoy some of the stories and like to reread them sometimes, and I am sure the writers would appreciate it too if all users could read their work freely if they feel like it. Thanks for every answers that might come :).
Mendini - July 21, 2009
Oh dang a risk losing our books.... Thats going to suck with cookbooks and premium books.
Trigun - July 21, 2009
*Forced given the condition that one wants to use books for their originally intended purpose.
Gunmetal - July 20, 2009
Force? Where does it say anyone is forced?
Trigun - July 20, 2009
Lol. Lol at resetting pets' intelligence and forcing everyone to risk losing their super-rare books by having to re-read them to all of their pets. Loolll.
MiaViper - July 20, 2009
Ok then... and what important purpuse does inteligence have now?
1ran - July 20, 2009
Good thinking.
piemaster - July 20, 2009
Maybe there should be varying percentages for different books =/
BritneySpearsFan - July 20, 2009
Hmm.. i dunno what to think./ i guess it ok :/
Soulyter - July 20, 2009
Whoa, dang. I don't like this, but I like it a lot more than I thought I would. Very clever update, if you ask me.
BlueBunny - July 20, 2009
I enjoy this update, thank you Pat. ^^
Lilith - July 20, 2009
I don't believe percentages of things happening in this game are accurate...that was pretty much proven when genders were switched and all of a sudden everyone is hatching males. I guess my pets will just be reading the el cheapo books.
felineLOVER - July 20, 2009
Erm... O.O Yay?
LadyTsunade - July 20, 2009
Very clever... ^o~
Shadwolf - July 20, 2009
Well said but I do agree with Geo. If we buy premium books and they just destroy I would be mad. But still I'm happy you fixed the glitch. :D
Riyo - July 20, 2009
Ooh. I wonder what intellect will be used for. Just battling or something else? ;o
Jzbelle - July 20, 2009
Eeeeee! This is better than Birthday Cake ice cream! Thank you, thank you. WONDERFUL update, so happy that I checked Res before bedtime now. GREAT step forward. Oooh...now I must choose *which* pet to read to, as the books may disappear...I love it. :D Great job!
Geonightrose - July 20, 2009
Not good for books we buy premium for. Not good at all. DO NOT LIKE. Shop books, fine, but not this. Not when some people pay real money for items. That bites. Have you fixed reading in the library yet?
psychosilver288 - July 20, 2009
Hmmm.... Not bad. Thanks. I hope the inventory won't go killer on me though. ;D
Rero - July 20, 2009
Ooooh! Interesting idea! I like it. I like that for the most part, books arent destroyed/gone once they are read because that's just annoying, I'm sorry. But I like that there is a risk. I also like that they are important to battling and such. Good idea :]
