Hey all! I know it's been a long time, but I have very fond memories of the Publish A Book contest. Monthly fun for writers all over Res, complete with prizes and new items.

I would love to see this come back, or something similar with a few tweaks! c:

I know I've heard lots of talk about needing new writer's lately, and and if we did then this would be a fun job for them-- judging the entries. :D

Thoughts and suggestions?

omg dustfeather this sounds amazing i am totaly for it and i think its a great idea.
i think there should be a word cap like 500 words per story and that a story shouldnt be judged down on spelling and things but maybe be tweaked so that all the spelling is correct and things, im sorry if im repeating things that might have been on the old contest thing but i wasnt here when the writing contest was but this sounds like a great thing that should come back

Glad you like the sound of it! It was very, very fun ^.^ There was usually a different theme every month and the winner's book got made into a book on Res that you could actually buy and read to your pets. "Flowers for Randall"  and "Heat Chase" are some of them. c:

And yes, maybe part of the job of the Writers could be to edit the story that gets chosen? Spelling isn't everything, I agree :D

yes i think writers should have the job of spell checking and grammer checking the story(s) that win. i say this as there are quit afew tallented writers on res and a fair few are dyslexic or have spelling and grammer issues and it wouldnt be fair if they were judged down because they cant use the correct grammer or spelling but im sure that the story would be all that matters anyway =3

Support! <3

But I don't support not degrading the score of a story when judging - to an extent.
Being a writer you should at least  have some background on proper spelling & grammar.
Be it the internet nowadays there's hardly any excuse for those types of errors.
Though there are times where you have extra spaces/wrong punctuation.
I say as long as it's not a chore to read and edit it, then yes, it shouldn't lose some of its score.
This is your story, not the judges to edit and perfect it. That's your job.

I would also suggest maybe if there were outstanding entries - (they might not be winners)
Maybe they could even be offered a spot as a writer?
I don't know how writers are picked, or if they want more writers, but it'd be neat. c:
Or maybe just a, "hey, you should apply for being a writer! your entry was really great!"

But otherwise, yes I support! Hopefully it will wake up the writing forum from it's dead-ness.

Well, the problem with points being taken away for spelling is that there are dyslexic people on Res. 8U
But yes, as long as it's legible and still totally understandable, it should be fine.

I didn't mean editing every single contest entry, I meant more that if one of them got chosen the winning entry could have some of the spelling corrected. Wouldn't want a published book on Res riddled with errors. Grammar doesn't matter as much so long as it makes a bit of sense, because it's not incredibly obvious at a glance. ^^
And even the best writers make small spelling mistakes. ovo ~

And yes, maybe once a month is a bit much. Perhaps it could be an annual thing instead, or biannual. ^^

People who suffer from dyslexia are capable of using "spell check" or having someone trustworthy they know to revise and edit for them :)

Personally I agree with Florence; the entrees SHOULD be judged on spelling and grammar - if you aren't capable of using either of those properly you should not be entering a writing contest.

This is a nice idea that I would love to see come back, though, so I support!

I forgot spellcheck exists lmao.
Well, I've never used it, so if it's a reliable program then I agree with Blue and Flo and they should be judged on those two factors as well as the story itself. |D

I most definitely support bringing back PAB! It's a great contest and adds some variety to the contests we've currently got going on! ovo

Should it be staff judged or should user judging be implemented like the contests we have now? It would be pretty fun to read the entries, imo, but I think it was staff judged the last time it happened? :o

I feel like once or twice a year might be often enough without swamping the staff and so on? Although I guess it hinges on whether or not members can judge it as well! otherwise I can only recall one PAB contest in my entire time on Res so idk how it was done before :[

This was a great incentive. I mean people who enjoy writing (roleplayers and such) would love to put their  talent in an actual competition. Maybe it could be held in a forum thread or something. (In order to help too, with the revival of the forums somehow)

I think the only reason PAB hasn't been happening is due to a lack of time/staff/etc. It's something we want to do, just have not had the resources to do. I think it is safe to say it has not left permanently and will definitely be back one day when we are able. =)
