Well.  So.  I had to sort of make up some of the details and take out some of the weirder stuff but this is pretty much how it goes.

There's a school for humans that show potential in excelling in one of the four elements: wind, earth, fire, or water.  They go into this school and there is one section for dorms, each room housing one individual (but enough room for two), however they aren't gender-divided for whatever reason.  There's also a portion for regular school classes (science, math, blah blah etc) and then there are the four altar rooms.  But before I get into those, the school itself is like a giant castle-like structure and has stained glass windows (well there are also normal windows but you know) and it's all a sort of light gray with dark brown roofing.
Now about the altar rooms.  There is the fire altar, water altar, earth altar, and wind altar.  Each is a very large room designated for one of the elements, and students can just dwell and mill around in these altar rooms if they wish to do so, but they cannot go into the area for becoming an elemental of that specific element unless they wish to do just that.  Each altar room is generally the same in layout: when you first enter the large, wooden, double-doors, you come upon a gray brick floor, which spans a little more than a quarter of the room's space.  There are small cylinders that have benches curving around them on that floor so students can sit.  Then it goes into a sea of something that represents the element.  At the front of the room there is a large, tall chair, upon which the 'goddess'/'god' of the element sits (just the person who's a pro of it, not really a goddess, but like the absolute best sage of an element), and then around it is very decorative tall stuff that look like two other smaller chairs but they have interesting ribbing and everything's in the shades of the element's color.  Then, in front of the chair (but at a smaller height), a ways away, there are two small areas for one person per each to stand on.  Behind them is a narrow corridor leading down to steps that lead to the gray brick floor.  Those two spots are separated by a round pool of something the element represents and then that also has a waterfall (if possible) going into the sea mentioned before of the same thing.  On each side of the two standing-spots, there are small horizontal pools-into-waterfalls full of the same ob

Now, students that show potential for an element do not know which element is their chosen one.  You can always revoke an element's power, but it is greatly preferred that you get it right the first time.  Through personality and careful studying of yourself and of an element's properties and what their elemental is generally like, one can find an element that 'calls' to them and feels right for them.  Then they go to the altar room of that element and become that elemental.  To do so, they go into one of the standing-spots and take the ob
ject from one of the small horizontal spots by them and toss it into the middle pool saying, "Does *insert element here* accept me?"  Then the god/goddess will recieve an answer from above (the mysterious element spirits) and either say 'yes' or 'no' and if 'yes', give the elemental the powers of that element they 'applied' for.  Then they learn how to control that element and everything.
The fire altar's ob
ject is coal.  Coals are on the small spots and the pool and the sea are of coals lit on fire.
The water altar's ob
ject is water.  So everything is water. (to toss it in you just cup it in your hand and toss.)
The earth altar's ob
ject is grass.  Blades of short grass not attached to anything are in the small spots and the pool and sea are of tall grass.
The wind altar's ob
ject is blue calcite (a gem that represents wind/air, tle="Blue Calcite" href="http://crystal-cure.com/pics/boulder-bluecalcite.jpg" target="_blank">click here for a picture).  So everything is blue calcite, yet the pool and sea have bigger pieces amongst them.
To revoke an element, go to the element's god/goddess and say, "I wish to revoke my devotion to *insert element here*.  I hope its spirits are not angered."  And then the god/goddess says 'yes' or 'no' after recieving an answer from the spirits.

Nyehhh I told you it was complicated xD;  I'll probably be making sketches of most of this because my describing abilities are limited.

Oh yay then! :D  The romance part would be like... just students interacting o3o  Do you want one character each or..?
