Your pets will grow over time. It takes 15 days for a baby to become a teen and 15 days for it to go from teen to adult. Remember to feed them so they don't die and just let them sit on your profile. That's all you need to do.
In order to keep your pets from dying when you're away, you can just put them in your showroom - found through the little animal icon at the top left of the page. Pets that are in a showroom won't get hungry, so they'll never die.
Or, yeah, you can use the food pen too. It's the apple icon.

First, buy a toy, then select the pet you want to make happy. Then go to your inventory and click on the toy, and click Use Item.
Different toys can make your pet happier than others. On the item deion it will say "This item will give an effect of 2 happiness" or something like that. Items that give 2 happiness or will make your pet Delighted; items that give 1 happiness will make your pet Joyful.
Food pens do work. But it's selective. It will randomly feed a Hungry pet to Satisfied. But it will skip a few pets. Eventually the leftover Hungry/Dying pets will get fed as well.
Doesn't it take a while for pets to die on the profile without the risk of losing the name anyway? Like about 2 weeks or something like that? The pets will be fine for a few days until you have to worry a bit.
Cato- You make money (tu) by playing games, selling pets you hatch, and selling items you get. Perhaps you should play around and discover things yourself- it'll be more fun that way. ;P
