At the moment, the government in The Netherlands has plans to make a ''positive list'' on animals you can keep. It makes no sense at all, the list is incomplete and some animals that look like normal pets to me (Russian dwarf hamster/Degu) are gonna be illegal to keep. Other pets like the chinchilla will only be able to kept with special conditions. First they will do the mammals, if that works, they're gonna do a positive list for birds and reptiles too.
Positive lists are a political toy for the purpose of keeping friends with the anti-farming lobby. They try to make the impression that the list is to improve the animal warfare. The Positive lists in their current form do not contribute to welfare at all.
Now, I have a lot of animals and I'm not gonna let them take them away. I fear the most for my chinchilla's and gecko's.
