Richard frowned. Why wasn't Kimi listening today? Why didn't she respond? I didn't want to do this but... "Understand?" He roared again; seeing as she wasn't responding before. She won't respond now. Being impatient on her answer, he went over, grabbed her by her hair and dragged her out of the room and too the basement. Richard pulled her hair forward and threw her down the basement stairs. Time for more teaching on how to be a better wife.
[[You want me to get too Lance, or do you wanna go for a bit with this? You can power play Richard and say what he's doing. And then I can bring Lance in, in my next post, if you want. :))) ]]

Kimi had rolled down the stairs, landing with a sickening thud at the bottom of the stairs. She couldn't even speak, the pain of her body was too much. Kimi had nodded, she was sure of it... What, did Richard want a verbal answer every time? With a failed effort, she tried to get up but collapsed back to the floor. She grunted, somehow Kimi knew that she wouldn't be left alone so easily. She could hear Richard breathing, it was quick and short, proving how angry he was. God help me... Kimi tried once again and managed to get herself into a sitting position, looking up at Richard with a hurt ex
pression. "I understand.. I'm sorry, Richard." she almost cried again, but she wouldn't dare break down in front of him. Crying the first time had already been a mistake... She hadn't prepared herself for what happened next. He had given her the angriest glare she had ever seen. "You understand? Then why did you let it happen!?", he roared, and she only flinched. Richard took a few steps toward her and she gasped. Please.. don't let him hurt me anymore..!

As I stared soberly at the steering wheel while a street light was on RED, I realized that I had forgotten the tools that I had brought to fix the internet.
If it was just Richard, I would have called and said I'd be back later to pick it up...
But Kimi was there. Maybe I'd get the chance to talk to her; hear more of what she had to say about why she started to cry.
I turned around and drove back to the Smades house. I cut the engine and eagerly got out and went to the door. I tried the door knob - unlocked. With a grin, I opened it and walked inside.
"Hello?"
I said loudly to get anyones attention.
"Hel-"
Before I could finish I heard Richard screaming. Not in pain but in anger. Surely he couldn't be talking to sweet Kimi that way...
"Kimi!"
I exclaimed as I followed the noise and saw the basement door. I opened it slowly, silently, and carefully walked down the stairs to hear more of the conversation. I wouldn't make myself shown until I knew what was going on. I could be wrong. Richard could be yelling at a stray dog for some reason coming into the basement.
Or, hopefully something a little more reasonable.
I stayed quiet on the stairs, waiting to listen for any sign of Kimi.

Richard continued yelling and screaming, coming over and giving her a kick. She gasped and could feel the tears sliding down her face, she couldn't take the pain anymore. Kimi sort of exploded into sobs, whispering: "I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry" continuously until she felt that she could only say those words. Richard just walked over and grabbed her by her hair. "No, you're not sorry! You just want to shut me up! Well, too bad that isn't going to happen" "Please!" Kimi cried. If only she had enough strength to go against him... but she knew it wasn't possible. Even if she were to somehow protect herself, she was too weak and he would just hurt her more for resisting.

I was at a loss of what to do at first. Richard? ... Beating Kimi? This had to be a mistake!
But, soon I realized that I didn't care who it was. The fact that Kimi was hurt was what was hurting myself. I ran down the stairs and came behind Richard like a mad man. "Get off of her!" I exclaimed before putting an arm around Richard's neck and pulling him back from Kimi. "What's going on here?" I asked through my teeth at Richard as my arm went tighter around his neck. Who knew I could get so strong when I was so angry?

Kimi felt like a whole weight had been lifted off of her chest when she spotted Lance. Richard had only let go of her hair because he was surprised at Lance's action so she used that chance to lay down on the floor, her head throbbing a little. Kimi now had a headache. She didn't intend on paying attention to Richard's answer, but she wanted to know what he would say. She also felt a burn on one of her sides, a bruise would appear in a few minutes, she was easily bruised. Kimi was only worried about Lance and she had wondered what was it that made him come back. Whatever the reason, I'm completely thankful... She almost dozed off, maybe she had hit the ground too hard when she fell down the stairs. Little did she know that there was a small cut on her forehead that let out a lot of blood. Kimi slowly got up, ready to defend Lance if he needed any help.

"What's going on here is none of your business."
Richard said as his hand wrapped around Lance's arm and easily took him down. Soon Richard was over top Lance, pinning him.
"You weren't supposed to be here!"
He said through his teeth as his hands started to wrap around Lances neck.
"I don't want to do this Lancelot but... I have to."

The air was gone from my throat and I couldn't have words form from no air.
I turned my head to watch Kimi, realizing that if I went out she'd go out as well. So, with swift movements, I knee'd Richard in the groin and soon stood on my feet. Richard got up as well and just as he was about to attack, I mustered all the strength that I could find in myself and punched my own brother right in the face. Pain shot up my arm but at least Richard passed out.
Ignoring the pain, I came to Kimi's side.
"Whats... What happened? Why was he... I would have never guessed."

Kimi watched as Lance defended himself and she was surprised. "It's... always like this.." she confessed, feeling a little dizzy. She reached over and used Lance as support, Kimi could no longer hold herself up. "Thank you.." she rasped, her eyes filled with gratitude. What really hurt was, that she still really did love Richard. Stupid as it may sound, it was true. But after all that had just happened, she couldn't find any other reason to still love him. He had abused her and mistreated her. Taken her for granted and just pushed her around. Tears came down her face once again as she remembered the old days, when she had just started to date Richard. He had seemed like the most perfect guy in her eyes, what happened to change all that? All Kimi knew was that she needed a hug. It was official. Her heart was broken.

The second Kimi leaned into me I grabbed her instantly, keeping her in my arms protectively. At the moment I didn't care how hard I squeezed her or how I kissed the top of her head lovingly. The women I loved was hurt and broken; I couldn't help it, I couldn't hide how much I loved her now. "Why didn't you tell anyone?"
That was a stupid question.

Kimi was a little surprised at the way Lance held her in his arms but
she didn't complain. She hadnt been held this way in forever, and it
felt great. She listened to his question and blinked. Why hadn't she
told anyone? Kimi didn't know what type of question that was but it was
indeed a logical one. If she had told someone sooner, maybe all of this
would have never happened. But then again, she wouldn't have Lance
holding her this way either... She shook the thought away, this wasn't
the time for such thoughts. "I.. Was scared, Lance. I loved him and I
didn't know what to do." she whispered. It felt wonderful to finally
tell someone what had been going on, in a sense she felt free and a
little happy. Or, it could just be that she was feeling lightheaded.
Kimi concentrated on staying awake, not wanting to pass out.

I mumbled, keeping her close. I kept telling myself it was for her own comfort but... I couldn't help but enjoy it too.
"He's out of it but he'll wake up eventually. Honestly, I don't know what to do from here."
[[Sorry it's so short. I just finished watching Pride and Prejudice which is a really long movie and now I'm watching House so... My eyes have been on the screen for a while :P ]]

Kimi listened to Lance but she found herself starring at Richard. "The only thing we can do is call the police... I can't let him hurt me again.." she said, her voice wavering and becoming softer as the pain on her side grew worse. Kimi looked at Lance, not knowing what else to say. "Can you help me upstairs?" she asked, knowing that if she tried to make the trip up the stairs by herself that she would just injure herself even more. As it was, she was still a little dizzy and sore all over, how she had endured the pain up to this point was truly a mystery. Kimi sighed, she knew what was to happen now. Richard would be put in jail and then there would be a huge fuss about divorce papers, which made her shudder because she didn't like the word divorce at all. Marriage meant sticking together, but at this point there was no possible way for them to continue on.

I said. Though this was unlikely, if Kimi had chosen to give Richard another chance, I wouldn't have let her. The last thing I wanted was to lose sleep from worrying about Kimi every night.
"Of course."
I said before slipping an arm around her waist - I tried to not look so.. Eager. - and started for the stairs.
"What do you think you'll do once you move out of here?"
An image crossed my mind of her staying with me but...
I couldn't want people thinking the wrong things.

Kimi thought for awhile. "I'll just stay at my friend Natalie's house, she currently lives by herself so that shouldn't be an issue.. I have a job too so I'm covered financially" she added with a sigh. When they reached the top of the stairs she reached for the house phone and dialed 911, explaining all that had happened. Soon, the police arrived and were heading down into the basement where Richard was. Kimi was just sitting down on the couch, speechless.

I gave Kimi a sad smile as she explained her plans.
"Atleast you'll have a place to stay."
I chose to stay at the house until the police arrived - and when they leave - to make sure Kimi was truly safe. As they walked down the stairs to see Richard, I sat next to Kimi on the couch.
"You need anything. You come to me, alright?"

Kimi smiled at Lance. "Alright, I will. I wanna thank you for helping me out, you're a really nice guy, Lance" she told him, being completely honest. She looked around and sighed, the red and blue lights of the police vehicles were flashing and she couldn't hep but think about her neighbor's reaction. They'd probably be all like: "What's going on? Where's Kimi?!" This thought only made her smile a bit and then she turned back to Lance. "Life is truly an adventure" she joked lightly.
