How do creatu become prehistoric?

I thought it was if they were resurrected after a certain period of time, but I'm really not sure.

Prehistoric pets are pets that existed in V1, I believe. When V2 came along, all those pets ended up being Prehistoric.
I also think there's a glitch that will make your pets Prehistoric, but I don't really remember how to do it. Or if its considered Glitch Abuse or not to take advantage of it.

Put a creatu in Auctions, and if no one bids and the staff have to get it out, then it becomes Prehistoric. c:

That.. might be considered glitch abuse though if you do it on purpose. xD

But yah, other than that glitch, there really is no becoming prehistoric. It's a thing that happened almost three years ago. It really only even exists because the feature that records Creatu birthdays didn't exist before then. None of the Creatu born before v2 had any birthday data, so they needed a placemarker. P:

I used to have a Malal that was left and forgotten in the hatchery back in V1. When the V2 change came, I hatched it and it became both Genderless and Prehistoric. :3

I'm not sure how the "prehistoric" thing works.  It's not just when the Creatu was hatched.  Some of my oldest creatu are NOT listed as"'Prehistoric", while some of my younger ones are.  My first one (from 2007), has a 2009 "birth date," which is obviously incorrect.  Oni is younger than him, but Oni is listed as "prehistoric". 

I think it might have something to do with whether a pet was on a profile or in a Show Room when V2 rolled.  Just guessing, as that's the main difference I've found with mine.

It's because the prehistoric thing took a little while to come into effect. At first all the Creatu had birthdays of the day v2 started, but then after a few hours or so all the ones on people's profiles were changed to prehistoric.

So everyone who had put their pets back in their Showroom already kinda missed out. x3

... Or at least that's how I've always been pretty sure it was. I remember seeing some people say they didn't get prehistoric pets, and all of them had put their pets away, so.

And if I recall, my pets weren't labeled prehistoric in v2's first few hours but then after a little time they were. All of them were still on my profile at that point.
