Adair hurried after Mollie as she scurried down the steps, but he had been sure to close the door behind him before he had done so. When Mollie found the door to the laundry room, he nodded, and cautiously proceeded forward, as if those creepers could hear him if he were to hurry in.

Cay rolled his eyes, then walked after Jeb. As soon as he poked his head through the door, he slammed the blade of his knife into the wood beside him. He grinned up at Jeb when it ripped clean through. "This'll be fun," he said simply, yanking his knife out of the wood and standing up beside Jeb.

Jeb peered aroujd the attic before kicking a cardboard box filled with gl*censored* things. Everything inside the box shattered and slashed through the air with a loud crash. "Get out here, you little freaks!"

Adair shivered. The air was damp and heavy, and definitely cold. Instead of shivering, this time, Adair shuddered, wrapping arm around his rib cage and mumbling, "What about this makeshift knife?" He held out his shard of the mirror he'd wrecked.

"Freaks," Cay laughed from behind Jeb, and absentmindedly plucked up one of those glas.s...things. He looked it over, then threw it over his shoulder. It was just a bunch of air-blown gl*censored*. Nothing special. "Why are they freaks?"

     Mollie carefully inspected the gla.ss shard in Adair's hand and nodded. "It's much better than nothing at all. I don't see anything else we can use." She picked up a bottle of laundry detergent. Her hands trembled and tears began to form in her eyes. "What are we going to do, Adair?"

     Jeb glared at his partner, ignoring the question. "Where the hell are they?" he yelled, kicking another box out of his way. His beady eyes shifted around the room. The kids weren't anywhere to be seen.

Adair nodded at her comment, then bit his lip. No matter why Mollie had picked up the laundry detergent, he didn't really care. She looked pitiful, really, holding that bottle and shaking. He knew he probably looked just as bad, so he didn't bother pointing it out. No good could come out of trying to be humorous now. "Not sure," he managed to say quietly. "I thought that maybe we could call the police, but there's no chance that..." He bit his lip harder and shook his head. No sense on depending on the police any more.

Cay glared right back at Jeb. "Why the hell are you yelling at me?" he snapped back. "Maybe they disappeared. It's very possible to evaporate into thin air when you're sweating like a madman,"

     "We need to get out of the house," she stated obviously. "If we can get to the front door without them noticing us, we can run to the neighbor's and call the police." Her voice started to rise at the thought of them escaping and she looked at Adair with wide eyes. Mollie thought of where they were in the house and almost cursed. "The door's at the other end of the house, though.. And they're gonna realize that we aren't up there soon.

     Again, Jeb ignored Cay's question and looked questioningly around the room. "It looks like they did disappear," the bulky man whispered to his partner. He looked around another box before turning back to Cay. "They got out of here somehow."

Adair pressed his lips into a thin line, then glanced around. "Okay, so, we need to get out of the house first. I think a distraction would get at least one of us out of here safely," he said, his own voice returning to its normal volume. He looked back at Mollie, even though he could barely see her outline in the dark. "I'll do that. You're faster, smaller, and I don't think you can fight off two grown men any more than I can, but still."

Cay gave his partner some sort of look that read, "No, duh?" then replaced his knife in its sheath. He'd need it later, but for now, it would be better to keep it somewhere where it couldn't hurt him. "Then, our task is to find out how they got out, and catch them." He looked around, squinting in the darkness of the attic. Maybe there was a window or something...or a  door. A small door.

     Jeb had the same idea as Cay and started to knock and feel along the walls. After a moment, he found where the small door was located and called his partner over. "They got out this way. Let's pry the dam.ned thing open and find them."

     "What?!" Mollie yelled. "No. There's no way I'm letting you do that, Adair! We're both getting out of here." She gave him a look that meant business and tried to keep her lip from quivering.

"Aha, so I was right," Cay announced, looking rather triumphant as he reached down to ground. He plucked a shard of a broken mirror from the ground, then practically shoved Jeb out of the way. He shoved the mirror through the crack near the door, then took a step back. "You do it," he said, frowning.

"Oh, well," Adair growled, scowling and turning Mollie away from himself. "you don't have a choice. And don't yell, Mollie. Do you want them to know we're down here?" He shoved Mollie towards the door leading out of the laundry room, gripping her shoulders tightly before giving her another light shove.

     "Fine." Jeb found the remains of a tattered curtain, wrapped it around his hand, and then push down on the jagged piece of mirror. With a load crack, the door popped open. Stairs led downward into darkness and another thick wooden door. "Alright," he looked at Cay and gestured inside. "You first."

     Mollie planted her feet and continued to to scowl at him. She wasn't going anywhere without him and he knew it. She jumped when the door upstairs was loudly pryed open and she began to panic. "Oh, my God. They're coming!" Without another word, Mollie grabbed Adair by the wrist and pulled them out of the laundry room and quickly down the hall. Place to hide, place to hide!

Cay scowled at his partner. "What? Scared of the dark?" he asked, taking a step close to the door anyway. It was small, and they'd probably have trouble getting inside. Oh, well. "Or do you just want to make sure nothing'll happen to you when you go down these stairs?"

Adair bit down hard on his tongue when the door yanked open, just to keep from yelping in surprise. Blood welled up inbetween his teeth, and when Mollie grabbed him, his teeth went further into his tongue. "Stop, stop," he hissed, wiping Mollie's hand off of his wrist. "You go. I'll stay behind," he said, jabbing a finger in the direction of the front door. "I can take care of myself."

     Jed looked at Cay and scowled. "Can we just get on with the program please?" Without waiting for an answer, the man stomped down the stairs and raised his steel toed boot up and bringing it down hard on the wooden door. With a loud crack, the door flew off of the hinges and slammed onto the floor. "Let's go."

     Mollie jumped as the sound of the laundry room door being busted rang through her ears. "Adair, stop it! We're both going. NOW!" Tears were stinging Mollie's eyes and she was shaking uncontrollably. "You wouldn't leave me. You can't." She looked up at her friend, fear and terror showing clearly in her eyes.

"That's what I thought," Cay grumbled with a huff. "Don't you tell me what to do, ignorant bast.ard." he thought aloud, and he really didn't care if Jeb heard. They were partners in crime, but that didn't mean they had to be nice to eachother.

Adair shook his head, hanging it so he wouldn't have to see Mollie's terror-stricken ex
pression. Biting back tears, Adair managed to say, "I'm not leaving you. Go, Mollie, or I'll kick you out myself. I'll lock the door, even." in a shakey voice. Of course, he hated what he had to do, but if it meant saving Mollie and possibly himself... Well, he was going to do it.

(Lol. You can call me Meg if you want. Or Mand. It doesn't matter to me. ;) And they're so mean to eachother! XD)

     Jeb stuck his middle finger up for Cay to see and then looked around the room. There was a laundry basket off to the side of the now missing door and he smile. "They tried to cover the door so we couldn't get through." He laughed and licked his dry lips. Where oh where can they be?

     Mollie's bottom lip quivered and and tears rolled down her face. She looked down at her feet before pulling the best friend she's ever had into her arms. As she sobbed for a moment against his chest, the girl squeezed him tighter and said, "You'll be right behind me, right?"

Cay rolled his eyes, thinking, You're so badas.s. He moved towards the laundry basket, moving it out of the way with one swift kick. The laundry basket slammed against another wall, and Cay smiled in satisfaction. He'd do that same to those kids.

 Adair wrapped his own arms around Mollie, hugging her tight and letting his own tears drop into her hair. Although he wasn't exactly sure why he was crying, because he was supposed to be all manly and brave. After all, he was the one sacrficing his safety. "Get out of here," he mumbled to his friend, pulling away. "Go. Before they catch you." He couldn't tell her that he wouldn't be following.

     Mollie took one last look at Adair before turning and running towards the front of the house. Her breath came out ragged and her head pounded. I'll go get help, she thought, her mind swirling. I'll go next door and call the police.

     Jeb squinted at the door leading to the hallway and started towards it, stepping over all the carnage they had created. With one swift yank, the man pulled the door open wide. Down the hall, standing all alone, was the terrified boy. A smile slid onto his face.

Cay followed Jeb, thinking that he was being pretty dramatic. They were just going to kill two kids, not the damned governor. Or president. It didn't matter. He noticed Jeb smiling, and he poked his head through the doorway. It was a...girl? No, a boy. But, either way, he was alone.

The door made such a horrible noise when one of those men jerked it open, and for a moment, Adair couldn't move. He was hyperventilating quietly, barely moving, never thinking. And then, he bolted from his spot without a thought, running into another room and slamming the door behind him. Weapons. he thought, panting heavily. I need weapons.

Adair gasped, and a chair caught his attention. He sprinted from his spot at the door, grabbing the chair and pushing the top of it under the door knob. Hopefully, the wouldn't be able to get it open for a bit.

Now, for weapons. There was obviously nothing in a somewhat empty room that he could use. He glanced at another door. Thank god Mollie's house was like a maze. He scurried through it, hoping to find his way into the kitchen through the dark.

"Hey," Cay said loudly, looking around. "What if there's more than one door that leads in and out of that room?" he asked, cocking his head sharply. In his head, he was blaming Jeb for that blunder.
