Zane smiled when the girl had blushed from his touch. He felt the skin under her hand heat up, getting warmer the longer they touched. He loved the feeling, that much was true. It was unique, something the two shared, something no one else had. It was exactly what he needed.

Zane contemplated her comment about the tattoo. He looked into her eyes before he spoke. "It's not the tattoo that's important to me," He said softly. He glanced down at his hand, which was still covering hers. He moved it, letting his fingertips trail down her outstretched arm. He glanced up to her eyes again.

"Tattoos are only skin deep," Zaniell added, removing his hand completely from Zera. He folded his hands into his lap, letting Zera decide if she wanted to keep touching his chest, or let go. He preferred the former.

Zera chewed on her bottom lip as Zaniell said that the tattoo wasn't the thing that was important to him. What did he mean by that? She didn't know, but she was curious. She was then surprised by his words of wisdom. She wondered why he was so wise. Tattoos were only skin deep. It was true, she thought, but it also had a back-meaning.

Goose bumps raised on her arms as his hand trailed up her arm, and then he simply dropped it into his lap. She was a bit disappointed, because his fingers left trails of fire where they touched her arms. She was also left with her hand resting idly on his chest.

Deciding to be a bit bold, she traced the swirling pattern of the tattoo on Zaniell's chest- the one beside his heart- with her index finger. She then trailed down to just below his chest, on his stomach, and then back up, tracing the designs. She wondered who was so creative to create the tattoos. It must have been quite the job.

Zane's eyes left Zera's own as he looked down to watch her tracing the tattoos. He felt his skin heat up everywhere she touched and shivered again. He wondered how she wasn't cold. But, granted, things were getting pretty heated there.

Zane looked at Zera's arm, noticing her goosebumps. It made him smile that his touch had the same effect as hers. He unclasped his hands and lifted one away from his body, towards Zera. He covered her free hand, the one that wasn't trailing patterns on his chest, with his own. It was a small move that made him suddenly nervous of rejection. He bit his lip to keep away the thought.

Zane closed his eyes as she made her way back to his heart. He took a deep sigh, marveling in their little world. "That feels really nice, Princess," Zane murmured, his voice just above a whisper.

Zera's goose bumps had turned to chills when Zane clasped his hand over her free hand. His hand was larger than hers, and seemed to engulf her fingers. She nervously shifted her fingers beneath his and chewed on the inside of her cheek. Her hand stilled and she reluctantly pulled it away from Zane's torso.

That was right after he had said that what she was doing felt nice. She let out a sigh and put her forehead against Zane's shoulder, closing her eyes and saying, "I should go back to sleep. Time goes by faster when you sleep." She lifted her head off of his shoulder to give him a small smile. She needed some time to think about all of this.

"Plus, I'll decide better on where we should go if I sleep on it." She pursed her lips and nodded, laying down against the ground, leaving a space beside her for her captor to do the same.

"I don't want time to go faster," Zane muttered to himself, hopefully not loud enough for Zera to hear. He pulled his hands back together in defeat. He took her removal of her hand from his as a rejection, even if she hadn't meant it like that. Rejection. Just as he feared.

He nodded mutely as Zera laid down. Zane looked for his shirt and pulled it over his shoulders. There was no reason for it to be off, really. It only provided a little more warmth than without. He was sure Zera would survive.

Zane crawled next to her, his unbuttoned shirt flapping at his sides. His mouth was set in a firm line as he started to button up his shirt. He couldn't get one and began to get frustrated. He accidentally pulled it off. Zane angrily flicked the button across the tent, going to work on the next one. It had been decades since he opened himself up to another. What did he get? Rejection.

Zera heard Zane mumble something, but she couldn't distinguish the words. She just knew it was a bit disappointed, and muttering-like. She sighed and waited for Zaniell to lay down next to her. She debated on sleeping without being close to him, but that would be impossible, because she would be too cold to sleep.

So, when Zaniell layed down, she was surprised by the presence of his shirt. Wondering why he put it back on, Zera momentarily furrowed her brows and looked up to his face. He looked frustrated, fiddling with his buttons. She acquired an amused look when one was pulled off and Zaniell flicked it across the tent, working on the next button.

She sighed, placed her head on his chest, actually meaning to make his job of buttoning his shirt up a bit more difficult. Maybe it would even make him give up.

"Who told you you could put your shirt back on?" she muttered to herself.

Zane froze as Zera leaned her head against his chest. Her movement caused his shirt to lay at a weird angle, making him even more frustrated with the damn thing. He lifted the other side of the shirt, attempting to button it like that. He pulled off another button by accident, flicking it across the room with the other one.

"Who in the hell made these damn shirts anyways?" Zane growled to himself, dropping his shirt from his grasp. He clasped his newly freed hands together. At that moment, he heard Zera's comment.

You could say that Zane was extremely confused at this point. So, what? She was a 'look but don't touch' type of gal? She could torture him but not the other way around? He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose near his eyes.

"I think we should just sleep now, Princess," Zane said, laying down, and away from her touch. He kept his unbuttoned shirt on, though it had no purpose since it just lied at his sides. He lay flat on his back, folding his hands together on his stomach, his eyes closed.

Zera fought back giggles as Zane got even more frustrated with his shirt as she put her head on his chest. She heard a button hit the tent's roof and let out a small snicker. Why was he so intent on buttoning his shirt? Did he just not give up? She sighed. He was such a determined vampire.

She was then the confused one as Zane pulled away from her touch slightly. Oh, so he wanted to play that game? Just bite her, make her touch your tattoos, and then shy away from her? She could play that game, too. Of course, she might end up shivering before the night was over.

With a slightly angry look, Zera turned over, away from Zaniell, and made sure that all he saw was her back. She pulled a blanket over herself, and let out a small huff. She placed her head on the side of her arm, and already felt chills rising on her skin when the wind howled outside.

Zane didn't see Zera get angry, but he felt it from her actions. She was laying down, but not touching him. He cracked an eye open and only saw her back. She had the blanket up to her shoulders, her hair covering her neck. He heard her huff, and then he huffed back.

Zane turned on his side as well, his back facing Zera. He pulled the blanket up on his shoulders as well. He moved back so Zera and him were inches from touching backs, but not quite. He put his arm underneath his head as a pillow, the other resting on his side over the blanket.

If this was the way it was going to be, Zane wasn't going to sleep very comfortably. The only time that Zera hadn't fallen asleep touching him was the first night in the cottage, and that was only because they were on separate couches. He frowned, thinking of how cold she was going to be. But, he was not going to give in. Not yet.

Zera could feel warmth seeping somewhere towards her back. Zane was near her. She edged further away from him to a corner of the tent, curled up in a ball with a separate blanket covering her. Just being this far away from the vampire made her freezing, but she wouldn't lose this game of wills. She shook slightly from the cold, but it was minor, and barely noticeable.

She readjusted herself under the blankets, wrapping herself up like she was in some sort of cocoon, and placed her head on her hands. Curling up into a ball, and having herself wrapped into a cocoon of a blanket helped slightly, but she still quivered under the covers. How she hated being human and weak. Plus, she was weak to the cold.

Her eyes opened, and she stared at the fabric of the tent. When it came to throwing people's crap right back at them, Zera excelled.

Zane frowned as he felt Zera's presence left his generally area. He turned his head just enough to see that she had migrated to the far side of the tent. They weren't even sharing a blanket anymore. He hadn't noticed her shaking, but he was sure that she was. Humans and cold didn't mix.

Zane was just about to ask Zera if she would prefer if he went outside with the horse when his conscious took over. He bit his lip and glanced back again. The girl was in a cocoon of blankets, and probably still cold. He sighed, giving in to his pride. He hated to do it, but it had to be done.

Zane crawled over to Zera's blanket mass and frowned. He noticed that she was staring at the tent, obviously ignoring him. Wordlessly, Zane laid down next to the Princess and wrapped an arm around her. They were practically spooning, though a thick mound of blankets were separating their bodies apart.

Zane opened his mouth to say something, then closed it with an audible snap. He didn't have anything to say at that moment.

Zera felt something wrap around her, and felt the warmth of someone behind her. She looked down and saw a muscled, tattooed arm. Zaniell. He had caught her off guard, and a light blush stained her cheeks. She actually debated on pushing his arm off of her and walking to the complete opposite corner of the tent, but she had a feeling that he would even follow her there.

Plus, when she felt the warmth seeping through the blankets separating them, she relaxed from her tensed position and actually sighed. Wait. Why did she just sigh? She was supposed to be pissed off of him. Not happy that he was right behind her, and arm wrapped around her, lending her his warmth.

After a few moments, she closed her eyes, and couldn't find anything else to say. She wished that she could curl up beside him, without the blankets separating them- Or Zaniell's shirt- and go to sleep. She would sleep much more soundly, but there was no doubt that she wouldn't be thinking about where to travel. Zaniell had a strange tendency of unintentionally disrupting her thoughts.

Zane woke up the minute the storm had stopped raging. He heard the unsettling silence and immediately rose. He sat up, attempting his best not to disrupt Zera, and calmly buttoned up his shirt, which was an easy task now.

Zane grabbed his cloak from the door and shrugged it on. "Princess, you need to get up." Zane said as he exited the tent. He didn't even look to see if she heard him, the breeze enough would wake her.

As Zane called for the horse in the snow, he decided that what they had, the Princess and him, needed to stop. He would only refer to her as her proper ti
tle, and would not touch her unless it was life or death, like her almost freezing last night. It wasn't his place. What he really thought they should do is go to a witch, or a Voodoo master, to see what the electrical connection was, then get rid of it.

Zane jumped as the horse rose from the snow. He looked it up and down, brushing his hand here and there to see if it was alright. It seemed to be fine, nothing serious. Zane pulled out a bag of oats from the bag and settled it on the ground, open, for the horse to eat. It would need its energy to get over the pass.

Zera wasn't woken by the cool breeze or the silence. She woke due to the absence of a certain vampire. His warmth was gone immediately, and, though it had warmed up, when she breathed, she could still clearly see her breath. Chills formed on her skin, and she pulled a blanket around herself. Where had her vampire gone?

Wait. Her vampire? She hadn't realized she'd thought of that until it was already out of her mind.

She yawned and stretched, standing from her spot on the floor of the tent and moving so that she peered out into the cold. It had been so long since she'd seen Zane with his cloak on that she almost didn't recognize him. She shivered as a chilly breeze swept over the settled snow and towards her. Walking in Zane's footprints, she moved toward the black-cloaked figure and his midnight-coated horse.

The stallion seemed fine, and Zera was glad about that. She rubbed her eyes at the light reflecting off of the snow and yawned again, stumbling sleepily towards her captor. She stopped a foot away from him, putting a hand on his shoulder to get his attention. "You said that I would decide where we went yesterday. I'm deciding that I want you to decide. Surprise me." She gave him a sleepy smile.

Zane heard the Princess far before she touched him. She knew what he was, and it wasn't as if she could really sneak up on him. He didn't turn, though. He kept brushing the horse down, checking its hooves and legs for any signs of weakness or soreness. It seemed to be perfectly fine, but Zane kept checking it, to pass the time away.

Zane jumped at Zera's touch, not because it scared him, but because their little electricity gave him a sharp zap. He moved his shoulder from her hand before answering.

"I know you feel it too, Princess," He said loudly, some of his voice getting caught in the chilly wind. "The energy, electricity, whatever it is. I know you feel it." He paused. "I want to go to the neighboring kingdom... There is someone I know who might be able to sort out what it is." He finally turned to face her.

"So we need to go as soon as possible."

Zera was a bit surprised that Zaniell jumped from her touch, and even shrugged her off. It was a bit hurtful. Perhaps the kiss that he had planted on her forehead, and the comforting had all been some of his theatrics. She quieted down after that, and was a bit surprised that he already knew where they were going.

She almost doubted he would've gone where she wanted to go, if she would've chosen.

She pulled her hand back under her blanket, and looked down, chewing on the inside of her cheek. She actually felt a bit angry about it. But she wouldn't admit to that. Maybe all of that had been a dream. If it was, she was sad it wasn't real. She sighed- it was a mixture between disappointment and anger.

Apparently, it was the whole 'no touchy' thing again with Zane, Zera thought. She didn't need any more information. She just really wanted the Zaniell that was in her dream to be real. She wanted all of this to be some sort of dream, though, in all honesty. She wished that her father had never betrayed her, but a small part of her would still wish that she was kidnapped by Zaniell.

She didn't look at her captor, and jumped up onto the horse's back, settling nicely in the saddle. If he wanted to be all cold and distant, she could do the exact same thing. She would ask for no help, and accept no help.

Zane was actually surprised when Zera didn't say anything about the connection they shared. It made him think it was only him who was having the feeling. Frustrated by her silent, the vampire walked to the tent and forcibly pulled out the stakes from the frozen ground, catching the tent fabric before it fell to the snow.

Zane shoved the tent into the saddlebag before grabbing the horses reigns. "Come on," He grunted, pulling the reigns forward to get the horse moving. He glared at the horse as it lazily trotted along. He just wanted to get this over with.

Determined, Zane lifted the cloak back up on his head, knowing that Zera didn't like it. He was being such an prick about the whole subject; he knew it too. But Zane's pride had been hurt. He opened up, then it just went downwards from there. He had to be careful as the journey went on.

The vampire could practically feel angry and hurt vibes coming from Zera. The bite made their connection stronger, and it was giving Zane a terrible headache. He refused to look at the Princess, keeping his head down as they walked, him in front of the horse - and out of her reach.

Zera glared daggers at the back of Zane's head as he pulled the hood of his cloak over his head, covering the face that she'd come to like. Was he trying to make her agitated, or angry? What had she done wrong? They had gotten along so well for a while, and after the snow storm, it was like Zane was a completely different person.

"Are you okay, Zaniell?" she asked, making sure to put on emphasis on his name, hoping that it would aggravate him just as the use of his cloak did to her. She had half a mind to lean forward, stretch her arm out as far as it could reach, and pull the hood of the cloak off of his head.

But that wouldn't end well, Zera decided. She adjusted as the horse trotted along, chills appearing on her skin as the cool wind lightly brushed against her face.

Are you okay? Are you okay?? The question rolled in Zane's mind like laundry in the dryer. He thought about lying to her, making it seem perfect and everything was fine. He didn't want to lie though; he never did. Zane brought the horse to a stop before turning to look at Zera from underneath his cloak.

"No, My Highness, I am not okay." The vampire said, his voice flat. "Am I okay that you're royalty, yet here I am making you forget that you are a lady? No. Am I okay that I was ever given this mission? No. Am I okay with this?" Zane touched Zera's leg with his hand, feeling the current of energy even though the fabric separating the two. "No."

Zane sighed. "Am I okay of what I am? I'm a monster, Zera. And you? You are a Princess. First of all, I kidnapped you. I was going to lead you to your death without a single question. I was going to hand you off for someone I've never met. And then, I forged a connection with you, one that I'm ashamed I did." Another sigh.

"I care for you Princess, much more than I should. I know you feel something for me too, but I'm not sure what it is now. Am I okay with that? No. This," He motioned between them with his hands, "was never supposed to happen. And I don't want to see you getting hurt because of me. It's inevitable with what I am.

"So, to answer your question: No, I'm not okay."

Zera didn't enjoy the way that Zane was talking to her. Sure, his voice was ridiculously sexy, and she bet that his face was, too, underneath that black cloak of his, but she didn't enjoy being talked to. He was basically yelling at her without even yelling. It made her cheeks redden, and she did her best to ignore the surge of electricity she felt when Zaniell touched her leg.

His very last part of his semi-rampage made her blush even deeper. But, if he wanted to act like a ridiculous maniac, going off on a mini rampage, he was free to do just that. Zera settled for being sarcastic in her answer. Maybe it would piss him off, she decided.

"And here I was, thinking that we were such good friends." She gave him a fake smile, her eyes burning like flames. "I mean, you know, cuddling all together last night, and then you claiming that you aren't okay with," she motioned between them just like he had, "this."

She rolled her eyes. If he wanted to hurt her, she would hurt him. "There is no 'this,' Zaniell."
