"I don't know," Adair said softly, giving Mollie's hand a light squeeze. He wasn't scared of the dark, but the darkness was pitch as black, and he couldn't see a thing even after he got used to it. He stuffed his hand in his pocket and came up with his phone, which he used as a flashlight.

Adair swallowed, shining the light around the room and poking the screen to keep the light on. "Okay, should I call the police?" he asked, glancing down at Mollie.

"It's not!" Adair cried, and he threw his phone down next to him. "I'm not getting reception in your room. Dammit, I told my mother to change phone companies!" He glanced at the closet door, trembling lightly, and then pointed at it. "Don't you have a flashlight in there or something? It's so dark..."

    Mollie hurried over to her closet and began to dig through it. After a couple minutes of searching, she produced a large, green flashlight and clicked it on. A long stream of light shone across the room and Mollie gave a sigh of relief. "Thank God, it works. Here," she said, handing the light to Adair and picking his phone up off the bed. Then her eyes slid to the door again. "So, are we going to the livingroom?"

"If you want to," Adair murmured, looking down. He wasn't feeling very comfortable right now. At the moment, he was reliving childhood fears, remembering exactly why he was afraid of the dark and such. Nightmarish movies had frightened him, and the thought of seeing Mollie slaughtered, or being killed off himself...

He shuddered lightly. "Or, we could stay here." he said quietly.

    Mollie looked up at Adair, confused. "But we have to get reception on your phone to call the police. And maybe it was just someone prank calling us. It's not like they could see us or something..." I hope, Mollie thought, trying to put on a brave face. Yeah, someone prank called and Adair just got freaked out. We're probably blowing this all out of proportion.

Adair took a deep, shakey breath, literally swallowing it, and then sighed. "Alright," he said, dusting off his jeans. "You're right. We're probably overreacting. Whoever was on the phone was probably just one of a few bored teenagers who don't have anything to do tonight." He cleared his throat, then grabbed Mollie's hand and started walking downstairs. "I don't get why we have to use my phone, though... You've got a home phone, after all."

    Another sound rang from the kitchen but this time it was louder. Mollie whimpered beside Adair and tears were beginning to form in her eyes. She was terrified. A loud crash made her jump and she began to sob quietly when suddenly...

    A fat, white cat emerged from the kitchen licking his jaws and purring contently. Mollie stared at the cat for a moment, realization lighting her eyes, and then jumped to her feet. "Sebastian!" she screamed, balling up her fists and stomping her feet in rage. It had been her mother's cat making the noises. "You stupid cat! You almost made me pee myself!"

Adair laughed, then stroked the white cat's fur again. "He's sweet," he said, cuddling Sebastian again. "I love cats... Did you know that?" He glanced up at Mollie, smiling.
