This is based on Something that happened to me. The characters are real, and everything. Nothing made up.
"I'll be back later, Zeus." I said to my big, red Anitolion Shepherd. I prepared to go to a party down by the neighbor's house.
"Come on, Gabby!" My mother called from the kitchen. I darted through the door and down the road with my brothers.
We partied it out all night. Midnight came, and we were getting ready to leave. Mom came down from the house to check on the dogs, and said, "Zeus's paw is swollen, and he's limping."
I immediatley stopped what I was doing, and asked, "He'll be okay, right?"
"Probably. You know he's a strong dog. He probably dropped a rock on his paw."
Zeus loved playing with rocks. He pushed them around and grabbed them in his mouth. He talked to them. He barked at them. Damn, he loved rocks.
After the party, I rushed up to the house to see Zeus limping to the door with a greeting smile and a wagging tail. "Your strong, Zeus. You just played too rough." I said, smiling and wrapping my arms around his neck.
Months passed, and Zeus never got better. Vets have been testing him for diseases and such. One day, I came hom from school and asks Mom how Zeus was at the vet.
Mom stayed silent, and then said, "Zeus has bone cancer, honey."
Thats when I burst into tears.
Zeus had a Myspace page. Yes, a Myspace page with many other doggy friends. My mom controlled his account on there. When Zeus's friends heard the news, one of his close friends made a fundraiser so we can save up to have Zeus's leg amputated. They raised more than $10,000 to our ashtonishment.
Zeus had his leg amputated once we got the money. We all waited in the Vet's office to hear if it was too late. Did the amputation help? Ir did the cancer already get through the rest of his body?
The results were in. "I'm so sorry," The vet said. "But it was too late."
Me, my mom, and my brothers burst into tears.
Zeus's Myspace friends heard the news. They were all sad, and they planned a "Christmas in October" for Zeus. Zeus got packages every day from his friends around the world. We were all so very grateful. Zeus was a very happy dog.
Zeus's life was coming to an end. I came home from school one day, and Zeus seemed tired and Fatiqued, and his breathing was slower.
"I think we have to bring him to the vet today," Mom said. "To be put down."
Once again, I burst into tears.
Later that night, I sat by Zeus and my older brother sat on the couch. My little brothers were in bed. I knew That Zeus was leaving soon.
Mom and Dad walked in and stood in front of me. "Gabby? It's time to bring Zeus to the vet. Want to say goodbye?" Mom said, as tears ran down her face. Dad was upset, you can see it in his eyes.
I looked up at my Mom and Dad, and down at Zeus. I burst into tears, and cried, "I love you, Zeus!" My head layed onto his stomach as I cried.
Dad picked Zeus up and carried him to the car. I ran to the window and watched Mom, Dad, and Zeus leave down the driveway. I stayed silent for the rest of the night, and tears streamed down my face, blurring y vision.
My uncle and his girfriend came to watch us for the night. It was time for bed, and they sent us up to our rooms. I watched out the window to see when they come home.
They finally came home, and I raced down the stairs. Mom sat in the kitchen and I entered. I was silent for a moment, and said, "Mom, why ain't I crying?"
"Because you know Zeus is in a better place." Mom sobbed.
The next day, in school, I asked to use the bathroom because I was about to cry. I went into the bathroom for a few munites, and came out. I walked down the hallay, and as I was about to go back into my homeroom, my briends Katelyn and Brandon came out. I passed right by the entrance of my room and cried by the wall. Brandon and Katelyn went to my side and cheered me up. I thanked them and went back into my homeroom.
Zeus died on October 23, 2008.
