CHEEKINS.  Btw, my dog bella isnt named after Twilight either.  I dont like twilight.  Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are better in my opinion. anyway, back to animals:

Snappy: thats sad.  :(

Jayfeather: CHEEKINS.

There should be a law that children unde rthe age of seven are not aloud to have pets of any kind. Cats, Dogs, Hampsters, every single one of them.

Why? because stupid people give there stupid children animal just to keep them occupied for a few days.

Also, because my little brother (who was 6 at the time)'s dad gave him a Guinea pig (which he threw at the wall until it died) a hampster (who he squished. Literally) His dog, who eother got ran over or ran away, and my cat. He put that stupid dog WITH MY CAT ON PURPOSE becaus ehe wanted to see them fight. i got blood on one of my favorite pair of pants. (though both animals survived, theu suddenly dissapeared. We think his gramfather took them. )

I have so much problems.

I have more love for an animal then I do with a human baby.

...Sometimes.

apparently, in high-school biology you have to dissect guinea pigs and rabbits

So sad : (

Wolves killed by humans > Humans killed by wolves. STOP IT. Put this in you signature if you love wolves. This can make a difference. ---- Vietnamese monkeys are dying, they've done nothing to us why should we do something to them.(STVM)

I absoutly hate animal abuse! My town is sick and theres always some poor animal. Everyone owns a gun, and guys at my school shoot em, mace, burn them alive, torture....It makes me sick. Our own pound, instead of putting them to sleep its a bullet to the head, puppies included...sniffle. Me and my mom have took over the pound and have saved 208 dogs from the death of the bullet. I understand how serious animal abuse is

I had to dissect a worm, a crayfish, and a rat just this past year.

Also, I disagree with you Zozo. Not every child is like that. My parents gave me a dog when I was five. They brought me to a local breeder and I sat in the barn that the puppies were in and just would gently pick them up and put them in my lap and pet them. When I finally picked my dog, we brought him home and I loved him and trained him myself using a book they'd also bought me. He's 11 now and he's like my fat, happy little brother. Never once was I rough with him or abusive.

It's wrong to deny children the right to have pets. And what happens when there's already a family pet in the house and a child comes into the family? What then? They have to choose between their child or their pet because of a law?

It's the parents responsibility to judge if a child is capable of being around animals (especially small ones) and owning one, not the government.

zozo, I have to disagree with you. Even though some young children are very irresponsible when it comes to animals, not all of them are. For example, when I first got my dog, we went to a breeder's. Sugar is her name (*points to username* :3 She loves to eat snow!) and she was terrified of my family because she's scared of strangers. Sugar's brother and her hid under a chair. I simply sat on the ground, waiting for Sugar to come out of the chair. Once she did, she took an immediate liking to me and I held out my hand for her to sniff. She gladly did, and licked me and I pet her very gently. My family only wanted to get one dog, so they got Sugar since she was being so nice to me. I was only 6 or 7 at the time, and I didn't do anything to hurt Sugar or her brother and I was very young at the time. After we bought Sugar, I trained her very well. She knows a bunch of different tricks and comes when called. Whenever she sees me, she wags her tail. She absolutely loves my family. She's like my little sister! My family always say I'm her favorite. ;D I was never abusive to Sugar, and sometimes I would accidently hurt her, like I might accidently step on her foot when I wasn't watching where I was going. I would apologize immediately and give her a huge hug and a big treat, and Sugar would wag her tail and look up at me and dip her head, almost like she was forgiving me. (Animals are so intelligent and sweet! <3) She sleeps in my bed and gives me kisses and greets me with such enthusiam whenever I say hello to her or whenever I come home after going somewhere, like school or the mall. She's so happy with our family, and is a part of our family. She's very happy, and Sugar loves us all. You should see her. Right now, she's currently lying down next to me on the floor, just begging for a belly rub. :) I don't know what I'd do without Sugar. She's currently 5, and I hope that there's no place she'd rather be.

It's the parents' responsibility to make sure that their children are responsible enough to handle the companionship of animals and the responsibility of taking care of them. The parents should teach their children the proper way to take care of animals and how to treat them. I agree completely with Graveyardfox. Just because someone you know isn't responsible enough to handle owning an animal doesn't mean all young children can't handle it.

I disagree in the politest way possible. I believe that you are wrong, and I'm not trying to make you angry. I am simply stating what I believe. You have a point that some children can't handle owning an animal. But like I said before, not all kids can't have an animal. I know so many people who had dogs and cats at a very young age, and they treated them very nicely with responsibility.

@zozane
Wow, throwing a hamster at a wall until it dies? >:0 that ticks me off

I think small children should be around animals so they learn to be kind to them. But, I think you should have to have a licence to own animals because some people are so irresponsible it makes me want to throw stuff out the window or punch something. I had neighbors that would buy kittens and puppies then bring them to the shelter when they're adults and no longer cute *throws chair out second story window* My other neighbor got a puppy which, surprise!- wasn't house broken. So this puppy had to stay outside in the heat (with long black fur!) and in a garage at night. Alone. A people loving attention motivated dog, alone, all night. Thats not even the worst of it. They fed him crap like hash browns. He didn't get any water when he was out side so he drank polluted water and was horribly sick. He had bloat so bad, and he would be in pain when his belly was touched. -Heres what pisses me off the most- They kicked him. In the stomache. A puppy. Sensitive to touch. .....*pushes shelf out window and rage yells* we ended up getting him from his horrible owners (he was sooo sick at first :( ) and he grew into a happy relitively health (hip problems, probably genetic considering the breeds that are in his mix :/) Now hes gray around the muzzle, and has these odd bumps all over his body, (like under his skin, and pretty big to) but hes happy just to be around me and my parents. [edit] hes gray around the muzzle cause he's gettin kind of old (especially because hes part rotrwieler -spelling fail- and I've heard they're not exactly famous for long lives -some ones probably going to argue that :p-
When I get home (visiting a relitive for a long time) I'm going to try and volunteer at the nearby shelter at least once a week :)

zozo, no affence but if that was my brother I would have literally like give him a taste of his own medicine!

and yeah I got my puppy Daisy (Chihuahua) when I was 8 and I was so gentle with her because I already knew that if I put her in pain it would just be like me in pain, 3 years have past now and I love her so much <3 she has gone through a tough life and she is actually sitting on my lap right now.

I think thats a good idea, some stupid people would probably take the class, ignore what they learned, then go get an animal anyway though :P
