It's been a while since we had a singing contest on Res. Therefore, I will be hosting one.
Here's how this will work:

1. Record a song or part of a song using a sound recorder software. You can choose to sing either acapella or using the karaoke versions on youtube. (The basic sound recorder on most computers is located in the start menu > accessories > entertainement)
2. Upload your au
dio file on http://www.fileswap.com/
3. Take the link/code and post it here

Prices
3rd - 500,000tu
2nd - 1,000,000tu
1st - 2,000,000tu

Rules
- All Res rules apply
- Your voice needs to be the only voice we hear
- Maximum of 2 entries each
- Songs must be in English
- No disrespectful comments towards other users or entries

Deadline : November 15th

Sugar, most laptops have built-in mics. Computers, on the other hand, do require that you plug in some kind of mic to be able to record. c:

Paw, you can still record with a computer. Just need to find a mic to plug in. Maybe ask your parents if they/you have one?

I guess you could also record with a phone or camera and then put it in your computer!

Hm. I'm not that great but I am interested.

Are songs which have been translated from another language into English an option? Also, is there a time cap on the songs?

Erm, how can you record just au
dio? Meaning, without a video. Or are videos required? O.o

Adopt one today! Please click me! I'm dying! EDIT: Oh crap I'm dead. Click me anyways, cause I'm awesome.

Oh I LOVE singing but i'm kind of insecure about it. I know it says up thar ^ in the rules no disrepectful comments, but my voice is like my life and I dunno if I wanna broadcast it on the internet. I think i'll think about it and maybe listen to some other people's first...

If you are wondering about how to record please read this!

Guys, there are a lot of ways to record au
dio. I'll tell you a few of them, but there are probably tons more out there too. I hope that this should be enough to help most people out. For troubleshooting, I would recommend google. It's quite helpful in cases like this.

First you could see if your computer already has a mic built in. If it has a webcam it probably does. If you click the windows program menu bar in the bottom left corner, you can search for it. Try something like sound recorder.

Most cellphones, from what I know, also have recording capabilities. They're a bit hidden, but they're there. In my case (I have an enV3 from Verizon) the best way I've found to access it was
send picture message> sounds> record new
It will normally be set to hold a minute, however if you go to options you can set it to record for up to an hour. This could be sent to any email address so long as you can send picture messages.

If you have an iPod touch (or likely any of the similar things out there) there is an app called voice memos. I found it in a folder labeled utilities on my iPod along with a clock and calculator. This app came free on mine, so I'm assuming it's standard. If not, you can probably download it free. You could easily record something on here and share it via email from any place with wifi.

If anyone has the game RockBand for ps2, the mic uses a USB cord. Your computer should be able to recognize it as a microphone. There are quite a few videos on youtube explaining exactly how to do it. I've heard of a few people who do fan covers using one of them paired with a recording program. A singstar mic with adapter might work as well, but I'm not certain.

Aside from that, you should be able to rip the au
dio off of any video recorded using something like clipcoverter.cc. Simply choose to upload file and set it to the settings you would like on the website.

Thank you Drocell, that will help lots of users! :D And songs that have been translated are okay. As long as you sing in English.
@RootBeer, videos are not required! In fact, I would prefer to have just the au
dio.
@Alice I'm the same way. My voice is my life! <3 You should give it a try, though. I would love to hear you sing! c:

Dude, I tried recording on my new laptop, and it has terrible quality. D; Plus, I have the worst sore throat ever, and I'm gonna sound like a frog. I already think I'm a terrible singer, so I might as well try, you know. x3 I can't get any worse with my frog throat, and any nasty comments will only confirm what I think of my own singing. Uploading soon....

Sugar - No one is allowed to post disrespectful comments anyways! And I'm sure you're not that bad! c:
And as for the quality, maybe it's because your sound is too loud. Try lowering the volume on your laptop and try not to be too close when singing! c:

I have a few songs in mind...
But the ones I want to sing dont have karaoke versions.
I'll also be attempting to record from my cell, so bad ish quality.
So is it okay if you could hear the persons voice but mine mostly?

XAllurcore, I guess it would be fine as long as the original singer's voice isn't too loud.
Paw, you should ask your parents. I'm sure they will find you a way to record! c:

Do you think I can make a web cam video and just make the screen black. I think I can get a link for it, right?

@7650 - Here's what Drocell wrote a few posts back:
"Aside from that, you should be able to rip the au

But if you really can't figure out how to do this, I guess your idea would work too! c:
