Nikki showed Shayle to her Elantra and got inside.
"Hope your hungry because I have money that's burning a hole in my pocket."
Nikki said with a chuckle before starting the engine. Shayle didn't seem to understand the joke, reacting with her eyebrows furrowing in confusion as she looked at Nikki's pockets for burning holes.
Nikki smirked, not bothering to explain the fact that it was just an ex
pression.
She turned on the radio and told Shayle to put on the station whatever she wanted it to be on. But, she replied with a "We didn't listen to music much at the orphange. I don't really know what music I like, because I don't listen to it."
And so on. With a pang of empathy to follow, Nikki started showing her some nice music that she usually listened to. Like Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Tayor Swift, Chris Daughtry, ETC...
Finally, Nikki found Panera Bread, and parked in the closest parking space to the entrance door. The two girls got out of the cars and inside. It wasn't too crowded, as it usually is, which was good.
After they ordered, Nikki ended up getting a toasted cinnamon bagel with cream cheese, and  Shayle ordered the brocolli soup. [OMG I CAN'T SPELL D: ]
They found a place to sit by the window, keeping a look out for Shawn as they ate.
"Hey look, I see Shawnny!"
Shayle exclaimed as she took one more bite of her soup and pointed out the window at him. Nikki looked through the window and did a soft pat on the glass to get his attention, and the two girls waved at him, motioning him to come inside.

Shawn smiled when he spotted them and entered the Panera Bread. He wondered if they would ask him to eat something... he didn't eat much, well the type of food that they were eating anyway. He walked to where they were sitting and said: "Can, Shawnny sit next to Shayle-Bee?" Shawn smiled, it was too funny, making nicknames for each other. Shayle looked up at him with a thoughtful ex
pression. "Ummm, okay! Shawnny can sit down here", she said with a pat on the seat next to her. Shawn chuckled before sitting down. "So how's the food? I've never been here before", he confessed. Though he wasn't hungry, he was willing to try some of the food; now that he was Shayle's guardian, he had to try and act normal. Unless of course, he changed her into a vampire...

Nikki took one more bite of her cream cheese covered bagel as Shawn sat down. It was cute - the relationship between the two. She looked at Shawn while her eyebrows lifted.
"You just came back from adopting Shayle, and all your doing is going to ask us how the food is?"
She paused before adding,
"How did it go? How much money is it going to be?..."
Just in case he was getting hungry she did a silent offer of giving some of the bagel she hadn't put her mouth on yet. She ripped it off and handed it to him, while listening.

Shawn took the bagel piece and thanked Nikki before saying: "It went perfectly fine, I already handled all of that money business.", when he mentioned the money, he didn't try to meet Nikki's eyes. "So as of now, I am legally your guardian, Shayle!" Shayle smiled and clapped her small hands together. "Yay!", she cheered before putting another spoon of soup into her mouth. Shawn smiled at her and patted her head before taking a bite of the bagel. It tasted strange, but it was alright, not something he would want to eat on a regular basis though. Shawn really didn't want to talk about the money, for some reason Shayle's fee was much more expensive than the other children. $6,000 was a lot, but he had payed it all up-front, not wanting to get behind. Of course, that didn't do any damage to his wallet but still, he didn't want to worry Nikki about the money.

Nikki was tempted to push farther on the subject. His ex
pression when she asked didn't fit well.
And, now she was dieing to know how much Shayle would be, money wise.
Didn't he understand what he was getting into?
"Oh... Alright."
She said with a smile before taking the last bite of the bagel that she had. It was a good thing Shawn took part of it, because she was getting full.
"So..." She said awkwardly. "What should we do now?"
She asked, while standing up to throw her trash away. The trash can was behind Shawn, so it wasn't that much of a walk.

Shawn began thinking. "I don't know.. Hey! The carnival is in town, maybe we could have some fun?", he said with a wink at Shayle, who seemed uber excited. "Carnval Carnvaaal! Yay." He chuckled, the way she said carnival made him laugh; the absense of the I made it sound funny. "Of course, that's up to Nikki", he said. Shawn suddenly frowned. How am I going to pull it off? Shayle is going to LIVE with me... 24/7. He pushed the thought away. There were plenty of options and worrying about the situation wasn't helping. Shawn finished his bagel and sat there, waiting for Nikki's response. The ex
pression on his face was enough to let anyone know that something was troubling him but he tried his best to hide it.

Nikki was just about to start laughing with Shawn about how Shayle reacting to his suggestion, when she watched Shawn's attitude completely change.
"I..."
Why was Shawn upset?
"Uh... I don't care."
She said, though it was quiet. She was too busy watching Shawn. She reached a hand acrossed the table and touched Shawns shoulder.
"You alright?"

Shawn looked up at Nikki and said: "I-i'm fine. I was just thinking about something... Sorry, I tend to get into thought sometimes", he laughed and scratched the back of his head. "Anyway, it sounds like an OK for the carnival then! Ya hear that, Shayle? Carnval time!" I've really gotta leave the thinking for another time, this isn't helping... Shawn sighed and looked at the clock that was on the wall. "If we leave now then we can do just about everything when we get there.. Just because you're living with me doesn't mean we'll pass you bedtime", he joked, making it obvious that he wasn't too serious about curfews but giving a hint that they would have to leave early.

Nikki noted the stutter that was proof that Shawn was acting so different. She mentally noted that she’d be prying a little deeper later. When Shayle was in bed so he wouldn’t be so secretive.
Maybe he was having second thoughts about this whole ‘adoption’ thing. Oh she hoped not. That would crush Shayle…
“Great.”
Nikki said happily as she got up from her seat.
“I’ll call my parents once were in my car so that they know why I’m not home.”
She added before getting her purse and waiting for them to get up as well.
