Lori followed him carefully, her wings carrying her softly to the ground. She kept her gaze on him the entire time. It was obvious that he was tense and she shifted into her human form to ease that stress. She did it in one fluid motion, barely a moments hesitation between one form and the next. An ex pression of deep concern was etched onto her face as she asked, "Dren? Are you okay? Talk to me."

Dren closed his eyes, steadying his breathing. He'd rather tell Lori than anyone else, but he still couldn't bring himself to say it. He opened his eyes, focusing on Lori. He spoke softly, despite being larger than most of the trees around them. It was a rather young section of the forest. "I'd stay a dragon if I were you...Just in case..." He thought it funny, him looking out for someone else rather than himself. Though her being human did ease the tension, it didn't help with his cause. His brother hadn't been in dragon form....He continued. "I flew off not to ditch school, and not as a challenge. It wasn't an act of fear, or an act of desperation, nor pride. It was to protect you--everyone...that is." He quickly corrected himself, shifting. He lifted his head, glancing over atthe trees, thinking he'd seen something, but he didn't. ((Dren--as drawn by me: <3 ))

(uwaah, not bad O.o I'm tempted to draw Lori now too :D but Iknwo i'd butcher it :P) Lori shook her head, saying, "I trust you Dren, despite anything that may have happened in the past." She moved closer, unafraid, and lightly reached up to place a hand on his muzzle. She was deeply concerned, but she knew there wasn't really anythign she could do. With a smile, she said, "At least I got to see you in your dragon form."

Dren snorted. He'd have to be overly careful now, with her refusal to shift. "That's more than most can claim." He flicked his tail, settling down again, before closing his eyes, not wanting them to show his pain as he told his reasoning. "I left, to protect everyone. Last time I shifted into a dragon, almost 3 years ago, it was a night of bloodshed, and a night of tears. It was the night that some of my black scales were dyed bloodred." He sighed, laying his head down and relaxing a bit. He'd be talking for a while, it wouldn't do good to be uncomfortable. "We were walking along the road, my brother and I, in a town far from here. I forget the name, but I guess its good I do. We were both shifters, and both walking as human. We decided to go to our favorite place to hang out--an abandoned arcade--so we could shift and not be discriminated. Our house was too small. When we got there, and I shifted, something wasn't right. I don't know what. He...he hadn't shifted yet, and I lost control of my dragon self...." He trailed off, tears gathering in his still-closed eyes. "...Next I knew, he was lying there, dead, blood pooling from him..."

(sorry ^^) Lori listened, understanding that this was hard. Her ex pression had turned tender and she stood up, walking next to him and softly stroking his head. She said, "I'm sorry I understand now why it was so hard to talk about. I wish there was something I could do..."

Dren sighed, not meeting her eyes. "It's okay. It was the past. There is nothing you can do about it." He shifted, ending up a foot or two behind where his head had been. He brushed a few leaves and twigs off of his sleeves, taking a few steps forward. "After that, I fled. When I reached the next town, I continued. I travelled for three days and four nights, finally stopping at a town not too far from here. I then shifted, into a human, and vowed not to shift into a dragon again. If I didn't shift, I wouldn't hurt anyone." He looked over in the direction of the school, which was just barely visible. It was hard to see, due to the trees and the wide expanse of open space between it and the tree line. "Well, since I refuse to shift again, I'm guessing it'll be a long walk back, huh?"

(I'm going to post from my sister's account since she's throwing a fit about how inconvenient it is to have to log back out every time I want to post ^^) Lori stared at his back for a moment, letting the new information sink in. A deep aching urge in her chest made her step forward and throw her arms around him in a sincere embrace. Despite her inner confidence, she was blushing furiously, not really knowing why she had just done that.

Dren was shocked when Lori hugged him from behind, but managed to calm down. Lori seemed to have that effect, not scaring people much. But he was still suprised. He smiled, not looking back at her as he tried to hide the rising heat in his own face. "Come on, we don't want them too worried about us." Flara was now pacing worriedly back and forth. She wanted to go find them, but something in her gut wouldn't let her. She knew they were fine, after all, Dren was very pas.sive. But still, worry knawed at her like a horse at gra.ss.

Lori's grip tightened as she buried her face in his back, muttering, "I don't want to. God knows when I'll be allowed to hold you like this again." She didn't need a mirror to know there was a bright red blush rising to her cheeks. What in the world was she saying? Shut up, Lori! Shut up! -- Shane placed a calming hand on Flara's shoulder, saying, "Nothing is going up in flames so that must mean everything is allright. Stop worrying."

((O.O You've been planning stuff like me! <3)) Dren's face, by that point, was about as red as the tips on his hair. He couldn't bring himself to speak. Every time he tried, nothing came out. Like a broken record trying to play. He brought a hand up and laid it on on of her arms before he was finally able to find his voice. "Who's stopping you? No one has to allow you..." He instantly kicked himself mentally. What was he doing? He'd been like this before, speaking his mind without thinking, but he'd sorta broken that habit when he stopped shifting. Now, it seemed as if it was returning. Flara stopped pacing, nodding. "I know, but...my gut has a bad feeling. I mean, they wouldn't get caught off guard. Anyways, they have their dragon forms if anything too bad comes around." ((Hur. Teim to practice drawing Lori. Then--COUPLE DRAWINGS! *evil laugh*))

(rofl, BTW, I already finished Lori X3 Just need to find a way to upload her) Lori's arms tightened at his touch and she blurted, "You say that but then you're always so distant, like your not really there. You have no idea how hard..." she finally managed to bite herself back, but it was probably too late. now that her words were being supressed, the tears rolled freely. Oh my god, what's wrong with me? -- Shane ruffled Flara's hair as he said, smiling, "Exactly, so stop worrying."
