((That is interesting.... Maybe I'll look into it.))

Zavi would've given anything to wipe that smug look off Krael's face.

"I can see that, I mean, if those big pointy chunks of rock you can see above the trees aren't mountains, then what are they? I just want you to bring us up the fastest way," Zavi retorted.

The black wolf had taken the lead, but he'd ticked Zavi off enough that she wouldn't even stand for that. She put on a short burst of speed, and came up beside him, stretching her body out over the land in flying leaps. She began to speed up, if Duna was chasing her, she was getting out of here, and if the loner couldn't keep up, so be it.

Zavi pulled slightly ahead of Krael, urging him forward silently. The land turned steadily more rugged as the two wolves made their way over the land. Soon Zavi's worries were left behind in the thrill of the chase. She reveled in the strength her muscles held, each time leaping a bit further ahead.

"C'mon!" Zavi found herself calling to Krael, all hostility forgotten. They might be on the run, but that didn't mean they couldn't play while they were at it. Zavi's true personality was beginning to show as she left her old life behind.

Krael grinned as he saw Zavi pull forward. Perhaps she wasn't as tired as she looked after all.

A sudden rush of adrenaline fuelling his once tired muscles, he burst forward, determined not to let Zavi win the race that they had started by some unspoken mutual consent. Krael's paws pounded the snow-blanketed ground as he ran, each one crunching noisily (yet briefly) as they compressed the snow underfoot. With some effort, Krael caught up with Zavi.

Two wolves, a streak of jet black and a blur of white, practically flying through the forest. Looking at them, you probably wouldn't guess that they were on the run from a hunting party. If anything, they looked more like a pair of overgrown, playing pups.

((Hehe, it's perfectly fine.))

"That's more like it," Zavi yelped as Krael caught up to her. She slowed her paws suddenly, skidding on the hard-packed snow. She laughed as pieces of snow and ice from her paws pelted the black wolf. But it was Zavi's turn to be humiliated, when she set her paws down, they slipped and she fell, face-first into a snow bank.

As she yanked her head out, Zavi couldn't help but think how silly she must look. Cold seeped down through her fur, and she realized her face was covered in snow. She shook herself quickly, managing to dislodge most of the ice crystals. She was panting, and her muscles still ached, but somehow all that seemed... less. Zavi felt like she'd been freed of a burden she'd been struggling under for ages. At least she wasn't alone.

Zavi slid into a crouch, slinking through the snow towards Krael. As she got closer, she tensed, preparing to leap. But at the last second, she lost her grip on the snowy ground, and slipped, again. She leaped at the exact same time though, and ended up splayed on her back, the breath driven out of her. She didn't care though, she was just trying to manage her urge to laugh, and her need to breathe at the same time. That combination was not the greatest trick to attempt in cold air either.

Krael gave a low growl of annoyance as he was pelted with chips of ice and pieces of snow. However, his ex
pression quickly returned to a smirk as he watched Zavi slip and fall.

He thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye, so he turned his head to look. Seeing there was nothing, he turned back around only to find that he had lost sight of Zavi, whose white fur camouflaged her in the snow. Desperately casting his silver eyes about to find her, Krael whipped his head around at a sudden noise; a muffled thud. There lay Zavi, paws in the air, gasping for breath. Panic gripped him momentarily, and he wondered what had happened to her. Had something attacked her and left her laying sprawled on the ground? Was she hurt? No, wait. She was laughing.

Krael felt relief wash over him, as well as self-directed anger at caring so much about this stranger. Pushing such feelings aside- at least for a moment- Krael let his tail wag slowly back and forth. He stuck his back end way up in the air while his front half was low the ground as he wordlessly and playfully challenged he other wolf. "Come get me" he seemed to say, his tail now whipping back and forth furiously.

He truly felt like a pup again for the first time in a very long while.

Zavi glared playfully at him, but seemed to come to her senses. They had wasted time playing, and she had noticed a look of worry flash across the loner's face as he turned his head to scan the horizon. Whether or not there was actually something there, Zavi wasn't sure, but she wasn't about to stick around to find out.

Still, Zavi was determined to get back at him, although he hadn't really done anything more than smirk at her. Whenever he did that, she was torn between laughter, for the look didn't go well with his young face, and the urge to swipe at him. Feining indifference, the white wolf pretended to ignore Krael, but walked past him. As she did so, Zavi flicked her tail into his face, momentarily clouding his vision with fur-at least she hoped-and whipped around quickly. After that, Zavi leaped at him, knocking him off his paws.

"Bet you didn't see that one coming," Zavi growled as she pinned his down lightly.

Krael watched in disappointment as Zavi began to simply walk away. He quickly stood up, ready to pretend that none of it had even happened. He had been acting rather ridiculously, after all. Krael trotted silently behind the other wolf, wondering why she had stopped playing so suddenly. Just then, his thoughts were interrupted as he was smacked in the face with something simultaneously fluffy and whip-like.

Krael sneezed indignantly, snapping at the empty air with sharp teeth as he was knocked to the ground. He squirmed wildly under the assailant's weight.

What just happened? He thought, as he slowly realized that he had just allowed himself to be pinned to the ground by a female.

Frustrated now, he pushed Zavi off with one powerful kick of his hind legs. It bothered Krael that, had Zavi meant him harm, he would likely be dead by now. He hated that he had let his guard down like that. In his mind, he had just been bested and he did not like that one bit.

His typical, moody personality returning, Krael stood up and shook himself off. "We should get moving; we're only wasting time here."

Zavi looked at Krael, trying to keep her face straight. Then she remembered her own false life that she'd been leading only days before. Once we make it to the mountains, what will Krael do? Zavi wondered. She barely knew the loner, but already she felt protective of him. Yet he'd lived his life alone, as far as she knew, and Zavi figured that it would be safer to bite a hibernating bear than to ask how Krael had come to be on his own.

"Whatever Captain Sunshine," Zavi muttered. "Are you always so boring?" she asked boldly, turning her head away to show she wasn't going to back down if he challenged her for her insult. Then again, she hadn't had anyone to play around with in her pack, Duna had made sure of that. Duna. The thought of her sister made Zavi want to shred something, but there weren't any leaves up here, and she didn't think Krael would take too kindly to her if she attacked his ears.

Three years of bitterness began to well up inside Zavi. She fought panic as well as she tried to control her emotions. But right now the urge to turn around and run right into Duna, to fight her, was so strong, Zavi actually growled out loud. Let her feel what it was like to be the one that was hunted for once.

"Boring, you say?" Krael's voice was suddenly very soft and seemingly calm. Even as he spoke, though, he felt his hackles raise slightly. Despite his intense desire to bite Zavi or at least mouth off to her a little, Krael chose to continue stalking towards the mountains. It was then, though, that he heard her growl. Was it directed towards him? Of course it was- there was no one else there for her to growl at. Krael couldn't believe it. That obnoxious little jerk actually had the nerve to growl at him. He whirled around to face her, teeth bared in a deadly grin.

"If I am so very boring, then I won't subject you to the prospect of spending any more time with me." he said, still speaking in a frighteningly calm tone.

With that, Krael altered his course so he was no longer going directly towards the mountains, but rather towards a long, winding path that he knew would take him to the same place if he followed it long enough.

"Let's see you navigate the mountains without a guide." He sneered contemptuously.

"Oh I wouldn't worry about that," Zavi snarled softly after the retreating back of the loner. She hadn't meant to direct the growl at him, but he was so full of himself that his over-sized head probably couldn't take it. The white wolf wheeled around, and began to retrace their trail. Any friendly thoughts toward Krael had dissolved in a heartbeat-and Zavi wasn't bothered at all. In fact she felt glad to be rid of the loner.

Her anger still boiling inside of her, Zavi struck up the courage and called after him: "oh fine, that's right, go save your own back, all you ever do is listen, you don't look do you?!"

Zav's rage fueled her steps as she turned on her heel and bolted back along the path. Even if she died trying, she would get her revenge on Duna. Maybe then, the loner would open his eyes to the world. No, Zavi would let him be, he could do whatever he wanted. He was, after all, a loner. Nothing more than an outcast.
