"What are your parents like?" I swallowed, my grip on the steering wheel tightening. A small lump came in my throat and I swallowed once more. "My parents... Are deceased."
I said with a clenched jaw before giving a small smile. "But that was a long time ago."
With a shrug, I came to the street that Summer's home was at.
"Let me know when to stop."
I said, slowing down the car.

Summer said nothing, but a sad ex
pression formed on her face when he mentioned his parents being deceased. She hadn't exactly expected that. The reason she didn't say 'I'm sorry' was that some people got annoyed and some people though it was a waste to say it so she simply said nothing, rather she regretted what she had asked.
Seconds later, she looked to her left and said, "Ok, stop. Here it is - that brown-ish house right there." Summer gripped her backpack, ready to exit the car and go into the house. Somehow she was slightly looking forward to tomorrow, and she also wondered what it would have in store for her.

I stopped the car once I got to that 'brown-ish' house she spoke of. "Here we are." I said with a smile before looking back at her. This was stupid. I shouldn't even be thinking about asking this next question. Especially with me nagging at Jake for doing almost the exact same thing... "Seeing as you walk to school usually, do you need a ride tomorrow?" (I'm going to pretend he knows that she walks to school, since I can't remember if she told him or not -_- ) I was so going to hear Jake's mouth tomorrow.

Summer nodded in reply.
"It would be great to have a ride."
She shut the door as she exited and waved good-bye to Lance as she entered her home. She went up the stairs and into her bedroom where she deposited the contents of her backpack and proceeded to finish her homework. But not before taking a single glance out the window, just to see if Lance was still there.
(Maybe time-skip to the next school day?)

Jake didn't come back until later on that night, with a anxious sibling on the sofa waiting for him. The second he walked through the door, we had a good long - loud - argument. To the point where neighbor's by our apartment were telling us to keep it down. Finally, though, we both cooled off. But I haven't talked to him since. Now I sat in first period, still shaking my head about the conversation. I had warned him about school, about if any one gets suspicious that we had to leave. And now he was asking for it, by getting to close with some girl he won't know in 100 years. I sighed, before leaning back in the chair. Waiting for Science class to start. Maybe I shouldn't have been so hard on Jake. Seeing as I offered Summer a ride home from school today.

Summer gathered her things from her locker and stepped through the door to Science class. She saw Lance, yet not the unfinished lab. Oh well, it's alright. It wasn't that interesting of a a lab anyway.
Her thoughts drifted to what exactly they'd be doing today, then. She sat down next to Lancelot and said,
"Hi. How's your day going so far?"
Then she remembered something - she had to return a library book today, and it was already overdue. Why wasn't that written down somewhere?
Seeing her blue ballpoint pen sitting right in front of her, Summer grabbed it and started to write down a note on her hand while waiting for Lance's response.

I was just about to respond to Summer, after she interrupted my thoughts, when I saw her grab a pen and start writing on her hand. "You shouldn't make a habit of writing home work on your hand." I said, though quickly wished I hadn't. The way to blend in at this school, wasn't to boss people around and tell them when they do foolish things. With a clearing of my throat, I added, "Actually, today so far has been lovely. And yours?"

Summer finished quickly and looked up at Lance. She opened her mouth to say something defensive, but instead said,
"I forget things so I write them down. I know I should stop writing on my hand. But I don't. I guess I sort of forget to stop." She put on a small smile to show she was alright, but inside she was a bit hurt. Writing on her hand was just... her. It was her way, and Lance apparently didn't like that.
"Anyways, my day's fine. I'm just... y'know... thinking. About life."
And there she goes. Summer saying her regular answer to 'how are you' or 'how's your day'. A 'fine' and sometimes adding thinking. However she did do a lot of thinking, so nothing was a lie. And her day really was fine. Not special in any way, not bad, just... fine.

I had passed by Jake a couple times in the hallway inbetween my next classes, but he refused to meet my eyes. If he was too ruin this for the both of us, I wouldn't be trying this school idea again in our next town. At least I wasn't getting to close with any one. Now, it was lunch. I wasn't that hungry from when I had eaten a couple days ago. Or, better to say, I was safe enough to be around. I sat at the table I had sat at yesterday.

(Awh, I understand. Sometimes I procrastinate about posting too. c: )
Summer had gotten her lunch and sat down across from Lance once again. She wanted to say 'hi' but felt as if she was saying that too much recently, so she just started eating. After she ate her PBJ she didn't have anything left, so she decided to start up some sort of conversation, however found it hard to do so.
What could she say? Summer could ask how school was going for him. She could ask what his favorite color was, or what his favorite food was. A lot of things could be asked but a lot of things weren't very.... interesting. As she pondered the option of shutting up and staring at a wall, Summer noticed a black and white cat walk across the school's lawn just outside the window.
"Lance, look! It's a cat!"
Darn her insticts to point out cute fuzzy animals.
