Step-by-Step for Petpage Building

Just as a general note, this guide will not be covering HTML or CSS -- this is simply a breakdown of what needs to be covered in order to be accepted into the Pet Spotlight queue.

If you'd like to learn coding, we suggest using the following site:

https://www.w3schools.com/

For a live example of a passing page, please refer to PetSpotlight:

https://www.rescreatu.com/petpages/index.php?id=3917814

1: Pick your pet!
A logical first step would be to pick which pet you wish to submit first. This is likely one you have a character set up for or strikes inspiration in you. No matter the choice, it'll be a good one!

2: Plan your layout!

This is a lot more daunting than it sounds. Do you want one text box? Two? None? What color scheme do you want to use?
Keep in mind legibility and aesthetics when doing your planning. Yellow text over a white background is probably going to be inaccessible to most people, but yellow over dark blue would work fine!

3: Code!

Or insert your code if you've commissioned it from another user. Most people will mark where textboxes are and a lot of functions such as repeating backgrounds or font color are easy to adjust once you find the code necessary for it. This is also the step where you can add images and icons!

4: Write!
Add your story, your poetry, your diary entry, whatever writing you'd like to add to the page! Just remember that song lyrics may not make up the bulk of your writing -- otherwise, write whatever you'd like so long as it's in English and follows the site rules!

5: Credit!
This is the most important step in getting a pet page submission accepted to the spotlight. Everything on the page needs to be credited unless it's the default, either the pet image or the background. This includes writing, art, and coding you've done yourself -- take credit for it! Be proud of it!
Do note that "Image found on Google" is not proper credit and will not be accepted.
If possible, link back the user's profile or the artist's website.

FAQ

- Do I need to credit for [x]?
Generally yes. Coding, writing, and art need to be credited for, even if you have created that aspect yourself. Blanket credit is not suitable and will not be accepted as proper crediting. We don't want any of our creative talents on the site to go unnoticed!

- How do I code?
This is something we cannot teach you in-depth due to lack of time. Many users are willing to help out if you ask in the forums or Shoutbox, however, and there are websites such as w3schools that go through the process in great detail.

- Can I commission a page?
Absolutely! You're free to commission any aspect of your page so long as credit is given.

- Am I allowed to use art from an AI Generator?
No. We do not allow the use of art created through AI generators as these typically use unsourced, uncredited art that was used without permission. The same applies to writing as well.

- Does the page need to match the pet?
In short, yes, though this is judged on a case-by-case basis. Having a pet named Advertisement, for example, may include links to your Ranch, your Merchant, and your art thread but these would feel out of place on a pet named George.

Hey team!  Question about the pet that I want to submit.  I had submitted it once before and was told that it needed to have at least a certain number of words written into it.  Actually, when I had it coded, I had all the words written into the actual design.  It is, in fact, one of the main design elements...THE main design element actually.  I was wondering why this wouldn't count as the story, poem, etc...

Here is the url for your review.  I'd sure appreciate some feedback.

While the graphic has words within it, this is indeed considered a graphic rather than something you'd like to tell us about your pet or character.

Writing for this feature is considered anything that we are able to copy and paste or is legible by a screen reader.

The graphic and thus the writing are also uncredited and would need that as well before the submission may be considered for acceptance!
