Laina looked over at Sidney and gave him a wide grin, tail thumping on the ground beside her. She felt like she wasn't alone, for once. For once, she actually had company- someone who hadn't ran away. Someone who was actually interested in her. A friend, for now. She didn't know if he would try to leave in the dead of night.

"So, where did you come from, Sidney?" she asked, looking back up to the stars. She didn't want to stare for too long at her new friend. He may get creeped out and leave, and then Laina would be heartbroken. Her tail slowed, and her ears laid limp on the ground.

~~~~~~~~~~
Cecilia finally gathered up the courage to ask a question. She'd had to think of it for a while. Her blue eyes zeroed in on Sora- she still considered the pikachu girl a possible threat. Though, Cecilia's stance was anything but defensive. She was now relaxed, without a single tensed muscle, but her brain was going in circles.
"How did you become a poke-human?" she inquired. "I mean, you couldn't have always been like this. There weren't reports of you guys until just recently..." She looked off into the distance for a moment. The sun had gone down, and the stars were shining above, she noticed. She had been to busy earlier with trying to conceal her true intentions to note that.
"Where did I come from?"  Sidney considered the question.  "I live in a neighborhood out that way."  He pointed into the distance.  "It's really nice there, mansions and the like.  The people there are all really wealthy.  Of course, a lot of them are snobby and stuck- up too."  His eyes grew dull with thoughts of all the rude people that lived near him.
"But I'm not the interesting one here."  Sidney wanted to gather as much information about her as possible.  "You are really something special.  Once a human, now part Pokemon...  It's simply amazing!"  He got a bit overexcited, displaying a wide toothy grin.
The cold breeze swept over his skin, sending shivers through his body.  He ignored the cold, glancing for quite some time at Laina.
"Where are you from?"  He asked, sliding a bit closer to her and gazing into her eyes.  "I want to know your story."
Alaina found it interesting that Sidney had been brought up in such a neighborhood, full of wealthy people- even if some of them were snobs. She wished that she could go there, but she knew it was impossible in this state. She would stick out like a sore thumb.
When he said that she was special, she couldn't help but blush, but she didn't take it so seriously. In her opinion, she was nothing special at all. Other than her pokemon features, she was so ordinary. Brown hair and big brown eyes, with a short stature. The only thing that had ever stuck out about her- other than her eevee ears and tail- was her personality.
Laina had never been... complimented on her oddness. Her pokemon features. She considered them a disgrace. She didn't fit in anywhere. She wasn't a human anymore, nor a pokemon. It was such an odd area to be stuck between. And to think that there weren't too many people out there like her. She'd met other gijinkas, but they came and went with the breeze, it seemed.
Her cheeks were still red as she spoke. She just hoped it was dark enough for Sidney not to notice it.
"I... I used to live in a little stream-side village to the west of here. I was kicked out of the house when my family saw my pokemon features. I guess it scared them..." She bit her lip, sitting up and staring down at her hands.
"I'd rather not tell sad stories. I'm sure you wouldn't like to hear them, either."
The word 'Village' was a word Sidney didn't expect to hear in this day and age.  All he ever knew were large neighborhoods and busy cities, never small villages.  The thought reminded him of tribal times, with people dancing around fires and living in tiny huts.
He noticed that Laina had sat up, and he followed soon after.
"You don't have to say anything that hurts."  He assured her, placing a hand over hers after some hesitation.  He hoped that this gesture wouldn't creep her out and instead comfort her like he intended.  "Anyone who would kick you out doesn't deserve to be in your presence anyway.  You may have the physical characteristics of a Pokemon, but you still have the heart of a human."  He peered over at her nervously for a few moments, then looking the other way.  He wasn't used to talking to girls, except a few snotty rich ones.
Laina was surprised as Sidney sat up, too. She hadn't really imagined him to be the comforting type, either, so the hand on top of hers was so unexpected that she stilled all movement for a while. She swallowed a lump in her throat. While she'd never actually had a comforting touch from anyone other than her own mom, who'd recently rejected her, this felt really nice.
She regained movement and nodded. She didn't want to tell him her life story- it was a bit sad, but it held good times, too. Maybe, if they became good friends, she would tell him later.
"Thanks," she said to his words of comfort. "Just let me know when you get tired, and you can have the bed. I'll sleep when you sleep. I need to get my sleeping schedule back on track, anyways."
Kyuron wondered if she should have offered to handle the fire, since the worst it could do was irritate her skin. But, it was already too late now.
"My name's Kyuron"
She placed her little pile of berries on the ground away from the fire. Her sense of ease was gradually growing. She had forgotten the comfort of another person's company. She began to wonder about other gijinka. Did they wander, like she did, or did they all settle down into their own territories?
"You're pretty good at cleaning a fish, have you been around here for long?"
"Long enough."  Ace replied, gaze focused on the sizzling fish.  "Probably about a year now.  Times get tough, especially this time of year.  Winter's coming."  He cringed at the thought of the frigid wind and scarcity of food.
The fish released an irresistible aroma that effectively masked the skunk- boy's odor.  He removed the meal from the hot rock with a clean stick carved to a sharp point, placing it on a plate that he'd made out of wood.  He retrieved another carved stick for his guest.
"I guess you're good with berries?"  He had just noticed her little stash of the fruit.  "I never had much luck with picking out the good ones from the bad.  Ate some berries once and got very sick from them.  I've never eaten any since."  He smirked with the somewhat humorous memory.
"Eat up."  Ace encouraged, taking a nibble of the hot fish.
~~~~~

Sidney yawned again.  "I could go for some sleep now."  His eyelids had grown heavy as he got more and more tired.  "But I don't want you sleeping on the bare floor...  Do you have extra blankets to put down?"

Sidney was concerned about her health in this chilly weather.  Were she to get sick, there would be no medicine to help her.  And he wouldn't be able to stay around long to take care of her.  Tomorrow he had to go home, as much as he didn't want to.  He knew that leaving would make Laina sad, and the last thing he wanted was for her to be sad and alone in this cold, dark cavern.

Laina guessed that she would just have to force herself to go to sleep. Her brown eyes went to the corner of the room where a medium sized box sat before she actually got up and moved to it. The dark corner of the cavern was easy for her to see, thanks to her being a pokehuman.

"There are blankets already on the bed for you to use. I'll use this one," she said, holding up the blanket she'd retrieved.

She found a cleared off space beside the small bed that she had managed to fit in the cave and put the blanket down on the ground. She laid down on top of them, positioning her slender arm so that se could use it as a pillow.

It was awfully cold at night, but she would give Sidney her bed. She positioned her Lon hair around her to keep her a bit warmer, and curled into a small ball before wrapping the excess blanket around her.

"The bed is all yours." She offered him a smile.

Kyuron blew on her portion of hot fish, then remembering that it was unnecessary, she took a hearty bite.

"I had a cousin who spent a lot of time in the woods, when we were young she showed me which ones were good to eat."

In the warm months Kyuron could find enough to eat, but she shuddered at the thought of winter. The last winter was hard, and she wasn't looking forward to the next. It was difficult to prepare oneself for the harsher weather when they were on the move.

"Thanks for the food and shelter."

Sora sighed. "I was living in this small village and I woke up one morning with these." she shrugged and pointed at her ears and tail. "My family was terrified, and with this stupid lighting, I scared them even more. They told me they would love me no matter what, but they lied." She looked down to her feet. "The next morning I woke up deep in this forest." Sora said, realizing she was spilling out her life story instead of saying how she turned. Honestly, she didn't know what happened and how she got this way. Its a mystery she wouldn't mind knowing herself.

"You're so sweet."  Sidney grinned walking toward the bed.  He felt rather bad that his friend would have to sleep on the cold ground.  He ducked down to where she was, wishing he could make the night a little more comfy for her.

Sidney then realized he had a jacket on.  He temporarily peeled back the blanket that was wrapped around the girl, removing his jacket from his shoulders.

"This will help a little."  Sidney placed his jacket over Laina, then lifting the blanket back over her.  He settled into the bed, surprised by how warm and comfortable it was.

"Goodnight."  He said, quickly dozing off into slumber.

~~~~
"No problem."  Ace replied, eating just a little more.
"You're probably tired.  I know I am."  He said with a smile, getting up and receding further into the cave.  He came back carrying a stack of blankets.  "It's not the best way to sleep, but it works."
He laid out two separate areas of blankets to resemble little floor beds, then placing a few blankets down for each of them to sleep under.
Cecilia was a bit surprised by how simple the girl's transformation had been, though she was curious as to what had caused it now. She found herself more interested now in hearing the girl's story rather than forcing her into a mechanical ball. She dropped the notion of capturing her at all for now.
"It's getting kinda late. I've asked enough for now," she said, even though she'd only asked two questions. "I'm gonna crash for the night. You can join me, too. Safety in numbers, you know. Forests are dangerous."
And, with that, Cecilia sat back down and leaned against the tree that she'd previously been leaning on.
~~~~~~~~~~

Laina was happy when Sidney didn't argue with her about taking the bed for himself, though his comment of her being sweet made her happy, too. It wasn't exactly the most comfortable bed, but Laina had made sure to keep it comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep on it.

When he paused before getting in the bed, she looked up at him from the ground. As the covers were lifted off of her body, she began to ask him what he was doing, but he had placed his jacket on her before she had the chance. He was being kind- considerate. It was a good deal warmer than any jackets she had ever owned. The covers were placed back over her, and she settled in against the floor, closing her eyes as Sidney said goodnight.

She noted that his jacket smelled nice- her sense of smell had heightened since she'd become a pokehuman.

Before she knew it, she had drifted out of consciousness, and into the dream world.

"Me get lost?" Sora said as if Cecilia had been joking. "I know this forest like the back of my hand." She crossed her arms. Yet for some reason, Sora decided she would stay. She curled up in a ball, only a foot away from Cecilia. Her static came to a rest and she was soon softly snoring. Her dreams consisted of herself and this girl she had just met. They were in a Pokemon battle, and from the looks of it, Cecilia was her trainer. This wasn't just any Pokemon battle though, it was a tournament battle, and they were winning. Sora would do anything to win one of those this. It was her dream as a human to be the best trainer, but now it was to be the best Pokemon.
