"I just had a feeling there was something important here that I was forgetting; I get the feeling a lot, actually, and it usually leads to nothing. But I decided to check it out nevertheless." Blinking, he glanced sideways at the few boxes piled on the wall. He had almost nothing to his name, including furniture. "Why do you live in this little town, Sinclair?"

 ~

"Yeah," Cala agreed. "It reminds me of my own house, actually. It will look much better after we're all done fixing it up, though." She slid into the clearing, footsteps soft, trying to make sure she didn't wake up David or Markus*. She knew they were light sleepers, and had no intention of waking them until it was a necessity. There was a cobblestone path that she and Jake had made themselves leading to the small house; she followed it, waving at Eden to do the same.

Sinclair looked around, as if he were expecting to see the entire town around him. He paused at Basil's question, eyes stopping on the boxes against the wall, before looking back at the other vampire and shrugging. "I don't know," he answered, a smile creeping across his face. "Who looks in a small town, right? No one. As cliché as it might sound, it's better for vampires to hide in small towns. Besides...it's okay around here."

~

As Cala started into the clearing, Eden watched her for a moment before blinking out of her stare and walking after her with a small smile. "Looks pretty nice already," she said, making sure to walk just as carefully as Cala was walking. Her eyes strayed to look at the other males on the porch, brow furrowing at them. They were probably walking quietly to avoid waking them up...

"It seems like a nice place to live... for a short while, anyways." Basil replied calmly, flopping down on a beat-up brown leather couch sitting against one wall of the near-empty room. Judging by the pillow and blankets draped over one end, this had to be the place he also slept. He waved Sinclair over with a polite smile. "Sit down. Sorry if it's uncomfortable; I don't have much else."

~

Cala slipped, foot landing in a large puddle with a loud splash. Markus, having the better hearing of the two, stirred and started to sit up. She swallowed, cursing herself thoroughly on the inside before plastering a smile to her face. Calling out a greeting, which woke David as well, Cala stopped walking. "I have someone to introduce you to," she told them, waving a hand in Eden's direction. "Her name is-"

She was cut off by David, which was to be expected, as he rose and pointed a finger accusingly in her direction. "Thought I told you not to bring no more strangers 'round here, Cal." Before she could answer, he stared at Eden. "You one of us, doll, or are you jus' lookin' for trouble?" He waited in silence for her response.

Sinclair accepted to the other's invitation to sit with a polite smile, and then took the spot next to him, facing him. "It's quite fine," he answered, chuckling a little. "Uncomfortable reminds me of my past." He grinned, then, making a joke that most vampires could relate to. However, it disappeared quickly when he remembered that Basil couldn't remember much at all.

"Ah, well, so," Sinclair said, pulling his gaze away. "Basil. Have you met any other immortals?" he asked. He'd actually been wondering.

~

Eden had followed Cala with a more careful step, as she walked after her which meant that she knew where not to step. When the other werewolves roused, she moved to Cala's side, though, startled by a sudden accusation. His manner of speaking was rather...southern. It actually made Eden wrinkle her nose in distaste.

"If by one of 'you' you mean werewolf, then yes," Eden answered, turning up her nose. "I am one of you. And, I'm not looking for trouble."

Basil thought for a moment, eyes distant and hazy. "A few," he recalled, pulling himself back into the present. Sinclair's presence in the room was overwhelming, making him feel oddly out of place; perhaps it was just the fact that he was an older vampire? "Younger than I am, though, so they attacked instantly." He took no notice of his joke, only a half-hearted smile showing that he had actually heard Sinclair. With a puzzled ex
pression, he glanced sideways at his new friend. Or, well, almost friend. "Are there things other than vampires?"

~

He laughed, a harsh sound that Cala had grown used to. "That's what they all say, doll. How 'bout you really tell me whatn' the world you're here for?" He nudged Markus, muttering something to his second-in-command. He wore a grim ex
pression as he disappeared inside, leaving David alone on the porch.

Cala's loud voice cut through the silence. "Honestly, David; you're such a stick in the mud sometimes. You sent me to the park to find whoever was lingering around here, and I found her. What else did you expect me to do with her?"

His answer made her shiver, and shift closer to the larger girl protectively. "Kill her, perhaps; or if you were too nice you coulda' jus' chased her back to her momma. We dun' need no more werewolves 'round these parts, Cala; you know what happened to us last time there was a whole flock of us 'wolves."

"A few," Sinclair repeated with a toothy smile. He'd been attacked lots of times by younger vampires, even if he announced that he was a friend, not a foe, before they even got the chance to pounce. It seemed as thought younger vampires thought that all vampires were enemies. They weren't, actually.

Sinclair nodded, answering with an almost enthusiastic tone of voice: "Yes, of course," He shifted in his seat, moving so he could look at the other without so much difficulty. "You need something to balance the universe out, right? So, if there's vampires, there's werewolves."

~

Eden immediately took to being defensive, and scowled at the other werewolf. "I'm here because I found a cute little house to live in, and I bought it." she growled, narrowing her muddy green eyes. How rude of this man to automatically *censored*ume she was a bad person! Actually, she wanted to slap him, but that wouldn't help her case at all.

She grit her teeth at the mention of her possible murder, and her brain quietly took note of how Cala had stepped closer to her, as if she wanted to protect her. "I'm not hurting anyone," she said, "and I live here now. I have the right to."

"Werewolves?" Basil said, voice hardly above a whisper. A shiver ran through him, and the fear he felt was like a tidal wave; perhaps he'd been attacked in the past, and didn't remember? "Are there any around here?" he asked, avoiding Sinclair's eyes so he wouldn't be ridiculed for his sudden fright. His gaze traced the shape of something imprinted on the ceiling that looked like a handprint. A handprint on the ceiling? How odd.

~

Cala glanced at Eden, glad that she seemed able to speak up for herself; though, she knew better than anyone, she wouldn't be wise to take the fight to a physical level with David. "David," she said, voice tinged with exasperation, "I'm tired of being the only girl werewolf around. Ever since Danic-"

"-Don't you say her name!" he bellowed, eyes blazing angrily. "I don't wanna hear one more thing 'bout her no more, Cala."

"Ever since Danica died," Cala continued savagly, "I've been all alone with you boys and I'm more than a little sick of it. Don't you miss being surrounded by friends? Don't you miss how lively the house used to be?" Her voice stayed strong even though on the inside she felt like puking. "Eden is staying, and that's final, David. I'm sure Markus and Jake will take my side of the argument."

David sniffed, looking as if he wanted to strangle Cala. "Fine. She can come 'round here for a little while, Cal, but not permanently. An' she better not get into no trouble, or I'll have her head faster than you can say 'Bareback Rodeo'." He turned on his heel and disappeared into the house.

"That went well," Cala said flatly, glancing sideways at Eden.

Shrugging, Sinclair answered, "Not that I know of," His eyes watched Basil's, following his gaze, as he could tell that he was averting his eyes. Although he didn't really see what he was looking at, he decided that it didn't matter. "If there are, they're doing a damn good job hiding themselves. I usually sniff them out pretty quickly, but," He shrugged again. "some are smarter than others."

"Why?" Sinclair asked, cocking his head. "Did you want to meet one? Or are you scared of them all of a sudden?"

~

What could've killed a werewolf? Eden didn't think a werewolf could be killed easily, so whatever killed that other werewolf girl must've been pretty strong. However, she was glad that Cala had fought for her well enough to earn her a little time to stay, and a little time to earn David's trust.

"You're telling me," Eden said, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry for getting you in trouble, by the way..." She considered asking about Danica, letting her head drop so she could stare at her feet. But, she didn't want to offend her one friend.

"I'm not scared," Basil insisted, "I just have a feeling that werewolves aren't going to be on top of my list of things I want to see." He shrugged, looking at Sinclair once he'd managed to shove his emotions back down into the back of his mind. "What do you mean, 'sniff them out'? Do you like, hunt them down and kill them or something?" He added a shaky laugh on the end, as if attempting to make it a joke, even though he was just honestly curious.

~

"No problem," Cala replied, regaining her sunny smile. Dark curls bouncing, she began to walk towards the house again, footsteps still silent. "You'd be surprised how often I get myself into trouble." She waved at Eden, not looking over her shoulder as she did so. "Come on; I might as well show you around while David's sulking in his room. He always does that when I get my way. Besides, I'm sure Markus would like to meet you."

"Hunt them down..." Sinclair repeated, furrowing his brow. "That seems a little barbaric, doesn't it? I suppose I would've when I was younger, but now I think that it's better to try and be civilized before you have to attack and kill. So, no, not really. I mean that I find them and take precautions to avoid a fight. Young werewolves are not as berserk as young vampires, so they usually avoid me, too."

~

Eden smiled, starting after Cala again. For a moment, she pondered just how much trouble Cala had gotten herself into. She didn't seem like the kind of girl who would be in trouble at all. "Markus," she said, glancing around. "That was the other werewolf with David at first, right? Or is there another?" she asked curiously.

"Werewolves," Basil repeated, as if he were in a trance. "Tell me more about them, please. Do they only change forms when it is the full moon? Or when they get very angry? Can they change whenever they feel the need to?" He leaned against his hand, arm propped up against the arm of the couch. "They sound fascinating."

~

"Yup," Cala chirped, porch steps creaking eerily as she stepped onto the first one. "Markus is second in command, and the last of us here." She looked sad as she glanced backwards at Eden. "There's only four of us, and you, around here. There was at least twenty of us before, but..." Drifting off the subject, she pushed the door open with a quick twist of the knob and wandered inside.

The room inside was beautiful, and it was evident that Cala had been the one to decorate. The walls were light green, and there were white couches pushed up against opposite walls, and a large screen TV occupying one corner of the room. Pictures were hung on the empty wall, a gl*censored* coffee table taking up the center of the room and Markus was sprawled out on the couch to her right, Jake on the left, the television blaring whatever football game was on at the moment. Both boys turned to stare at Eden, waiting for her to say something, ignoring Cala completely as they entered the room.

( Naww! D8 You're not even fail! )

Exhaling noisily, hair even floating up a bit, Sinclair thought for a minute. "I always figured," he began, leaning back into his seat to get a little more comfortable. "that it was the young werewolves to shifted when they were angry, and the older ones shift whenever the hell they want." he explained, and crossed one leg over the other. "However, I cannot say anything for sure. If I told you I knew exactly, I would be lying. I've had werewolf friends in the past, and all seemed rather loyal as friends and peaceful when there was peace. They weren't monstrous things, like us," Sinclair almost smiled at that, "but they could be. It just depended on what side of theirs you were on."

~

Cala kept drifting into the pack subject, and then drifting out. Eden had already suspected something had gone wrong, from the very first time she did such a thing, but now she was really curious. Despite her curiosity just begging to be tapped, she didn't ask a thing. Instead, she admired the room they entered with a half-opened mouth.

"It's lovely," she breathed, turning to Cala with a smile. "I'm sure you decorated this room, didn't you, Cala?" Eden wouldn't expect a male to have done such a swell job.

"Nothing like I've read in books, then," Basil replied with a half-hearted smirk. "Are their bites contagious? Like, if they bite a human, will they become a werewolf too, or is it a genetic trait?" Then, he added on with a red face, "I just like to know things, that's all; you could call me an information addict. I like to know as much about everything as I can." He grinned, beginning to twirl a strand of his hair between his index finger and thumb. "One of many quirks and odd habits I have, I guess."

~

"I've decorated every room in the house, except for each of the boys' rooms; Danica helped me, of course, but I did most of the work." Cala declared, sounded proud of her achievement. "Now come and sit down, Eden, so we can get the last of our introductions out of the way." She shot a dirty look at both Jake and Markus, both sitting upright to make room for the girls. She took a seat next to Jake, who seemed both annoyed and amused at the same time.

"She's got us on a short leash, that one," Markus teased, tilting his head towards Cala. His eyes were sharp, studying Eden carefully, but friendly at the same time. "I'm Markus; I see you've met David. I'm very sorry about that. He hasn't always been a total jerk, you know."

( They should totally fight, the vampires and werewolves. eue Because, you know. o.o They're vampires...and they're werewolves.
See my logic? 8D!? )

Sinclair shrugged lightly. "I'm the same way," he answered with a teeth-revealing smile, and then added, "and, I suppose they're not like the books portray them, but, hell, I don't know much about them." He laughed, and then proceeded to answer Basil's question.

"Not quite sure," he said, some light making his eyes glitter momentarily when he moved his head. "I think it's both, but biting's more common? I'd think that lots of werewolves go around snapping their jaws at people. It's either they don't or do."

~

Eden grinned, looking around again. Cala must've had a sort of sixth sense for decorating. "Pretty amazing," she said, and then glanced from seat to seat when Cala told her to sit down. She felt rather uncomfortable, sitting next to either of them, but she wasn't going to refuse Cala. That would be rude.

Carefully, she took the remaining seat next to Markus. A smile immediately brightened her face, and she said, "Well, that's quite all right," She giggled, and almost stuck her tongue out at either of the boys. "I think Cala's got me covered." She gave her a thumbs-up, winking as well.

{ Sounds like a plan. oUo /already imagining it/ }

{And I just realized that Basil lives next to Cala. I used the same street, and said that he lived next to an elderly couple. Cala lives with an elderly couple... o3o Whoops. }

"Hm," Basil said in response, arching one eyebrow. "I'd imagine they're rather... territorial, as well? Perhaps it's a good thing there aren't any werewolves about, then. I'd hate to get in a quarrel the first week I'm here." He grinned, fangs glinting, and then paused and adopted a frown instead. "How rude of me... did you want anything to drink?" He thought, longingly, of his favourite drink. French Vanilla coffee spiked with blood. In fact, he had a pot of coffee brewing in the kitchen, and the last of his blood stores in the fridge.

He started to get up, waving for Sinclair to follow him into the kitchen.

~

Cala smiled back, shooting her a thumbs-up. She could hear some sort of loud rock and roll music blasting from David's room, upstairs. She ignored, as she usually did, but Jake rose and left the room without saying anything. "I know you probably have a house of your own," she said, grinning,  "but it's customary for you to pick a room in the house and decorate it any way you like. There's three upstairs, a couple on this floor and about five downstairs in the basement." Then she paused for a moment.

"I can show you my room, if you'd like. I'd offer the boys as well, but David's is occupied, Markus is a complete pig, and Jake has 'privacy issues'. "

( Yus. eue
Andd. xD Doesn't haaave to bee. )

Sinclair nodded slowly, thinking back to a past experience. A hand settled at the bottom of his rib cage, touching the smaller bone there. It hadn't been pleasant the first time he'd wandered into werewolf territory. However, he'd ended up with a good friend. "Yes, I'd hate that, too," he replied absentmindedly, and then looked up as Basil rose to his feet.

"That's quite all right," Sinclair said, getting to his feet as well. He'd had a meal just the day before, so getting blood wasn't on his agenda for the day. Not only that, but he just wasn't thirsty. "I don't need anything." he added, following Basil anyway.

~

Eden cocked her head slightly to listen to the music, only pulling her attention away from it to listen to Cala. She smiled herself. "That would be nice," she answered, her smile turning sheepish, "but, do you think the other guys–" She paused to jab a thumb in the direction the music was coming from. "–would really like me picking a room and all that?" she asked. After all, she didn't really want to intrude on whatever it was they were dealing with. The other occupants of the house didn't really seem up to welcoming a new werewolf in town.

Basil only smiled, pouring himself a cup of coffee. He found that it calmed his nerves and cleared his mind; only when he drank large quantities did he become hyperactive and risk attacking any humans around. Caffeine had odd effects on vampires, it seemed. "I'm glad I met you, Sinclair," he informed him as he stirred blood into his drink. "I was a little worried at first that I'd be alone out here, in the middle of nowhere. Seems being a vampire is very lonely. It's nice to know that...maybe, someday, I might have a friend somewhere." He smiled, momentarily, before taking a sip from the mug he was holding.

~

"He'll get over it," Cala chirped, obviously referring to David. "Jake seems pleased to have you here; well, pleased by his standards, anyways. Markus is friendly enough to everyone, so he won't be a problem." She hopped off of the couch, landing silently on her feet, posed like a ballerina. "Come on, then; let's go see the masterpiece of a room I sleep in." Without waiting, as usual, Cala took off in the direction of her room, which was in the basement. Her short legs took the stairs two at a time, and only when she reached the bottom did she look back to see if Eden was still there.

Returning Basil's smile, Sinclair watched Basil stir his drink, taking a moment to relate with what the other vampire had said. "Quite," he said suddenly, startling even himself. "Quite lonely, it can be." he finished, agreeing with Basil. His gaze flickered away, tracing back memories in his head to how lonely he'd felt as a new vampire in a familiar yet strangely unfamiliar world. It seemed as though he was recalling a lot of things now, having met Basil. The younger vampire reminded him of himself, actually, and the thought quirked a smile on his lips.

~

Wtih a grin, Eden followed Cala's lead, landing with a thud and in a squat, completely opposite to the manner in which Cala had landed. She raced after Cala, stopping at the top of the stairs to wonder if Cala was going to trip over her own feet. When she was just about to reach the end, Eden skipped down the steps, reaching the bottom herself in no time.

"Where to?" Eden asked excitedly, beaming. She felt like a kid again!
