Hideable Showrooms

Well, you see, say you had a pet in your showroom that people see and pester you about. You don't like being pestered, so you stick it, unpriced, in your Rancher shop. And later, uhoh! Finger slip! You accidentally price your pet cheap and it gets sold.
And the purchaser never gives it back.

So why not give the option of hiding them?

Just throwing this idea out there.

I am a little confused - are you asking for pets to have an option to be hidden in Showrooms so that they can't be seen by other users?

I support, although it could ruin the purpose of a showroom, since it's meant to show off pets to the public.

They should just make another private yet optional way to store pets without having to price them or show them to the public.

I support nonetheless.

You can just put your pets in your rancher without a price. They will be hidden that way o3o

If you're that desperate to hide your pets you can switch to rancher :). You can always hide them in your rancher shop at 0 tu if you're that desperate, people will still see them on the search and you'll still get rmails. We can't hide them from the search entirely so really this will only lessen them to a degree, a degree that is covered by 0 tu in a rancher shop.

I also don't support.

Show room is for showing off. Owning nice stuff results in people envying it and begging for it, it is part of the fame and after all, the envy of others is what feeds our pride, admit it or not. If someone wants to be well known and celebrated like Angelina Jolie, but do not want to get 1000 fanletters a day and put on sunglas.ses everytime they leave the house, well, bad news, you can't have one without the other. Want to be left alone? Do not become a star. You do not want to be pestered with Rmails? Just get rid of the stuff.

Yaiz, just because she doesn't want a bunch of people to offer on her albino gondra, for example, doesn't mean she's going to get rid of it. Same for the rmailers: Just because she says it's not for sale doesn't mean they won't bug her anyway.

And, wolfspi. She said she knows you can hide them that way. But, if you finger-slip and price it along with a bunch of 2-tu junkers because you forgot it was there, someone buys, and then won't sell/give back, then she just loses her valuable pet. But, why? You could've just enabled hide on it in a showroom.

I don't think you guys realize how helpful this would be. -n-

Yeah, most people are overlooking that part of Draco's first post: about the finger-slip and accidentally pricing your valuable creatu cheap in your rancher shop on accident.

I.. don't really see the point of hiding a pet. Especially with the 'because you forgot it was there' thing. If the pet was that special, it shouldn't be that easy to forget. o_o

Heck, if you forgot the pet was there, you might never even notice it was gone. If you ever did notice, it seems like it'd prob'ly be a kind of 'Huh. Didn't I used to have a *insert pet*?'

Besides that, the forest is probably where you should put pets you don't want, anyway. ;o

If the idea is because of people asking to buy your pets, just put a note in your showroom - 'Sorry, but none of these are for sale,' or something to that effect.

And if anyone still decides to rMail you about it, don't reply back. They usually won't bother again.

Okay, maybe not forget it was there, but just be pricing and not really paying attention and accidently price it low. It doesn't take long for someone to snipe, and you may not have noticed by the time it's sniped.

And, even with notes like that, people still offer. o3o Trust me, hrrhrrr.

Err... that would just serve to annoy name searchers.

I say no solely because users will be furious if they can't find that name they've been searching for for hours and hours. And even if you do reason "Keep the name and creatu visible in the search", that defeats the purpose of hiding creatu because then you're STILL stuck with users seeing you have the creatu and continuing on to ask if they can purchase it anyways.

The best alternative to this would be to give the subtitles directly beneath the creatu's name that says "NOT FOR SALE". Although, if you just put that in your showroom deion then it should be fine. There will be the oc*censored*ional who still will ask. You can just ignore them or reply and let them know that it's not for sale.

All I wanted to say is, that it is not so hard to delete an unwanted Rmail once in a month (I doubt they come more frequently). A lot of people would be gladly take that trouble to own a dream pet of theirs ;).
Actually I know someone who is annoyed because noone ever notices their treasured black CS.

And I agree with LeTainted, when you searched through 40+ species, and didn't find a name although it's taken, your first thought is "maybe I missed it on a page"... and then you start looking all 40+ species again to realise it was indeed not there? I think name search is a pain enough without that.

I almost want to say I support...only because I often sell my pets thru my rancher, and whenever I have big sales or auctions I have to move my pets to my rancher so people won't ask/bid on them, and even if I move them to a "not for sale" category in my showroom, people always ask for them. xD Then when I'm done, I have moooovveee them all out of my rancher and back into my showroom, re-sort everything, etc. It's more on an annoyance than anything else though...

so...no support. D: Although I have to agree it would be nice to have something like that for those few times it feels like I need it, LOL.

Excellent advice, and it works very well. <3

No support.  I don't know why people act like simply ignoring an Rmail or deleting it is such an imposition.  If you don't want beggars, don't brag about your pets on your profile or in the SB.  Put a note in your Show Room that they're not for sale.  The rare mail you get occasionally after that is easily deleted or ignored.  Or, god forbid, replied to politely:  "No thank you, 'AWESOME' isn't for sale.  :)  ".  It's always worked for me.   I rarely get a second rmail, except for the very nice "Okay, thanks for the reply!".

As for "accidentally pricing the creatu", that's not something that should be the responsibility of Staff to prevent.  At some point, you do have to take responsibility for your own actions as a user.  XD

no support. When you own a good name or pet you bring the responsibilities of owning a good pet down on yourself including all the pestering rmails. like everyone says just put a note in big letters that showroom creatu are not for sale. If you're hiding a pet in your rancher it's your own responsibility to be careful when pricing pets to make sure you're pricing the right pet or not. also think about the people like Gunmetal and Air who have giant showrooms full of names the people want. If they can cope with all the people rmailing them about ALL their names you can cope with people asking about just a few pets.

i do name searches for 175k per name =] rmail for my offer
