"Cute." Arashi smiled, nodding to acknowledge the canid Pokemon. The rustling of the unidentified Pokemon was drawing nearer, and Arashi could see occasional glimpses of its furry ears - which appeared to be pink. Sure enough, it was a little pink and cream feline nosing its way closer, followed closely by its bobbing tail. A Skitty, eagerly munching away at the berries, and apparently thus far unaware of the humans nearby.

Gabriel immediately moved his hand to pet Nyte, to keep her calm as the Skitty stepped out. He gave a little smile and remained silent, tilting his head a little bit. It was a Skitty; how adorable! And he knew, should it wish to be caught, that it would have a happy home with Arashi since he was so understanding towards Pokemon.

Not to mention little play dates their pokemon could have...assuming the Skitty liked them and their Pokemon, of course. They'd have to wait to see that much.

Arashi appreciated Gabriel's regulation of the canine Pokemon, seeing as this one was feline, and he waited to see whether the Skitty would be alarmed by the scents it must now be perceiving. Indeed, the Skitty had paused briefly in contemplation, mid-chew, and looked up at them. Clearly visible were the berry pile, the humans, and the Poochyena. It took a moment of contemplation, but the Skitty's stomach won out, and the little cat proceeded as before, though glancing up warily every once in a while to check that it was safe. This particular Skitty was relatively easygoing, and anyway preferred this lot to the Giggling One.

Jake reached out a hand, following Gabriel's idea and restrained his now struggling poochyena. Shade finally stopped barking after Jake realized he only wanted food and gave him some berries from his bag. Jake laughed as the Skitty nosed it's way into the pile of berries, eating everything in sight and finally turned around when there were no more. "Go ahead, catch it," Jake whispered, "just set out a pokeball and see if it willingly comes."

Nodding, Arashi extended a hand containing a Pokeball towards the Skitty, setting it down within sight of the little felinoid. Curious, and not feeling threatened, the Skitty batted at it like a toy, triggering the button. The ball wobbled a bit, but the Pokemon inside was feeling a little lethargic after eating so much, and did not burst out. "I think I'll call this one Sky." Arashi murmured, picking up the now-still sphere and smiling. Overhead, the weather was worsening, and it looked as though the rain and wind would soon hit.

Jake nodded happily. "That's a nice name," he said amiably, and as the first raindrops fell, he had to let out a grin."Lets go inside. I don't know about you, but I think that Ember doesn't like the rain much," he laughed pointing at his vulpine Pokemon who was scurrying around trying to dodge the wet missiles raining down from the sky.  Ambling over into the lean to, he called all his pokemon to come in. Spark was first, running into Jakes arms, then Ember, desperately trying to avoid the rain, and last of all Shade, his fur wet from the drops that now pelted down harder and harder on top of the roof, but luckily didn't drip through.

Gabriel smiled when the Skitty captured itself, only to look up at the sky and grimace. He scuttled over to the shelter and huddled up into another ball, trying to shield Nyte and Bolt by gently picking them up. He had a feeling Bolt didn't need to be getting wet, seeing as he already sparked more than usual.

And then a thought struck.

If it was raining, they couldn't have a fire, and the rain would only make it colder. He winced slightly and huddled around his four-legged pokemon, looking up as Cynder fluttered down to land on his shoulder after shaking any water out of her feathers.

Tonight was going to be a long one, but once again he didn't want to possibly alarm the other two, so he hoped his small pokemon would be enough warmth for him to be fine through the night.

Arashi was in full agreement with the other two about getting out of the rain, and hurried to huddle with the others, shuffling in third - following Gabriel so as to provide a barrier between the more fragile-seeming teenager and the outside. The wind was beginning to sound like the howling of some frustrated beast, and perhaps some part of it was, while the pattering of the rain provided a staccato counterpoint. It was unclear how long the rain would stay.

Gabriel looked out of their shelter and out into the rain, closing his eye and making a little face as Bolt and Nyte both decided to lick his cheek, probably to provide some manner of comfort since they could tell Gabriel wasn't too happy with the rain. He smiled after a few moments, however, and stroked their heads fore a few moments before he reached over to gently lift up Cynder and settle her into the group, gently stroking her feathers. Thy should probably start to battle at some point to strengthen their defenses, but he didn't want to see anyone, person or pokemon, hurt, so that left them at a bit of an impasse.

Then he glanced at Arashi, who appeared to be acting as a sort of barrier between him and the storm. He smiled, tilting his head a bit. That was...really nice of him. "Thank you," he told him gently, only to end up looking outside once more. "I get the feeling we might be in here for a while..."

Jake smiled and laughed, agreeing that they would probably be in here for a while. Seeing Gabriel trying no to shiver in the cold rainy air, he handed Ember to Gabriel, stating simply, "Here, she'll help you keep warm." Curling up closer to Spark and Shade, already missing Ember's warmth, Jake looked up and said, "Well, seeing as we are to be in here for quite a while, lets tell more about ourselves. Even though I feel that I trust you with my life, I would like to get to know you a bit more."

Gabriel blinked at Jake when he handed Ember over to him. "A-are you sure?" he asked softy, looking surprised. "What if you get cold too?" He looked down at the little fire-type fox, gently rubbing her curl-topped head. And then Jake mentioned the extent to which he trusted them and he blinked in thinly veiled surprise. "O-oh! I...well, um...thank you. That aount of trust is...astounding," he said quietly. "As for knowing more stuff about me, um...well, I'm an only child, for one," he began, tilting his head a little bit. "When I was younger I had really bad asthma, but I grew out of most of it. It takes a lot to trigger it these days." He smiled sheepishly. "I have, however, retained my...knack for getting cold exceedingly easily."

Arashi started slightly when Jake told them of the extent of his trust for him and Gabriel, though he supposed that they'd formed bonds somewhat rapidly, and he felt touched by this faith in him. "Ah, thank you, Jake. I'm flattered." Arashi mumbled, not sure how else to respond. "Er, well, I'm an only child from a family of Breeders, and I grew up surrounded by Pokemon. I've interacted with them all my life, and most of my friends have been Pokemon. I and my family used to live in Lavender Town, but we were discovered there by Team Rocket, who decided to kidnap Pokemon from us. I was six at the time, and some of the Pokemon abducted were like siblings to me. We decided to move after that, and keep our location hidden. So far, so good, but I'm not sure any of us have really gotten over it." All the while, the weather outside was wailing, and old trees creaked and moaned. Some areas were more vulnerable than others, and the forest would not look quite the same once the storm was through.

Jake listened to Arashi's story intently. So that's why he acted like he held a grudge against team rocket already, Jake thought. Then, his history spilled out.

"I was born in Olivine, in a small house near the Gym. My parents were both Trainers, but only kept a few of their pokemon and released the rest. My father's Arcanine, Liam, was like an uncle or older brother to me. When I was little, we would wrestle and run together, and I would ride on top of Boulder, my dad's Golem's, back. I was always closer to my dad than my mom, and she knew that. One day, there was a big fire. I was 4, and I was at my friends house alone with him. A wild ponyta, don't ask my how it got there, set fire to the house. I ran, but Owen couldn't keep up and died in the fire. I almost drowned, since I ran right into the water and kept on running, farther and farther out. When they told me of Owen's death, I was shocked. I cried for weeks, and that's when I promised to try to stay strong, to never back down, to fight. For Owen."

Gabriel looked between his two teammates before he glanced down. "Well, um. I don't really have much of a story like that. My mother was a chef in a four star cafe before I came along, and once I was old enough to stay at home on my own she started volunteering at Pokemon Centers. My dad is an electrical technician who helps keep the Lumiose Tower in Kalos running." He rubbed his arm lightly. "Or, well, he was before we moved here when I was younger. They figured being here was better than the city for my asthma, and the first thing I ended up doing was wandering off and accidentally getting into a little scuffle with a wild Lillipup. I wasn't hurt too much and that spurred my interest in Pokemon." Then he rubbed his arm lightly. "Minus a lot of bullying that's basically all of my life."

Arashi froze, wincing in sympathy as Jake spoke. While he was glad to know that he was not alone in having grown up with Pokemon family members, he was disheartened by the revelation that Jake had experienced such a traumatic event, and he felt that this was something that, while it wasn't the same as his experiences, he could empathise with. Obviously, there was more to Jake than he had known.

"A chef?" Arashi asked, having decided that offering Jake condolences beyond a look of sympathy would strain the atmosphere into new levels of awkward. "That sounds quite interesting. I enjoy cooking, myself, though I'm hardly up to chef standards." His ex
pression darkened a little when Gabriel mentioned the bullying, and he made a mental note to prevent it from re-occurring. This was someone he felt a connection to, and whom he now called friend. Someone who seemed a little fragile, and caused him to feel protective. He wasn't about to allow anyone to push around someone he called friend.

Jake listened in utter silence to Gabriel's story, looking down at his feet in contemplation. Finally he spoke. "If you need any help getting rid of those bullies, just call me, okay? I'll be here for you, whatever happens." Listening to Arashi's comment, Jake turned up from the ground to face Gabriel, a small smile across his face.

"Yes, and did you inherit any of your mother's skills?," Jake asked, "Cause my belly tells me its time for lunch."

Gabriel blinked and looked over at Jake, a thinly veiled ex
pression of surprise present on his face. "Oh, um...thank you," he said gently, not sure what else could say to the offer. And then he looked to the both of them in turn with a small, sheepish smile. "Well, my dad is the one who taught me how to cook if that's anything to go by," he told them, then looked at Arashi. "Do we have anything we can cook, assuming the storm lets up enough for us to use the fire?"

"That goes for me as well." Arashi added, referring to the bullying, and Jake's advice. "As for cooking - berries don't tend to be at their best when cooked over an open fire, so we can eat them anytime. Hmm, I can see some plants whose tubers we could definitely cook, and I have some supplies in my bag. If we used one of my little pots, we could chop some tubers and herbs and suchlike into it, add some water, and produce a broth. I see herbs around here that are safe to eat, and I have a little plant edibility guide for those. I lost the berry one, though. How does that sound?"

"Sounds great!" Jake said enthusiastically, losing some of his seriousness at the prospect of food. Spark hopped up and down on his stubby legs in excitement at the nom noms, and Ember and Shade were already heading towards the roots Arashi had pointed out to dig them up. Jake said, "Arashi, will you come with me to help bring water to the campsite? The problem of a bowl is obvious, but your sharp mind may be able to think of a remedy to this problem."
