As Summer exited the lunch line, she couldn't help but feel as if lunchtime hated her.  She was usually always last in line because she was the one who pushed in the chairs for everybody.  They didn't know about it, every kid zooms out the door when the bell rings for lunch, and they of course leave their chairs not pushed in.  Before, Summer paid no heed, though she always caught the teacher's disapproving look and sigh.  Ever since, she had made a routine of pushing in the chairs and recieving a 'thank-you' from the teacher every time.
Glancing around, she thought of another reason.  Summer never had anybody to sit by.  She would sit next to complete strangers and quietly eat her lunch, paying attention only to herself.  Somehow she was surprised that no other person ever noticed her silence.  Locating the only spots left - a whole table empty, probably a leftover - Summer began to go over with her tray, but an uneasiness swept over her as she soon realized it wasn't empty.
Lancelot was there.
Well, it'd be ok to sit next to him, right?  We know each other..
But still.  It'd be a bit awkward.
I've got no choice.  There's no other spot in this whole cafeteria.
... Not like any spot would make me feel better about everything.
Summer made a quick motion of walking over and sitting down across from Lancelot.
"Hi," she greeted softly.

I found myself watching Jake once in a while, just in case he wasn't doing anything stupid, as I sat by myself in silence. I wasn't the type to really feel awkward about it, rather, I enjoyed it. Watching the humans was quite enjoyable, seeing as they always acted foolish.
Just as I was about to find a quieter place to stay, maybe finish the home work that was already given to me, Summer, the girl from my Science class, came up.
I smiled politely, before adding,
"Hello Summer."
I said as I leaned on the table with my forearms.
"How are things?"

Things?  Let's see, um... things...
Why can I not think of anything smart to say around this guy?  It's a simple 'how are you'...
"Fine," she answered, taking a bite of her sandwich.  She wasn't very hungry anymore, somehow.  Summer casually looked out of the large window in the cafeteria, then back at Lance.
"How's the school?  Made any friends?"
Gosh, it sounds like I'm a boring adult.

"Fine,"
Ah, the typical answer. No matter how nice I tried to be around here, I sure was relieved to see that Summer wasn't the type to pour out her feelings to random guys.
And, though it sounds unbelievable, there have been times when I was that unfortunate random guy.
My thoughts were interrupted by Summer's question.
"Ah, no. I'm not the best at meeting new friends."
I said with a small shrug to show I was more then fine with it.
"What about you? Why aren't you sitting by any of the other students? I wouldn't want to keep you from them."

Summer's answer was simple and unemotional.  Any more emotional and she'd burst out into tears.  "I'm not sitting by them because... It's a long story.  You probably don't want to hear it."
Then she smiled.  "I'm pretty sure you'd be quick to make friends, though, Lancelot."
Wait, wasn't she his friend?  Hadn't he made her his friend?  Or was it just a partnership school thing?  Neh, either way, it didn't really matter.  Did it?
At this point, Summer shut down her questions.  She just needed to stay calm and not think about the friendship thing.  Nobody cares about friends.  Friends aren't necessary.  However... if one had a friend... it isn't too bad...
"Uh, aren't you hungry?  Why don't you eat anything?" she asked him.

Though she didn't pour out her feelings much, she did seem to ramble some. I smirked at her, as she seemed to have a tug - of - war sort of thoughts in her head.
"No, I'm not hungry."
I said with a shrug, which was true. I had eaten last night to help keep myself controlled during my first day here.
"Actually, Summer..."
I said, leaning my forearms across the table and looking straight into her eyes to know I wasn't kidding.
"I'd love to hear that story of yours."

For a second, Summer had her mouth open slightly just staring into his eyes.  They were quite pretty, actually.  Almost... entrancing.
"Um, well, I..
Ok.
It was last year.  Towards the end of the year.  I had a best friend.  Life was great.  Up until when we got in a fight... Lately she'd been ignoring me, so I confronted her about it.  It turned into something big and in the end, and I ended up hating her and she me.  She thought I was some wack-o who lost her marbles and doesn't know what she's talking about, but aparrently she wasn't on Earth because even the most stupid person on Earth could notice that she didn't want to be my friend anymore."
Summer continued, "So, she started telling everyone in school my every secret that I had actually told her during the time we were friends - what a traitor.  I hate her so much.  And I know hate's a strong word, but I mean it when I say I hate her.  Guess what?  She also started making up stuff.  Every kid in school was teasing me."
Taking a breath, she was surprised she hadn't cried.  Maybe it was because there were lots of people around her - Summer liked it when she could cry in peace, not around huge crowds that could all point it out.  There used to be people to comfort her, but not anymore.
"Over the summer it died down.  But I still hate her... and everyone else at school doesn't be mean to me, they just act like I'm invisible, or unworthy of being noticed or something."
Maybe I said too much, she then thought once she had finished.
I barely know this guy.  I know he's pretty nice and all, but I just told him... everything.
Oh whatever.  He would've found out sooner or later.
Or not.
Or maybe we would never have ever spoken of it and pretended it was never there.
I would've been fine with either of these.
Right?
Of course.
Wait.
Wait, no, yes, I would be fine.
It's fine.

[[RESATEMYPOSTOMG.
I posted on this. I know I did. :u Sorry. D: ]]

As Summer spoke, I kept my eyes only on her to show she had my full attention. It seemed like she had to let it out anyways, so might as well do it to a guy that would actually listen.
"Hate is a very bold word to use, Summer."
I started, leaning back in the chair but letting a soft smile lift my lips.
"Wouldn't you rather forgive her, so that all that bitterness and burdens are off of your shoulders? So you can go on with your life while the others can stay trapped in their own wrongs?"
I knew I sounded like a hallmark card or something, so I tried dying it down and adding with a shrug,
"That's just what I would do."

(Ah, no need for apologies.  Res was just being a meaner. ;o )

Summer couldn't help but let a small grin creep on her face.
"You sound quite wise, you know that?" she said.
I have to admit, his accent adds to it, too.  It's sort of cute...
"But it's hard to forgive.  Really, really hard.  'Forgive and forget' was never really my thing.  Except maybe the 'forget' part... I forget a lot of things."  She didn't mention her left hand, which had a few words and notes scribbled onto it with various types of markers and pens, nor her agenda, though.
Anyways, she didn't even know where her locker was and didn't have any classes with her.  She didn't see her much at all.  And what was she supposed to say?  'You put me through a bunch of crap and I'll forgive you'?  Summer didn't really want to go back to being her friend.  She was - excuse me, is - like a professional backstabber.  And nothing's going to get better even if she did forgive her.  The girl would just feel like she won, like Summer crumbled beneath her power.  Which she sort of did, in a way.  The point was it'd only give her a satisfaction that Summer didn't want to give her.
"However... I guess I could try to forgive her.  But I'm not telling her up-front," she said.

That's not a surprise.
I thought to myself, at her first comment about me. Of course, I was wise. I'm over 300 years old. I lived through the medieval times, all the way to the Victorian Era, to the modern day. I was the best at History today, because I lived through every event we spoke of. I've had love, and lost it, and I've made more then a lifetime of mistakes.
Yeah. I was wise.
I smiled as the human explained how she wouldn't tell the student up - front about the forgiveness.
"That doesn't matter. She'll see your forgiveness at the way you treat her, if you ever cross paths again."
I shrugged once more, acting as though it was a simple thing to forgive something so big.

Summer sighed.  She didn't really find anything else to say on that depressing topic.  However, looking up at the clock, she noticed lunch was nearly over and most of the kids were getting ready to leave.
"See you, Lance," she said as the girl got up and threw away the majority of her lunch and started off towards her next class, which she was guessing was History...

(Ahhhh.  Bit of a fail. D: )

[[Bahahahaha! :D ]]

"I'm telling you, you're making a big deal about nothing - as usual."
Jake whined with a frown. He was stupid enough to come to me to tell me he was going to go out with that brunette. To where? I had no desire to know, with someone like Jake.
"Our first day here, and I've got a date. You're just jealous."
It took everything in me to hold my tongue. Maybe say a little something about Summer - a tiny little lie - just to make Jake shut up. But, I couldn't put Summer in the middle of this, and if she ever found out, I'd be humiliated. And because it wasn't in my nature to do such.
"You're saying, that if she finds out, she'll just be able to shut her mouth about it? You do realize people don't work that way..."
As I ranted on, Jake rolled his eyes, and turned his back toward me, walking toward the girl by her car.
"...Hey, I wasn't done!"
I shouted, though put a smile on my face for people passing by for them not to worry, and that a fight wasn't going to break out. I rolled my eyes and got into my car, keeping the car idle until Jake and the girl left the parking lot.

Summer looked around and sighed.  Her mom was working late today, so she'd have to walk home, and her dad was one of those travelling workers going all around the world.  So all she had to go home was legs, and she had already ran to school this morning and she just basically didn't want to walk back home.
Then she saw Lance and began to go over.
Summer knocked on the closed window and mouthed, 'Can you take me home?'  It was a long shot that he'd actually say yes, but it was better than walking.

Just as Jake and the girl disappeared out of the parking lot, I heart my window tapped. I looked to see Summer.
Needing a ride?
Boy, was I going to be a hypocrite by doing this. But, it wasn't like I was flirting with the human. Or, taking her on a date.
Just taking her home. It was getting a bit chilly lately, anyways and I wouldn't want her to get sick.
I smiled at her, and gestured to come to the passenger side to get in.

[[Ahh. Fail. ]]

Summer's attempt was successful.  She went over to the other side and got in.  Being in a foreign car, somehow, reminded her of all those lessons of stranger danger.  Buckling her seat belt, she said, "If you turn left as you exit the school's parking lot and keep going you'll eventually reach 73rd street.  Turn onto that and then my house'll be down there."
It felt weird, too, being in this car.  With Lance.  But Summer shook it off.  Everything was going to be fine - it was just a ride home.
"Oh, and um, thanks.  You know, beforehand.  For doing this."

I put the key in the ignition and started it just as Summer came in. With a smile and a small shrug, I said,
"It's not a problem at all, Summer."
Pulling out of the parking lot, I followed her directions.
"Do you always have to walk home?"
I finally asked, to break the silence.

"Usually I do... my mom takes lots of late hours so she can't make it in time to take me home.  But she usually can drive me to school, but this morning she took extra hours at work, too," Summer explained.  "I don't mind walking home most of the time, but I already ran to school this morning.  Plus my dad works all around the world so he can't take me home."
She didn't really enjoy the awkward silence that hung in the air.
"What are your parents like?"
