Zera couldn't stand the mysterious air about him. It irked her, but she had a feeling that he was hiding something. Her eyes flashed as she began to speak rather loudly. "So you're just some.... Mysterious man that comes to kidnap me? What are you going to do with me, anyways, hm?" She put her arms over her chest, her feet planted firmly on the ground. She wasn't going anywhere.
"And I've been around some of the ugliest peasants you could ever see. You'd think that they'd crawled out from some giant pile of chicken feces, but I tolerated them. Your appearance will not bother me." She blinked, and pulled her braid over her shoulder.

Zaniell examined her stance, so defensive. It almost made him laugh. Of course, she had every single right to be angry; he was shocked she wasn't more scared. Most of the others had been extremely scared... He admired her persistence of showing himself, though the effort was futile. He wouldn't show himself unless she threatened to injure herself. But, who was he kidding? Princesses don't harm themselves. What a ridiculous statement.
"I can't tell you what my plans are, Princess, you should know that," Zaniell said coolly, keeping his arms at his sides. It was getting light out, and though the sun wouldn't kill him, it would weaken him.
"And I do not fear you'll find me ugly," Zane said, his voice still even. "But I am going inside to make you a fire. You can stay out here in the cold, or come inside and eat by a fire." With that, Zaniell spun on his heels and walked into the cottage, leaving the door open behind him.

Zera was flustered by how he wasn't affected by her tone. She was even angrier that he wouldn't tell her what he planned to do with her. Perhaps he would keep her here for a few days and then let her go? Maybe he would make her write her own ransom letter. She shivered at the thought. She was brought back into reality by his voice.
She noted that her gown wasn't the thickest or warmest garment, and she cursed herself for choosing such an unpractical gown to sleep in. She was so tempted to just turn on her heels and start walking away, but she had no clue where she was. She'd slept the whole way here, and she didn't know how to get back to the palace in return.
And she still didn't know what he looked like.
She pursed her lips together and followed her captor into the cottage, taking her hair down from its braid as she did so. Her long locks were beginning to cause her head to ache when they were in the braid. She yawned and rubbed her neck. She hadn't slept in the most comfortable position on the way here, but she wouldn't complain. At least her captor let her sleep.
She lingered by the door after she closed it, not really knowing what to do.

Zaniell kept on his cloak, though rolled up his sleeves as he built the fire, showing off his muscular arms and the tattoos that littered them. He sensed, and smelled, the Princess enter the cottage, close the door then hesitate. At least she had the common sense to come in the cottage and not run away, especially in her attire.
Zane grabbed the flints from above the fireplace and struck them together three times before the kindling and paper caught fire. Gently, he blew so the flames engulfed the wood as well. Without looking back, Zaniell said to the Princess, "There's plenty of seating, chairs with padding and blankets in the room." He paused and glanced at the yawning figure who was rubbing her neck. Silently, he cursed himself for making her so uncomfortable.
Zane slowly got up and faced the girl, pulling his white shirt sleeves back to his wrists, covering both his arms and his tattoos. "If you are still tired, there is a bed in the other room, complete with different clothing, if you wish to change." He paused and looked at the girl again. He knew he'd have to feed soon, which meant leaving her alone. He wish he didn't have to, for fear of her running. "If you wish to stay up, tell me what you'd like to eat so I can make it."

The princess watched him as he worked. His arms worked, striking the two flint stones together to make a spark, which lit the tinder in the fire place. His arms were muscular, she noticed, and covered in tribal tattoos that danced around the muscles there that were hidden under the skin. She inwardly snarled at herself for staring.
Zera took a seat in a nearby chair, which had a nice cushion on it, and wrapped a blanket around herself, allowing the fabric to cover her legs, only her neck upwards showing. She pulled her legs in close, her knees somewhere near her chest. When he faced her, she gave him a blank stare.
"You must think I'm insane if you believe I'll sleep or eat anything here." Her eyes drifted to where she guessed his would be at. She could vaguely see them there, but she couldn't tell what color they were, and she couldn't see his facial features. She pulled the blanket around herself tighter.

A wicked grin that Zera couldn't see whipped across Zaniell's face. "Princess," He said softly, always keeping his voice calm, "If I wanted to kill you, I would have. Don't think I'd bring you here only to poison your food or put deadly spiders in your sheets." He grinned at the thought of having to rescue the Princess from a harmless spider.
"So, I must ask you again," Zane started, still looking at the Princess, "What would you like to eat?" He paused, looked at the kitchen which was a small room across the one he was in. "Unless, you'd like to either die of exhaustion or starvation, though I would not recommend those. My lord wishes for you to stay alive."

Zera clenched her jaw, her fists balling up the blanket. She wanted so badly to just hit this ruffian. Slap him upside the head or something, but she knew that it would be a losing fight. She saw the muscles on those arms. She felt him carrying her with little effort.
She took a deep breath in, and debated giving into what this man wanted. However, she wanted to give him the hardest time he could possibly have. He took her from her home. Who said she had to cooperate now? She didn't recall anyone saying that.
"When I said that you must be crazy to think that I would sleep or eat here, I meant insane." Her grey eyes stared him down, and she let a challenging smirk spread slightly on her face, though it wasn't overly noticeable. "I will not eat anything here. I will not sleep here. You, Sir Ruffian, may go cook up whatever concoction you want. I am not going to swallow one drop of it."

Zaniell nearly scoffed at her, though he was sure that wouldn't go over well. "If you refuse to eat, then I will have to force you... But only after you are so weak from hunger that you cannot live a spoon to feed yourself." If the Princess wanted to be trouble, he'd let her. As long as she was returned alive, he'd get what he wanted. It didn't matter how weak she was, or what state of mind she was in. Alive meant payment.
Zaniell pulled a short, but very sharp, dagger from his belt and began to absentmindedly clean underneath his fingernails as he stared at the fire. It should frighten him, and Zane knew it, but it didn't. Fire, being one of the few things that could kill him, fascinated Zaniell more than anything, except maybe this Princess sitting near him. He wondered where she got her headstrong nature; was it her mother, or her father?
"Princess, tell me," Zane said quietly. "Are you an only child, or do you have brothers who will inherit the crown?"

Zera was interested in how he would 'force' her to eat. She shook her head. As if he thought he could hold her down and force food down her throat. She would do no such thing. No such thing would be done to her, too.
However, him pulling the dagger out frightened her. She quieted, and stilled, her eyes caught on the light reflecting off of the sharp metal blade. She swallowed the lump in her throat, and felt a cold sweat begin to form on the back of her neck, pulling her hair over her shoulder to try and cool the thin skin there off.
She sniffled slightly as she realized what she'd gotten herself into. Or rather what she'd been dragged into. He had weapons. He could hurt her. She could die. No matter how much this man was being payed, every person had their limits. And his limits could be long or short.
His question broke her from her scared daze and she looked at him. "My mother is unable to have any more children. I was her first, and her last." She kept her head up, though. She didn't want him to think she was scared. That would just give him power over her.

Zaniell watched the Princess' reaction from the corner of his eye. Of course, he had no intention of using the knife on her. First of all, it would leave marks, and second of all, he had more effective weapons than a simple little dagger. The Princess sniffed, breaking Zane from his daze. He had to be scaring her now.
As Zaniell processed what Zera had said, he silently slipped the dagger back into his belt. Since the Princess refused to eat, Zaniell had no reason to go to the kitchen. Instead, he sat in a chair across from Zera, though they weren't close at all. He leaned his elbows onto his knees and thought for a moment.
"I wonder what type of queen you shall make," Zane said, more to himself than her. "Confidence and a temper usually make an arrogant ruler... A rash one who will go into war easily. A calculating, beautiful one doesn't make decisions lightly and uses her looks to her advantage. An untrusting, head strong one makes a good leader with many close friends, but along with that comes enemies."
Zane paused and looked up at the Princess. "You have all these qualities, from what I've seen. Confidence, an untrusting and calculating demeanor, beauty, and good leading skills. It begs the question... Who are you to marry? And will your husband allow you to rule with him, or under him?" Zaniell mused at the thought.

Zera visibly relaxed once the dagger was put up, though she was still tense, knowing the weapon was on him. Her eyes watched him as he moved, and felt chills arise on her arms when he sat the way he did.
What was he up to? He was bound to start asking questions or go rambling off on some long speech. Zera just knew it. She had that feeling in her bones.
When he did go off on the speech that Zera had anticipated, she clenched her fists. What nonsense was he speaking of? She felt her fingernails dig into the flesh of her palm, drawing just a tiny amount of blood. She noticed the pain and stopped the action.
"What do you care of who I marry and if he will rule with me or if I will rule under him?" She returned a question with a question.

Zane shook his head at her question, knowing fully that he couldn't answer that. Why did he care? There were plenty of reasons, none of which she could know. Ever. That could ruin the whole point of his taking her.
Suddenly, a sharp metallic scent wafted in the air. It stung Zaniell's nose and made him salivate, his stomach turning over. She drew blood, and that was a very, very bad move. The vampire felt his fangs extracting and he knew he had to get out of there, fast.
"There's bandages in the bathroom," Zane said as he quickly, almost inhumanly, retreated towards the door, away from the blood. He opened the door, nearly taking it off the hinges and escaped to the stable and the horse. He hoped the smell of that would take him away from the blood.
The vampire sighed and leaned his head against the side of his stallion. "Oh, Bear," He whispered softly, "What am I going to do? I don't know if I'll be able to control myself next time..."

Zera watched as the man shook his head. She was now fully frustrated. Her hands stung, too. And then something seemed to almost startle the man. It all happened so quickly that she thought he had nearly vanished.
She heard the door roughly open, the edge of it hitting the wall, and her captor flee from the room. What had just happened? Why did he flee? Did he have to go speak with someone? She growled in frustration, throwing the blanket off of herself and excusing herself to the privy.
She wrapped her hands with the strips of fabric that were used as bandages and looked at herself in the intricate mirror hanging above the washbowl. Her own grey eyes stared her down. After a good few seconds of blank staring, Zera exited the room back to the main room.
She didn't wrap up in the blanket this time. Her arms ended up being crossed over her chest, her face towards the fire.

Zaniell pulled his hood off and brushed his brown hair out from his eyes. The vampire paused. Any pretense he had of showing Zera what he looked like changed at that moment. He could feel the change in his eyes, the way everything sharpened like he was a hawk, instead of a human. The color red... Everywhere.
Sighing, the vampire pulled his hood back up, hiding his crimson eyes, along with the rest of his features. He clenched his fists as he walked back to the cottage. He paused at the doorway, the scent of blood still in the air. He noticed that her hand was bandaged though.
"Don't hurt yourself again." Zaniell growled to the Princess. He had his arms crossed over his chest, and he wasn't about to take any more chances. "We don't have the supplies to keep you healthy if you insist on being a pain."

Zera had been staring at the fire for a while when she finally heard a voice. It was in such a growlish tone that it made her jump slightly, startled. And then she saw that her captor had returned.
"How did you even know that I hurt myself, anyway?" The question had hit her. "I didn't draw much blood." She held her hand up, as if to show him the bandages. She was even angrier when he added something onto his command to not hurt herself.
"You kidnapped me, you filthy fiend! I can be a pain if I want to. And since your lord, or whoever you're working for wants me alive, you can't kill me!" By the time she had finished yelling, her breathing was ragged and her eyes were glaring at the shadows that his Zaniell's face.

Zaniell hadn't thought of that. How could he explain how he knew without exposing himself. He thought for a moment, rubbing his stubbled chin. Then the yelling started. It wouldn't have been so bad, except that Zane had exceptional hearing. He cringed slightly under her voice, though her words were just as bad.
If the circumstances had been different, Zaniell might have found the predicament funny. A filthy fiend? Him? Who would have thought? But, Zane would rather have the Princess fear him as a dangerous human than a harmless vampire.
"You're right, Princess," Zane said casually, still leaning against the door frame. "But there's no reason to shout." He paused, but only for a moment. "Now, if you'll excuse me I need to go feed. Eat! I need to go EAT." Zane inwardly cursed at himself for making such a bad word choice. She had to be suspicious of him now.

Zera's face turned red when he kept his calm. She started shaking, her hands tremulous. She nearly dropped her anger to be replaced with sadness. She would've cried if he hadn't have said such a strange thing.
Feed?
She cocked her head. Did she hear him correctly? He corrected himself, she noted, but it was strange that he made such a strange choice of diction. It was... unusual to hear someone to refer to eating as feeding.
She yawned, still as sleepy as before, and said quietly, "Well then go eat." She turned her back to him. Her voice was shaky. And she was shaking again, her anger slowly being switched with sadness again. She rubbed her eyes as she felt the oncoming slaught of tears slowly begin to roll down her face.

Zaniell watched the Princess for a moment more, hating the fact that she was shaking. Eh, it wasn't his problem anymore. If she was still scared, she had every right to be. "If you're tired, you can sleep in the bed in the other room..." Zaniell repeated after he noticed her yawn. "I'll be back soon, so try and rest."
With that, Zane closed the door and walked to the stable. "Bear," He called, gathering the saddle in his arms. He secured it onto his horse and hopped on with crisp agility. He rode quickly through the forest, leaving the cottage behind him. After quickly riding for about 10 minutes, Zane came across a road and a small caravan selling goods on it. With a small smirk, the vampire knew this was the spot.
Zane spotted a lady fetching water; she was alone. He jumped off Bear, tied his reigns to a tree and walked silently towards the girl. Zane wrapped his arms around the girl and in one swift moment, he broke her neck. He hated feeding them to death. He'd much rather kill, then feed.
Zaniell dragged the girl's body into the trees, then sunk his fangs into her neck. To an alive human, his bites were pleasurable actually. It was a certain 'ingredient' in his saliva that made it so. But, he could never let one live who had been fed off of him. It didn't take long for the body to be drained. Zaniell cursed himself once more when he glanced down at his shirt. He should have been more careful; blood stained multiple places down the collar.

Zera's anger returned when he said that she could sleep. She would not sleep here. No, sir! Her eyes flashed, but when she turned to say something smart to him, he was already gone. She bit her tongue.
She flopped back down onto the chair that had the nice cushion on it and curled into a small ball, wrapping the blanket around herself again. She watched the fire for what seemed like hours, but she knew it was only minutes.
Before she could even realize it, she felt her eyes closing, and she didn't fight the sleep that was to come. She drifted off, her head leaning gently against the arm of the chair, her hair draping across her shoulder.

Zaniell rode his way back to the cottage slowly, thinking about the Princess. He couldn't get her stubborn butt out of his head. That didn't happen. It had happened once before, but he couldn't protect her. He couldn't do anything under his master's control.
By the time Zane reached the cottage, the Princess was sleeping in the chair. She hadn't even moved to the bed. The vampire sighed. Why did she have to be so difficult? Zane's eyes flickered over to the dying fire. It was scorching in the room for him, but for a human, it was starting to get chilly again.
With eyes only on Zera, Zaniell took the change to take off his clock, exposing his chissled features and violet eyes. He rolled up his sleeves and stocked the fire with more wood, trying to warm it up a bit more. After he was satisfied with the result, Zane sat in a chair across from Zera. Feet propped on the table, the vampire soon felt himself nodding off.
