So, here's a question I have never had definitively answered.

Can a CS pet be dyed a DK color by the springs?

I know they can't be changed to black or albino, but do DK colors work?
I dunno where else to post this, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. D:

I'm sure they can, although personally I haven't tried - been too busy trying to complete my DK ardur collection lol.

I remember one of the content management staff said in an sb post:

Hatch colour: excludes cs
Dye colour: excludes trance

After all, a dyed cser is only worth the nattie cs+dk colour

Yes it can change them to the dye kit colors. I don't know all the details though so I'd go with the post above mine. The springs did change two of my creatu calico though =)

How often do you have to visit the springs to get them to change color?

You have to get to tier 16 and above. Even then, the chances are random but at least it's possible.

So basically you can't have your pets change color until you are on tier 3 no matter what? Good that means I can have my Calico pet selected until then.

Yup. You're pretty much going to get random spring items, lose/gain health or stat points, or lose/gain TU on the first 2 tiers.
It's not until tier 3 you can get Quelis eggs, color changing choices, rare items, gain/lose high amounts of TU, health, or stat points.

I'm just glad that it gives you the choice to keep the color change or not.  It tried to turn my achromatic chimby sepia and I freaked out for a few seconds.
