“Guards!”

Flecks of spittle flew across the lavishly decorated room as the man on the throne shouted. Several men ran to stand in front of him, standing at attention.

“Profit report,” the man on the throne said irritably, “and make it quick.”

“The recent tax increase has brought the monthly profit up half a percent, sire. We recently raided a village that was suspected to contain two tax evaders, and that reaped several million dollars. We didn’t end up finding the tax evaders, but we did gain a large amount of food and a few women as well,” The soldier took a breath and searched his memory for other recent profits. “Another raid is planned for next week, to search out a possible murderer, who will be given the death sentence.” The man fidgeted slightly while saying the last sentence, uncomfortable with the blatant contradiction.

“Go.” The king didn’t bother to thank his guards, for they were, to his mind, slaves. It was true that they were paid a meagre wage, but they were totally expendable and the punishment for complaining would make the work conditions seem like a spa retreat. He relaxed back into his plush throne, relaxing his bulbous stomach and closing his pale blue eyes. Life was good for him, the poor were poor, the rich were rich, and he, the king, was the richest of them all. There was a tiny, nagging problem at the back of his mind, but he ignored it. A king deserved his peace, after all.

Not far away, but looking like another world, an ebony-skinned woman surveyed a broken and burnt-out city.

“This time, Keige has gone too far.”

———

The light filtering through the dusty window barely lit up the shabby room. The peeling walls, worn furniture and threadbare blankets gave it a decrepit look, but from a small padded cupboard came a tiny glow, barely visible, but enough to transform the surrounding objects from looking ancient to somewhat mystical. The faded tranquillity was broken, however, by a tornado of raven hair and ruffled skirts bursting through the door.

“I would kill him if I could… tax evaders… too far…” The woman muttered broken snippets of sentences mixed with frustrated curses in various languages. She darted around the room, dark eyes and calloused fingertips probing for various supplies. Eventually, she had gathered a curious *censored*ortment of objects on a rickety table, before kneeling before the padded cupboard and opening it. The light from inside became much brighter, and without wasting a second, she scooped up the precious contents and hid them in a bag. She was ready.

———

Being in the streets past curfew was dangerous, and Rilia knew that. Still her task was worth far more than her own life, and she couldn’t do it by day. Sneaking through the streets, she pried her way into houses and left notes for three sleeping people.

Three sleeping people whose lives were about to change, forever.

———

The story so far: The three have found their notes, and have followed Rilia some way into the forest. She's dropped some hints on what's going on, but nobody's entirely sure yet.

((HOkay.))

A small shape darted throught the darkness, lithe and swift. The figure, outlined by the moon, was obviously a boy, running as if a pack of wolves were nipping at his heels. Skidding to a stop under a small lantern, His body was illuminated. He wor a black leather top, cinched up to his neck with crimson thread. His pants were black denim, and were quite tight, leaving room for breathing and moving, but not enought to get caught upon a brach or protruding rock. His hair was black, a chunk of bangs flopped over his right eye. Lifting his head, his face was illuminated briefly, pale skin and mismatched blue and green eyes. They were slanted, and his thick lips tight in a frown.

The tips of his raven hair was a snow white, and his eyes darted back and forth, his ex
pression that of a cornered animal. He lowered his head and took a breath, taking off like a shot, feet dancing over the ground with almost inhuman swiftness. Taking shelter in the doorway of an abandoned house. Tax collectors pounded by, with shouts of, "He went this way!" and "We have to catch him!" This teenage boy's name was Dravius, and he had been running from collectors his whole life. He cupped hi hands around his mouth and howled, imitating the pitched tones of a black wolf, feared and revered in forests. As he lowered his head, he crouched down, baring slightly pointed teeth.

His manner was much like a wolf's as well. The short time he had been forced to spend in a school, after his father had been  executed, had been torture. Always teased, always ostracized. He snarled to himelf, and backed farther into the house, sitiing down by the wall with a soft thump. His father....He sighed and closed his slanted eyes. Marvie had been the only one to take care of him, the only one not to run away... Of course, Marvie was not his real father, but better than that wine soaked idiot. He started as a thin shape slipped into the wreck, and he got to all fours and growled softly. THen he glanced away as the wolf, for of course it was, lay down near Dravius.

((Nice. I quite like your style, but it needs to be a bit longer. Ideally, it should include some snippets of your character's personality, history, and social status, along with their appearance. It should also involve your character recieving the note and going to the meeting place.

Ugh. I really should've said all that in the first post, shouldn't I? Sorry.

Edit: Nevermind, it seems it was a WIP anyway. Nice so far!))

Molly's eyes flew open.
She sat up with a jerk, deep blue eyes stretched wide as if trying to see something in the fathomless dark.
What was that? She thought, struggling with her covers, which had apparently tangled around her during a restless sleep. She carefully set her feet on the cold floor of her room and stood, not daring to breathe, in case she missed the sound that had woken her up just minutes ago.
Someone was in my room. She thought with a certainty that terrified her. Someone was here. While I slept. And they left... this.
Molly held up the wax-sealed envelope, staring at it warily. Obviously it was for her. And important, too, for someone to have broke into her house during the very depths of night and leave it here.
Her moment of hesitation pa.ssed, and Molly tore the seal off with eager fingers. She quickly unraveled the note inside, opened the curtain and read by moonlight;

I have left this note in hopes that you will meet me, the evening after you discover this note, at ___ park.
There will be others.

There was no signiature. Not that she'd been expecting one from such a mysterious letter. As she remembered the last words, she felt the hairs on her neck stand on end. 'There will be others.'
"Creepy." Molly mumbled out loud, tucking a lock of straight, dark red and black hair behind her right ear. It was a habit of hers when she was nervous. Molly shoved the paper into her pocket and moved to close the blinds.
A horrible sound made her jump back, yelping with fright. It was the howling of a black wolf, one of the most feared creatures in the forests surrounding the town. Molly stood beside her bed, hands clutched to her chest, trembling.
With a sudden motion she drew the blinds together, then yanked the covers overtop of her as if blocking out everything that had happened. The suffocating closeness of the blankets was comforting, and she promptly fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

***

There was, oddly, no one there.
How... anticlimatic. Molly thought with a frown.
She'd expected something- a cloaked figure maybe, or a gang waiting for her as she crested the hill. None of that. It was empty save for a few dying oaks that poorly shaded the park from the setting sun.
As the letter requested she had gone to the meeting place the evening after, intent on finding the sender of the note. And yet, why was no one there?
It's probably for the best. It was stupid to come in the first place. Molly thought, ma.ssaging one of her tensed shoulders. That's right, just go meet some stranger and his friends at night. Smart.
Even as she thought it, she wasn't convinced. She couldn't quite shake the feeling that meeting this person was important somehow. Heavier than that, however, was the feeling that something was going to happen. And, despite her scare last night, she'd willingly followed that suspicion.
Molly clutched the crumpled letter in one hand.  No. Nothing has happened yet. But it will soon.
Molly stared at the bleeding sun and waited.

(( -kicks that part- D: Sorry about that, it wasn't very good. At least, I didn't like it. I think my word choice was off. But oh well. ^^; ))

I love it. 8D accepted, accepted, and double accepted!

If you feel like adding a little more, maybe involving her going to the park the next evening, that would be good, just so we all end up in the same place.

But I still love it. >w<))

Dravius shook his head slightly, lifting his bangs from his eye and looking around suspiciusly. A stream of moon light flowed through a crack in the ruined house's shell, pooling on the floor and illuminating a small letter. Frowning, Dravius slowly got to his feet, keeping his eyes on the puddle of light. Picking up the letter, he turned it slowly this way and that, inspecting the wax seal and, flicking it open with one finger, unravled the note inside, squinting hard and silently forming the owrds to deciper what it said.

I have left this note in hopes that you will meet me, the evening after you discover this note, at ___ park.
There will be others.

Others...Dravius thought, letting the envelope flutter from his hand to the floor as he turned the note in his hands. Like him? Please! He tossed the note aside and sat down next to the wolf again, but he found his eyes drwn inexplicably to the letter, as if was taunting him. Snarling he thought to himself, I might go, just for a bit. But I'm not leaving Torak behind. He got up, and making a small uff! The wolf got to it's feet and shook out it's pelt.

******************************

Looking at the ever-sinking sun, Dravius cursed himself again, and stepped into tthe park. He saw a lone figure, sillhueted(Sp?) against the red sky. It seemed to be female, and facing away from him. He crept closer, keeping his fingers entwined in Torak's thick mane of fur. Dravius took a deep breath, and tapped the girl gently on the shoulder.

((You don't have to wait for someone else, but it'd probably be easier on them if you waited.

If you do decide to make a post, (which is fine),  make sure you don't go too far along with the Rp. (Maybe one more post each and that'd be about it.) Rilia probably won't turn up until another person comes, but if we don't get any interest in, say, the next 24 hours, I'll just start it up and have Rilia either carry or hatch the last egg. I don't want you guys to lose interest before we've even begun, and it'd work fine with three people.))

(( All right then. c: ))

Molly heard the intake of breath before feeling the touch on her shoulder. Even so, she spun immediately, hands raised in front of her to protect her center. On her wild turn she managed to whack Dravius on the arm.
Molly stumbled back, looking a bit scared. She swallowed, then stared into Dravius's eyes, trying to seem fierce. "You're the one who broke into my room last night, right?" She asked, lowering her arms when he made no move to attack. "What do you want from me?"

Dravius yelped, jumping back as if stung. His face was dimly light by the sinking sun, and he seemed bewildered that Molly was staring directly at him. He fidgeted, and every so often, he wold flick his gaze into the distance, then back to just below her eyes. Then he clenched his hands and snapped, "Why are you staring at me? Don't you know that you do not stare at a wolf?" He gently flipped his bangs back from his face, exposing his misatched eyes. Torak lifted his nightmare-black lips from gleaming white fangs, a growl growing in his thraot. Dravius noticed with a start and gently pulled Torak's ear, uttering a sharp uff! and pulling him away from Molly.

Molly stared at him for a moment, unsure of how to react. "I don't care about wolf customs." She finally snapped, tucking her hair behind her ear. "I'm a human, so get used to ours. I just want to know what..."
She trailed off, noting the look in Dravius's strangely coloured eyes. "You're... you're not the person who sent me that note?" She asked, blinking. She rocked back and forth on her heels, carefully slanted away from the wolf. Realizing that she still had the note held tightly in her fingers, she lifted it up and unraveled it.
"I got this letter last night, telling me to come to this park. Did you get one too?" She relaxed slightly, thinking back to the ominous words, 'There will be others.' They could have meant this man and his wolf. And if they didn't, at least she wasn't alone here.
