Mermaids, for centuries they've been a legend. Mythical. Unreal. A story of beauty from within the ocean- astonishing; mesmerizing creatures which could be unmistakable. Yet, no matter how many sightings, none a lucky man to catch one. All of the claimed stories of how a man would be taken into sea, only to be never heard from again, were they just tales? Were they true? Many a pirate doubted such a thing, as none had come across one themselves.

Even though he'd been told they never existed, there was one pirate who wanted nothing more than to capture one. He wanted the gold, the glory. This pirate desired to be the richest dog alive. He vowed to become as such, regardless of the cost.

Though he wanted nothing in the world more than such a creature, he doubted the truth in it himself. It was such a disappointment to know that he'd find questions in what he longed for. Despite this, fate was bestowed on him in a single night. With no real destination, they were letting the sea move them as they'd just completed a successful raid. It was strange, as the ship began to feel as if it were lagging, as if perhaps the ocean was too weak to carry it. The captain made orders to send the anchor into the sea, and much more sudden than he might have expected, it hit the seabed with an ever slight thud.

As soon as they were docked for the night, he didn't bother to devise a plan for travel as the sight of the enormous, jagged rocks before them caught his attention. It was like an underwater island. The small bunches of coral were bright and colorful, giving off light even, as a strange form of algae clung to them like a limpet. He didn't hesitate to explore, and jumped off the ship, swimming to shallow waters. The sight before him, there were no words to express how he felt. How much shock. How his heart beat, as if in slow motion. There, no more than several feet away, lay a struggling creature. One he'd devoted his entire life to.

Name:  Αλκυόνη ( Alkyoni )

Age: Appears to be around 14-17; about 19 years in lifespan

Gender: Appears female, yet is male.

Ethnicity: Born in the Arctic Ocean. Has no true ethnicity. Is of the Merpeople species.

Orientation: Homosexual

Occupation: None

Personality: Normally he is very soft-spoken, unless he is threatened, then of course he will react out of fear. Alkyoni is very welcoming and kind to most strangers ( of his kind ) and won't hesitate to befriend the creatures he shares his home with. Much of his life he lived in a tranquil, equal opportunity home in the Arctic, and because of this, he gained a fair and welcoming upbringing in the world under the Arctic Ocean.

Weapons of Choice: Like many other Merfolk, he has eight, extremely sharp fangs. These fangs can distribute venom, and depending on the nature and genetics of the creature, they can distribute a very fatal bite to a human, or leave them feeling nothing but numbness. In his case, being raised in such an environment where his home rests, his venom is like that of a weak jellyfish, leaving the bite with a throbbing and stinging pain that will soon leave it numb after a bit.

Appearance:  (Not my artwork at all.)

Other(*): Seeing as he is quite far from the Arctic Ocean, the explanation for this is unknown. Perhaps revealed in the story~?

Name: Eugen Sankt

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: German

Orientation: Unknown

Occupation: Captain of his ship, Hades' Deceit

Personality: Eugen is a very controlling figure and in his eyes everything will eventually belong and be ruled by him. Greed is one of his most obvious personality features since he has a bit of an obsession with treasure and any sort of valuable or rare thing he can come upon. Selfish, clever and rude are just a few traits Eugen is known for and also has a habit of comparing himself to God.

Weapons of Choice: Two pistols, one usually found sticking out of his pants next to his lower back and the other shoved in the side of his boots. Most of the time Eugen uses large knives or one of his Scimitars or Cutlasses.

Song to describe: Stinkfist by Tool

Appearance:

Other: His body is covered in several scars varying in size and Rein is his twin brother.
______________________________

Name: Rein Sankt

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: German

Orientation: Unknown

Occupation: Doesn't have a permanent place on the ship, usually he just roams around or hangs out with his brother but sometimes he can be seen helping out in a time of need or danger.

Personality: Rein's personality is similar to his brother's in many ways. One of the differences is that he's not quite as greedy or egotistical as Eugen. Instead he is a bit more carefree and can be found lazily lying around the ship. In a fight, Rein is usually the first one to make a move and tends to get a bit more hyper and excited than he usually is.

Weapons of Choice: Usually he uses anything he can find but his favorite weapons are just about any type of sword or knife.

Song to describe: Jimmy by Tool

Appearance:

Other: None
______________________________

Name: Kaiser Ehrlichmann

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: German

Orientation: Unknown

Occupation: First mate on Eugen's ship

Personality: Kaiser is a very quiet and calm male who usually only raises his voice when he's giving commands to the other crew members. His cleverness and loyalty is what helped him reach first mate, along with his companionship with the captain. Kaiser is a very strategical and smart male who can usually figure a way out in even the most stressful situations. If his temper begins to grow, Kaiser doesn't show it physically other than rubbing his temples and sighing every now and then.

Weapons of Choice: Most of the time he uses Sabres or Cutlasses though it's not rare to see him use a pistol.

Song to describe: Polar Bear by Puscifer

Appearance:

Other: He is a close friend of the captain and his brother since they were younger.

Hades' Deceit rocked softly and calmly in the night as they continued to sail towards somewhere unknown. Several of the men on the ship were enjoying themselves, lazily singing songs as they drank until they could barely walk from one side of the ship to the other. Their last raid went perfectly and there was a good stock of plunder in the back of the ship, hidden in a room at the back of the Captain's quarters. The first mate, Kaiser, was even celebrating a bit as he had a few glasses of rum, sitting at the dining table in the lower part of the ship along with several other drunk crew mates. A slight laugh left him as he watched them dance and stumble over themselves, their laughing echoing out into the night along with their cringing singing.

A large dark, muscular figure could be seen leaning against the side of his ship, examining a few pieces of the gold and other gems he had robbed not long before. The few crew members that were a bit more sober were talking quietly amongst themselves near the front of the ship, gaining a glance from Eugen every now and then. Pushing himself up off the side of the ship, the large figure began to walk towards his quarters, though a slight lag on the ship made him stop. Turning back at the two members of his crew at the front of the ship, he narrowed his eyes and turned to face them from where he was. "One of ye show a leg and swing the lead. The other drop anchor!"

The order was clear and crisp like the night air and the two men glanced at each other before quickly rushing to carry out their new orders, not daring to ask why. When one of the men finished he gave a surprised look at the captain. "Shallow waters captain!!" He spoke from where he was, and it wasn't long before the ship was anchored and members of the crew began to steadily pour out at the feeling of the ship being anchored. Some of them too drunk to realize what had just happened and assumed they were docking for the night.

Kaiser leaned over the side of the ship and narrowed his eyes at the sight of jagged rocks piercing out of the shallow water. "Amazing we didn't hit those.." The figure spoke to himself as he rubbed the back of his neck slightly, glancing at the Captain once he began to speak. "I'm going down to have a look, some of ye more sober careen the ship. Kaiser, ye in command." The large male ordered as he made his way back towards his quarters, opening the door to see a lazy figure sprawled out on the sofa against the wall, a slight snore leaving the similar male as he slept.

Eugen sighed and rolled his eyes at his brother before walking by him and purposely kicking his leg lightly. "Wach auf. Du bist mit mir kommen. Wir haben dockte." The thick German accent hung in the air and his brother groaned as he sat up, his hair slightly messy as he grabbed one of the nearby weapons and began to arm himself, his white baggy shirt hanging loosely off of his muscular frame and he stood, walking out with the shirtless Captain behind him. Both figures ignored the eyes watching them as a few members of the crew began to climb off the ship to carry out the orders that had been given to them, a slight look of disgust on their face once they saw all the mollusks and plant growth on the side of the ship.

The two brothers hit the water with a slight splash, pushing their way through the waist high waters deeper into the underground cave system. The deeper they went the more small lights seemed to swirl around in the water, as if lighting their path for them and soon the lights from the bacteria in the water began to shine off the walls, helping them get sight of where they were. The water barely reached past their ankles in some places while others were up to mid thigh and it wasn't long before they both came upon what seemed like a small island inside the cave system they were now in. The ship could still be seen though it was pretty far off from where they were now and Rein sighed and looked around after climbing onto the small land formation. "There's nothing Eugen, let's just go back." The suggestion was ignored as Eugen let his eyes roam through the water, taking in the sight of all the coral lit up by the algae in the water, searching for anything that could have value.

The light from the full moon reflected in the murky, ocean waters, yet not powerful enough to reach the depths. Tiny jellyfish floated carelessly about the surface, their dim glow adding light to the dark sea. While all seemed calm, it was all for naught as the creature that lay weakly on the reef of the islet felt nothing but pain- and weakness. Panting in distress, the figure rubbed his forehead against the wet sand, the water splashing gently against his face which was scrunched up in pain. His soft, thin fingered hands grasped at the soggy sand, as if trying to climb away from his pain. His eyes closed tightly, thin brows furrowed just before he sat up with a shaky attempt to hold himself up, his shiny ocean-like orbs gazing at what had been causing such discomfort.

Embedded in his scaly flesh was a large harpoon which he couldn't remove due to the barb at the spearhead. The long rope connected to it was severed, the end appearing worn with blades of green sea weed clinging to it loosely. The creature had attempted to pull it from his tail multiple times, which had been a very unwise decision as it caused him more pain the more he tried. It was his only instinct to remove what was making him vulnerable, and not to mention- weak. The wound had stopped bleeding a long time ago, yet that didn't mean that he hadn't lost a good amount of blood. He was grateful that his bloody trail hadn't attracted the attention of many sharks. What sharks he saw, didn't pay attention to him much longer, nor did they try to attack.

With a tired sigh, his tail splashed a bit out of reflex from the now dulling pain of his wound. As he lay his body back onto the soft sandy reef of the small island, he thought about how he'd gotten into such a predicament in the first place. Humans, of course.

They were fishermen, sailors from wherever their land was that they called home. Of course their top priority is to catch food. It's to catch what will drag in gold. They hadn't seen his other half, the half that would identify him as half human. Only what they saw caught their attention. His light beige tail had disappeared into the murky depths below the surface, and they were most certain he'd been something they needed to catch. The harpoon had been powerful, it was amazing that it hadn't pierced through him completely. He was lucky to have gotten away, the rope snapping due to a complication on their part.

Now here he was, laying tiredly on the tiny shore of an island. Gentle, small waves washed over him, ensuring that he wouldn't dry out. Alkyoni opened his eyes once more, not realizing that he'd even closed them and he grit his teeth. Perhaps it was time that he moved on from the little island, as he'd rested up enough. Getting back into the ocean was harder than he thought, as the adrenaline from gaining the wound had slowly ebbed away as he had been resting up. Now it was a sore, dull pain, making it a struggle to get into deep enough water for him to even swim. He splashed about, the movement causing the flower-like plants stuck to the sides of large rocks to close up skittishly.

The sounds of his struggle in the shallow water were loud to his own ears, as the night had been quiet. As he tried to return to sea, he was very unaware of the presence of others on the islet.

Both of the males heads turned towards the sudden sound of splashing on the other side of the islet. The splashes were loud and strong enough to create small ripples throughout the water, some small ones reaching their legs. Their eyes met for a moment before Rein pulled his cutlass free from its sheath, catching Eugen's attention and he grabbed his brother by his shirt to quietly catch his attention and pull him close enough to where he could whisper to him. "Was machst du? Steck dein Schwert weg." His brother narrowed his eyes at the captain and growled. "Was?? Warum?" The brother questioned in a confused tone but his question was only answered by an agitated look from his brother. Rolling his eyes he shoved the blade back into its place and glared at the other male. "Herumgehen. Narr."

Rein began to understand his plan as he was ordered and he turned and quietly made his way around the other side of the islet. The splashing was loud where he was standing and he tried his best to be as silent as possible as he waited for his chance to capture who or whatever was splashing.  It was most likely a large fish that was injured but at least they would get a good meal out of it.

The glowing water swirled around each step he took and the captain stayed close to the small island, if he were to create any ripples it would seem to be bouncing off the land instead of his legs. Turning the corner of the islet, his eyes narrowed at an odd figure, the sight strange to him as he watched the large tail curl and splash several times. Golden-like eyes grew wide and he felt a quick shiver run down his back, as if in disbelief of what he was currently taking sight of before him. Without saying a word his legs carried him closer, no longer caring about whether or not he was making noise, all Eugen could think about was capturing this struggling creature.

A mermaid with dark hair and a large decorated tail lay there before him struggling to get away from the shallows. A large harpoon could be seen sticking out of the figure's tail, the sight was painful to look at and he could only imagine what the creature was experiencing.

The other male was growing impatient as he waited and he poked his head around the corner only to see Eugen moving towards what looked like to be a large fish until he looked closer. A surprised but excited look grew onto his face and he noticed the large and painful harpoon sticking out of the tail, a torn rope floating in the water not too far from him and a small grin grew on his face as he waited for what would happen next.

The waves of the water became different, and Alkyoni had noticed this. They weren't the natural ripples that the sea had produced itself. His thin brows furrowed and he stopped moving about in the water, watching carefully where the small vibrations came from. It seemed like something else was making them. As long as he'd been in the ocean, it was natural to know how the waves moves and what each movement of water meant. Some other creature had been watching him. And it was getting closer.

A figure rounded the corner, stepping into the open and the light of the moon revealed just what it was. His breath caught in his throat, just before he began to panic, panting as adrenaline rushed through his veins. The boy noticed how the human continued to walk closer, unafraid of him. His glistening, fully sapphire eyes watched out of fear. He was completely vulnerable. The man never ceased in his steps, and Alkyoni began to struggle once more to escape back into the ocean, where he'd be safe.

The sudden feeling of gentle ripples against his back, made him whip his head around instantaneously. His eyes narrowed at the silhouette of another human. They cornered him. He feared the worse. Either they were going to kill him, or they were going to capture him. Alkyoni wasn't sure which was worse. The wounded creature turned back around to face his closer threat and he hissed a terrible sound, bearing his fangs in an attempt to intimidate the human. The sand beneath him became loose, as it was soggy from the water, and his body slid slightly further into the ocean. He wanted nothing more than to escape.

While continuing to bare his fangs, he let out another threatening sound, attempting to make a quick get away into the sea from the dangers of the shallows. The pain from his injury was no longer evident as instinct told him to get as far as he could from the humans. Water splashed into his face and over his tail, as if the ocean were trying to help him get away.

As the creature saw the two large figures, it began to panic, hissing at them and baring the sharp fangs every mermaid was sure to have. The sounds were intimidating and harshly loud though he didn't falter his movements as he approached the creature. His eyes were examining every bit of the creature, making sure to take in every detail so that if it were to slip through his fingers he would be able to tell everyone what exactly it had looked like. Eugen stopped for a moment and his eyes shifted to his brother for barely a second before moving back onto the creature.

When the mermaid turned to lock eyes with Rein his grin widened and once Eugen gave him a slight signal he moved quickly and stepped on the torn rope attached to the harpoon that had pierced the large lightly colored tail. The reaction from the mermaid made both males cringe as a large cry was let out into the night air, the sound making their ears ring.

After a few seconds to recover from the howl of pain, Eugen growled and moved quickly to grab the long dark hair belonging to the creature as he began to drag him onto the nearby islet, a slight snarl on his face as his muscled worked to pull the mermaid well onto the land.

"Gehst ein Kescher bekommen! Schnell!" The captain's low German voice spoke to his brother who quickly obliged and rushed off back the way they had came, practically jumping through the slightly deeper water as he ran. As Rein rushed off, Eugen turned his attention back to the mermaid that was trying its best to get away from him.

A low growl left the male as his large hands wrapped tightly around the slim wrists belonging to the figure fighting him, its skin surprisingly soft as he held the creature down. It was weak and obviously tired from the struggling and his dark eyes examined the mermaid's body, unsure of exactly what gender it was. Eugen lifted his head to check if his brother had returned yet, though he hadn't seen or heard any movement other than the slight struggling noises the creature under him was making.

Once the human had stepped on the rope, it went taut, yanking harshly at the barbed harpoon in his tail. The feeling was an overwhelming pain that made it terribly difficult to bare. Stiffening, he released an ear-shattering screech of pain, the noise coming from his throat almost hurting his vocal chords at how high-pitched it was. As his pained scream faded into a echoing, distorted cry, he gritted his teeth and collapsed weakly in the shallows.

Unable to move, he was grabbed roughly by the hair, a strong hand dragging him completely onto land. The sudden action had startled him and he reached up to claw at the hand in his hair was he was dragged, and he hissed weakly once more. Because of having the sharp harpoon embedded in his tail yanked, he now felt numb in his lower half. Despite this, he still continued to struggle to get away from the man.

No doubt was this man a mere curious onlooker. Alkyoni knew what type of human this was. These creatures were notoriously known among his kind as pirates. They were the worst kind of humans, as they took whatever they pleased regardless of the risk.

Having his wrist gripped, the mermaid glanced up at the human with a vicious ex
pression behind his ocean-like eyes. Without any hesitation, his fangs were buried in the flesh of the man's hand. His head twisted to the side a bit, tearing at the skin as venom was released into the wound.
Low, hissing noises sounded in the back of his throat as the bitter taste of blood filled his mouth and he didn't plan on letting go any time soon.

A sharp wave of pain seemed to rush through the large males arm, creating a fierce snarl on his face as he grinded his teeth, a painful shout left him and he gripped the figure's wrists tighter, his eyes shut tightly at the feeling of teeth digging in deep into his arm. Opening his eyes he gave a dark look at the mermaid and breathed heavily through his nose, his jaw clenching out of pain and he took several deep breathes until the pain began to weaken throughout his body.

Adrenaline began to set in and he gave a low growl as he watched the mermaid, not caring what it took for him to capture this creature for himself and to be seen as the first human to successfully capture a live mermaid.

The distant sound of splashing signaled the return of Rein as he carried a large net over his shoulder. When he turned the corner of the island his gaze grew violent automatically at the sight of the mermaid biting Eugen's arm, leaving several trails of blood trickling down the captain's arm. "Don't just stand there get ready to net it!" Snapped Eugen as his voice was rough with anger due to the pain still in his arm. "On the count of three.."

"One..Two..Now!" The captain spoke as he jumped off the creature, pulling his injured wrist out of the figure's jaws, practically shredding a bit of his skin as he did so. The net was thrown perfectly over the figure and Rein watched as the mermaid hissed and pulled for freedom before moving towards the head of the creature. Eugen grunted with pain as he looked at his damaged arm before narrowing his eyes at the netted being lying on the islet. Rein knew better than to ask Eugen if he was alright, he had learned in past events that to him it's taken more as an insult than concern. As if he were thinking he couldn't handle the pain and needed to be cared for like some sort of child.

"Grab the body, I have the tail." Eugen ordered and the two figures simultaneously bent down and lifted the creature up, Eugen wrapping his arm around the large tail, careful not to touch the harpoon, while Rein held the figure's back. Making their way back to the ship was a bit difficult due to the raising water and thrashing mermaid.

As they neared the ship many of the crew members stood in near shock and rushed to help get the creature onto the ship. Kaiser heard the commotion and looked down from where he was on the ship, amazed that they were able to find such a creature here. "Get the tank! Hurry!" The male ordered a couple of the crew members and they heaved the tank onto deck, practically perfect for the mermaid. The tank had the right amount of water along with several small holes in the lid to provide for oxygen. As the mermaid was carry aboard, Kaiser noticed the large harpoon projecting out of the tail, a sight that made him wince slightly as the creature was laid down.

Eugen took a breath and walked over to where the harpoon was, ordering several men to hold the figure down as his eyes searched for the doctor who was luckily standing nearby, examining the injury from afar. Turning to the crew he raised his voice slightly. "Cover yer ears." The order was plain and simple and the crew complied, their ears covered by their hands and a few had their eyes closed instinctively. With a quick glance at the mermaid, he looked at the harpoon and grabbed the metal spear, his muscles tightening as he yanked the harpoon out of the figure as fast as he possible could before moving to cover his own ears.

It was terrifying to be so suddenly trapped. He didn't know what was going to happen, as the two humans made sure he wouldn't be able to escape the large net. Struggling, he was lifted by the men and carried off into deeper waters. The waters he longed to be in were just out of reach as the cool feeling of the ocean moved over his body in thin waves as he was held slightly above the water.

With the taste of blood still in his mouth, he thought to cease his thrashing as it was no use, and it brought him pain from the wound in his tail. Alkyoni stared at the shocked faces of the other human men. At the sight of them all, he closed his eyes and turned away, burying his face into his arm as he stay still trapped inside of the large net.

Once aboard the ship, he was dropped onto the deck, the soaked net his only saving grace as he was deprived of water. Though his chest felt heavy, he was still getting used to breathing like a land mammal even as he'd been stuck in shallow waters just prior to being captured. His glistening blue eyes looked panicked, his thin brows furrowed as he looked from each face to each face. What would happen to him now? Surely they weren't going to kill him. The looks upon all of their faces were akin to astonishment. As if finally seeing a dream become reality.

Alkyoni's heart beat escalated as an older man approached him. The boy stared at the man as his eyes were filled with uncertainty. With the fear of the unknown. Feeling threatened, he gave a weak and halfhearted hiss, bearing his fangs slightly through plump and pink lips.

"Cover yer ears." Spoke the man, as he approached the wounded creature further. Alkyoni's eyes widened largely, a sickening realization hitting him like an anchor to the ocean floor. He watched as all the humans on the ship covered their ears, some even closing their eyes. The mermaid watched as a calloused hand reach for the metal spear of the harpoon, then he even felt the tense of the man's grip on the spear.

The feeling of having the barbed end of the harpoon yanked out of him literally took his breath away. The pain was too intense, and he gave a siren-like scream in both terror and pain as it was removed. Blood gushed from the wound as it had done before. It was like someone had pulled a plug as the nearly black blood spilled from the piercing in his tail. He weakly fell to his back against the deck of the ship, having previously held himself up. Trembling, his distorted cries echoed in the night air as the throbbing discomfort seemed to take over his whole body.

"Doc' C'mere!" The low voice called out as his hand quickly loved to cover the large wound in the creature's tail, trying his best to keep the pressure. "Bring the rum." Eugen ordered as he glanced back, many of the crew members looking over his shoulder at what was happening. Once the older male grabbed the rum and his supplies, he rushed back towards the Captain and the injured mermaid, quickly handing the bottle of rum to Eugen and waiting for his chance to doctor the wound.

Using his teeth to pull the cork from the glass bottle, Eugen took a quick swallow from the beverage before moving his hand and quickly pouring it onto the wound along with a bit onto his own damaged hand. The stinging pain returned into his arm and he grinded his teeth a bit before quickly moving out of the doctor's way. "Hurry and stitch it up." The larger male spoke as he stood next to the now kneeling doctor who began to quickly take out a sharp needle and thick thread-like string. Carefully he pushed the needle through the strong scaled skin, pulling the thread through before beginning to close the wound.

Rein sighed and leaned against the side of the ship, he watched the creatures ex
pression and smirked a bit at the fact that his brother had managed to actually catch something like this. Kaiser was nearby and he and several other crew members were filling up the tank with sea water, making sure there weren't any leaks and that everything was clean and ready for the mermaid. Once all of that was complete they moved the large and heavy tank into the Captain's quarters, being careful not to spill the water inside.

Once the doctor had finished with the wound, the mermaid had passed out from the pain and he rose to his feet before sighing "Go to go then." The figure spoke quickly as he carried his supplies back to where he had gotten them from. The captain looked over the wound and the creature before him while Rein and a few other men helped to move the tired creature into the tank. Gently, the being was put into the water and the lid was shut and locked tightly.

"What a beautiful las' she is" One of the crew members spoke as they looked at the mermaid through the tank, admiring the sleeping figure carefully. "I aint so sure its a las' mate, more of a lad actually." Kaiser corrected him and the sound of his voice gained the attention of many of the men in the room, including Eugen and Rein. "It's a lad? You're sure?" Eugen questioned Kaiser before moving to get a good look at the mermaid or merman rather. "Do ye see any bosoms on his chest? That's a lad, bet my rum on it." Kaiser spoke with a small laugh and a few of the other men looked a bit curious as they looked at the tank.

"What're ye all doin? Get back to careening the ship before I keelhaul everyone last one of ye!" The captain rose his voice at his crew who scrambled out of his quarters while responding with "Aye sir!" In the room there was only Eugen and Rein left and the scarred figure hissed at the wound on his arm, seeming to have forgotten about it and he quickly moved to rinse it off and call the doctor into his room from outside to take a look at it.

The cries that had racked his body died down a bit, and his heart began beating all too fast as he hyperventilated. As he felt the hand touch his scaly flesh, his tail flinched and he stared at the man with wide blue eyes as he applied pressure to the gushing wound. Panting, he watched as another human approached him, supplies in hand. His thin eyebrows furrowed as he painfully watched the hand move from where it covered his injury, only for a throbbing and stinging sensation to replace it as a liquid was poured onto the open wound. The pierced skin bubbled up and his body seemed to have given up on him, as the pain brought him to a cold sleep.

As his body went limp on the deck, eyes fluttered closed lightly and all went unnoticed. Neatly and quickly, his wound was sewed up, the thick scaly flesh pulled together in a clean stitch. Even once the doctor of the ship had completed his task, the weakened creature didn't wake up.

A thumping of boots on the wooden panels of the deck, before a heavy tank filled with water had been dragged out. Once inside, his soft skin seemed to replenish itself as it gained its glistening appearance once more, no longer dull from having been away from the water that amount of time.

Bright blue eyes blinked open to small slits and he looked around, his sight taking in the new surroundings. The boy opened them completely and he looked around the room, uncertain of where they'd brought him. Dim lighting of candles and the presence of two men caught his attention and he frowned, placing his thin fingered hand on the thick glass wall of the case he was in.

It was definitely not big enough to swim around in as he'd come to discover. His large tail had barely the room to move as he tried adjusting, the pain from the wound now dull as it had been before. Looking away from the two humans, his eyes rested on the fine stitching which pulled his flesh together in a pink and slightly puckered wound. At least this would heal faster, he thought fleetingly just as he turned his attention towards a hiss of pain coming from one of the humans in the room.

Pursing his lips, he turned to lay on his side as he watched quietly through the glass of his tank. Alkyoni discovered the bite wound he'd inflicted on the man and his tongue swiped gently over the pointed ends of his teeth, remembering what it felt like when he bit into the skin. Slouching a bit, he looked away and pressed his cheek against the glass with a soft sigh, his eyes closing a bit once more.

A heavy sigh left the large muscled figure as he sat in one of his plush and large chairs, facing the large tank on one side of the room. A large newly opened bottle of rum next to him on a table was picked up and he took a swig of it before resting the bottom of it on his leg. The tired looking doctor entered the room quietly with all of his sterilized tools in hand and he pulled up a seat near him and began to stitch up the large gashes that covered the captain's arm. A low growl left Eugen as he watched the now awake mermaid, his golden-like eyes watching the creature's every move as he took a gulp from his rum once again.

"Glaubst du, er kann Englisch sprechen? Oder Deutsch?" The twin's voice rose from nearby the tank, leaning down slightly to get a good close view of the captured creature, a slight grin on his face as he walked from the tail end to the head. "Wie heisst du?" The dark figure spoke to the mermaid inside the tank, giving a slight frustrated look when he got no response and he pulled up a small chair before leaning forward towards the tank and speaking again. "What is your name?"

Eugen watched his brother make an attempt to communicate with the being and he shook his head with a small laugh. "Ja, er kann aber werde er nicht zu du oder jedermann jetzt sprechen." The captain spoke in a low voice, a slight tinge of humor in his tone as he glanced down at his wounded arm, the stitches fitting together nicely and the doctor soon cutting the strong string before quietly showing himself out.

Propping his feet up on a nearby table, the dark male continued to drink from his bottle, a smirk on his face as he kept his eyes on his newly captured prize. "Leave him alone you idiot. He's tired." Eugen spoke to his brother who was tapping a bit on the glass who eventually groaned and left the mermaid to find his place on his couch where he usually slept.

((Translation: "Do you think he can speak English? Or German?"  "What's your name?"  "Yeah he can but he won't talk to you or anyone right now."))

The boy sat up swiftly, the water in the tank splashing around as he moved away from the glass wall which he'd previously rested his cheek on. His brows furrowed and he wondered what they could possibly want to do next. Glistening blue eyes watched as the human walked from the end of the tank towards his face, and he pressed his body flush with the glass wall behind him, as if he were keeping space between himself and the man on the outside. He frowned at the question which registered as another language, one he did not know, and at the man's grin disappeared only to be replaced with a look of slight frustration at the fact that Alkyoni hadn't understood him.

Once the man pulled up a chair, the mermaid stared at him dumbly as he spoke to him once more. He had probably repeated his question, only this time, it was spoken in a language he could understand. Alkyoni continued to stare at him and he frowned, only to turn his head and look away from the human sitting in front of him, not bothering to answer the question.

He wanted nothing to do with the man and he made sure that he knew it was so as he refused to look at him. The mermaid lifted his tail slightly and let it hit the water in an agitated attempt to make him go away. Thin eyebrows furrowed at the sounds of tapping on the thick glass case and he turned his body around entirely, facing the opposite wall of the tank while resting his head against the glass.

Now with his back facing the human, his ears twitched slightly at the sound of the man who had captured him. His voice was deep and rough; its tone was distinctive. Alkyoni silently though about what this man must have wanted with a creature like him. What could his kind be worth?

The figure didn't bother turning over despite hearing the footsteps of the man who'd sat in front of him lead away from the tank he resided in. He sighed almost silently, the action causing his heart beat to come to a calmer pace. He wondered if this was the life he would be subject to from now on. Certainly they couldn't keep him in the tank forever, could they? It wasn't something he wanted. Yet, he didn't have a say in the matter.

The next morning came faster than expected for the large dark figure still sound asleep in his king sized bed that was obviously stolen from somewhere. Dark silk sheets lazily covered half of his muscled body as he lay on his side, his large arms wrapped tightly around one of his plush pillows. A few moments later the figure stirred in his sleep just before sitting up with a groan. Eugen's dark and tired look eyes looked around the slightly lit room, assuming it was around morning time as he rose to his feet. Opening his bedroom door, he could be seen wearing only a pair of baggy shorts that reached a bit past his knees. The shorts could pass as sleeping wear or actual clothing that could be worn throughout the day. The captain growled as he stretched his large and scarred body before making his way over towards the tank on one side of the room, a smirk on his face as he looked at the captured creature inside.

There the figure lay, sleeping soundly inside the tank and the sight nearly made him growl though instead he reached for the lock and opened the lid to the large container. The key to the lock was attached to a string around the male's neck, keeping it safe from anyone who might want to steal his prize. Once the lid was propped up against the wall, he let his left hand move into the water carefully, not caring if he ended up getting bit but careful enough not to disturb the water too much. His hand traveled down until he reached the figure's hair, running his hand through the soft locks before traveling down his body until he reached the stitched wound on his tail. Hearing a bit of commotion outside, Eugen removed his hand and closed the lid, locking it and checking it before grabbing his hat and coat and walking outside.

The sun was a lot brighter than he expected as he left his quarters, squinting his eyes as the men rushed around the ship, a few of them at the front looking at something small in the distance. His brother, Rein was one of them and Eugen's appearance drew the attention of the pirates. "Sir! Sail ho! Shall we come about? We still have plenty of booty from the las-" The crew member that was speaking to the captain earned a slight snarl from the larger man, a growl leaving him as he moved away from. "Scupper that! We pillage every ship that dare crosses our path!!" Eugen's voice rose as he drew his sword from its sheath, the crew giving a loud and united roar of approval as the ship increased its speed towards the on coming ship.

Within minutes the Hades' Deceit was next to the other vessel, large hooks were thrown and alarm flood through the other ship as pirates began to pour onto the deck. Fighting began to break loose quickly and cannons were fired from Eugen's ship, each cannon ball fired breaking directly into the ship next to them and the captain grabbed another sword out of a man's body before rushing back into the battle. Swords clinked together while others used guns and fired from afar. The ship of sailors were inexperienced fighters and it was almost pathetic when half of the crew surrendered once they saw it was hopeless to fight. Eugen looked at the frail and scared looking men that were on their knees, begging to be spared unlike their fellow crew mates. Laughing a bit at their attempt to be spared, the captain dragged his sword near each one, waiting for his crew to finish gathering the plunder. "Give no quarter! Blow the men down!" the dark captain spoke heartlessly as he moved away from the few sailors, the command sending alarm into them as Eugen made his way back onto his ship.

Celebration due to all the booty they had recently collected began to start up once again, drinking and several jolly songs began to spread amongst the crew. Kaiser gave a slight nod of approval to his friend as he took a long swig from a bottle of rum, his feet propped up on a table as he sat in an old wooden chair. Rein was looking at a few gold objects as he laid on his favorite couch, feet posted on one of the arm rests and he looked up once his brother entered the room. "Oi that was a good one huh? Not bad for a bunch of no good sailors" The male spoke with a laugh and the captain laughed a bit with him, throwing his coat and had down on a nearby chair before moving to look at the now awake mermaid in the tank. "...Fetch some fish for the boy." Eugen ordered and Rein groaned lazily as he moved to his feet before leaving the room.

When the figure returned, the captain had pulled up a seat near the tank and was handed a metal bucket of fresh fish that had recently been caught probably by one of the other crew members instead of his brother. Eugen leaned forward slightly and looked at the slightly dim looking mermaid. "I know you've got to be hungry huh? But you have to do something for me to get one alright?" The large figure spoke in a clear English tone, unable to keep a bit of a German accent from his voice. The lid to the tank was unlocked and Rein watched in amusement as he leaned in the doorway, knowing there was no way the mermaid was going to talk to him. A fish was pulled from the bucket and held tightly in the captain's hand as he waited for a response to his question. "What's your name?"

As morning came about, the sleeping mermaid didn't rouse one bit. His tired body lay motionless aside from the rise and fall of his chest, indicating his soft, slow breathing. The ocean waves beat gently against the ship, causing it to rock delicately, a motion that lulled him into a deep sleep that night. Of course everything that had happened to him the day before exhausted him to an unbelievable level. Not to mention he hadn't slept in days as he always had to watch for danger. His injury was what had gotten him caught. It was a burden he couldn't fix. The man who captured him, though, he had to be grateful for. Without having that harpoon removed, he would have died. There was no doubt.

He didn't wake, even as the captain of the ship had unlocked the tank. Not even accidental thunk of the lock against the glass had caused him to twitch. The young man sighed contently as a hand went through his hair. Brows furrowed and he stirred slightly once the same hand touched the skin of his arm, his side, all before finally reaching his tail. The gentle touch near his stitched wound caused him to twitch uncomfortably. It was sore; healing just the way it should.

Thick, dark lashes fluttered gently before opening up to look around. He inhaled deeply, arching his back as he stretched. With a well-rested yawn, he tried to even stretch his arms upward, though he quickly let them drop to his lap after remembering where he was. And why it was so cramped. His ears flickered slightly at the muffled sound of commotion. It would have been loud, he knew, had the door to the room been open. Were it not for the glass as well he might have been able to hear better. Though despite his disadvantages he listened as close as he could, making out the sounds as something akin to men shouting. The dull thudding of boots across the thick wooden deck, and the faint clashing of swords met his ears. He wondered just what had been going on, and hopefully it wouldn't threaten him. In this tank, he was completely vulnerable. There was no swimming away.

Soon all sounds of seeming violence had stopped. It had kept him weary and on edge as there was a brief moment of silence. The loud, echoing booms of a cannon still rang in his ears as he slouched against the class wall of the tank. Footsteps moving across the deck caught his attention as he began to hear loud voices. Everything had sounded so cheerful. There was laughter, and if he was hearing correct, there was singing.

The door to the room he resided in had burst open not only with men but with the outside commotion of voices and singsongs. The boy flinched back and he tried to be as unnoticeable as he possibly could, not wanting to draw attention to himself. A small grumble erupted from his stomach, loud enough only for him to hear. He looked at the fins on his tail, his thin eyebrows pulling together softly as they appeared to be dimmed in color and wilting. That's right, he hadn't eaten in such a long time he'd nearly forgotten that he had to eat. His blue eyes watched as the humans indulged in food and drink and he listened to the cheerful celebration going on outside. Even his gaze had gone dull as he stared off into space, swallowing thickly as he thought about when he might get to eat something.

If he wasn't paying much attention before, he certainly was now as the man who'd captured him pulled up a chair to sit in front of him. His eyes caught sight of a tin bucket, filled with fish that had just been plucked from the ocean, and his mouth nearly watered from the smell. Of course, he was a picky eater, and not quite fond of all kinds of fish, but he most definitely wouldn't complain. With the lid of the tank opened, he felt timid and afraid, yet more than that he wanted to ignore those feelings and eat. The sound of the man's voice made him look up and his lips quivered a bit at his proposition. There, the fish was held in a strong grip by the man's hand, and it was held just before him as he was asked a question. It was the same question that the other identical human had asked him the night before. Why did they want to know? He thought to himself, wondering also why they bothered to care.

He reached out for the fish tentatively, watching the human intently for any sort of trick. Anything could happen, as they were already so unpredictable. His hand jolted back a bit in a cautious manner and he gave a fleeting glare to the man in the doorway. Maybe he wanted to know. Because of this thought, the boy spoke quietly, shakily, only loud enough so that the muscular figure before him could hear. "...M-my name it is.. It's Alkyoni..."

The large figure was slightly surprised at the mermaid who had just answered his question. Sure he hoped it would work but he didn't actually think it would especially this soon. Though animals will piratically do anything for food, Eugen thought as he gave a wide smirk and handed the fish to the creature who reached for it. The figure in the door way had an astonished look on his face as he watched the mermaid respond to his brother and he gave a slightly jealous look to the side before moving to sit into a chair and watch the two.

Eugen glanced back at his brother and laughed a bit before grabbing another fish from the bucket. "Was ist los mit du? Eifersüchtig?" The captain laughed as his brother grumbled under his breath before turning back to the creature in front of him. "So your name is Alkyoni.." The dark figure spoke, trying his best to say the foreign name though his German accent made it sound slightly different. "My name's Eugen and he's Rein" The figure spoke glancing back at his brother once again who could just sit by and watch the two.

"I don't understand, you were the one he bit and yet he talks to you." Rein growls under his breath before being silenced by his brother. "Halt die Klappe." The figure spoke back at his brother before turning back to the hungry boy once again a sly smirk on his face as he half glanced at Rein while asking the question. "Who do you like better me or Rein?" A laugh left the captain once again as Rein gave a dark look at his brother. "Isn't it obvious enough? Rub it in why don't you?!"

"Alright, fine come here and see if he'll answer you or not." Eugen spoke as he grabbed a nearby chair and put it near him, watching his brother silently move over near the tank, grabbing a fish from the identical male before looking at Alkyoni. Thinking of a question, he paused before giving a slight smirk. "Are you really a boy or a girl?" the male asked and in return he was splashed, creating a loud laugh from his brother who took the fish from him. "You idiot, you should've listened to Kaiser last night if you wanted the answer to that question."

Rein growled at the water on his body and moved into another room to grab a towel and dry himself off as much as he could. Calming his laughter, Eugen sighed and looked at the boy inside the tank before leaning forward once again. "Now..How'd you get hurt?" The captain questioned referring to where the harpoon had pierced his tail.

The moment was finally here as the human extended his hand which held the fish in a firm grasp, and Alkyoni snatched it without hesitation. He held it flat in both of his palms, tearing into the scaly flesh of the creature almost ferociously. God, was he hungry. The blood from the fish covered his face messily from his lips to his cheeks, as if a child had been eating something with too much sauce. It hadn't tasted too bad, in fact the fish had more meat on it than he anticipated. The boy was almost shaking, as if he'd never eaten in his entire life.

His blue eyes followed the man's hand as it reached for yet another fish and he stared at the creature, finally feeling the starvation he'd not noticed before. Furrowing his thin eyebrows, he shook his head as if to right himself, and he reached up to quickly wipe the blood off of his face. Not that he noticed, but it left a light reddish-brown stain on his plump pink lips and the blush-tinged skin of his cheeks. Looking down at the water he was in, he listened to the man speak to him. Eugen and Rein were their names. They were strange and similar in language. Obviously the nearly identical men were twin brothers. Alkyoni could easily distinguish one from the other, though. His attention switched to Rein as he listened to him grumble under his breath, and he gave the male a sour face. Perhaps he didn't actually dislike Rein. Though, he didn't like when people forced themselves on him. It made him feel uncomfortable.

Alkyoni looked at Eugen once more, his blue eyes staring straight into the gold ones before him. The question he was asked next made him turn red in the face, and he glanced from one man to the other. He wasn't really familiar with jokes and took it as a serious question. Before he could answer, Eugen had invited his brother to sit near him and that didn't sit too well with the boy.

With his fin-like ears flattening closer to his head, he watched Rein intently, his eyes almost blank in ex
pression as he waited for him to ask a question. The smirk was borderline smug and Alkyoni's eyes went a bit wide at what he was asked. Was he mocking him? His nose wrinkled as he gave Rein a nasty look and swiftly he lifted his tail, using the fin as a 'bucket' to splash a very generous amount of water at him. The boy turned his head away from the man, his eyes closed and his brows furrowed in a sour ex
pression as he ignored him. How dare he ask that question! It was obvious that he was indeed male. How could he not tell the difference?

He refused to return his attention to Eugen until the man walked away to dry himself off. It didn't bother Alkyoni in the slightest that he'd upset him. If he hadn't asked a rude question, then maybe he wouldn't have been greeted with a rude answer. His angered facial ex
pression relaxed once he looked at Eugen once more, watching his laughter fade slowly but completely. There wasn't anything wrong with the question yet he just didn't see how the man could care. It happened; it was in the past. Perhaps, though, it was just mere curiosity. What ever the reason behind the question, he would indeed answer, as Eugen still held a fish in his hand.

Hesitantly and softly, he began to speak, "...It was... human fishers...," His blue eyes glanced at the fish, forcing himself to talk more. "It was an accident. I wasn't being careful," The boy sighed and licked his lips before speaking once more. "They didn't see me and I didn't see them. They thought I was food. So...," Alkyoni glanced at the wound on his tail, pursing his lips a brief moment. "The spear went through, but not all the way like I thought it did. It didn't hurt at first because I was scared. The rope connected to it went loose and I got away. They never pulled me out of the water... Not an inch. I was happy that I lived, but I was going to die from it. I know so."

A weak sigh escaped his lips and he glanced down at his hands under water. One of them nervously rubbed at the thin membrane between his index and middle finger, his brows furrowing. "I thought you would kill me. I was scared so... I tried to defend myself. But... You kept me here, and removed the barb. I was going to die before-" He closed his eyes tightly, not looking at Eugen. "I am... Um... I'm grateful."

The large captain leaned back in his seat as he listened to the boy explain what exactly had happened to his tail. Once the mermaid had finished he gave a small smirk at how shy the figure seemed and sounded as he basically said thank you. "You're welcome." Eugen spoke with a small smirk as he let his eyes look him over slightly before traveling back up to look into those deep oceanic eyes. The fish in his hand was handed to the hungry boy and he attempted to think of another question.

"Do you have any family?" The next question was simple and he was just plain curious on the matter. Mermaids were interesting to him. To him they were adaptable beings with the ability to breath air and water along with the ability to communicate as humans do on land. His hand reached for the next fish, amused slightly at how hungry the figure was and he waited for the creature to answer him.

The twin was silent as he entered the room, feeling a bit guilty for his idiotic question that he asked the mermaid and he sat in the chair that Eugen had placed for him. In his hands was a medium sized plate of food and he listened to the conversation as he took a bite of his afternoon meal. His brother glanced at him and elbowed him a bit before speaking under his breath. "Sich entschuldigen."

Rein gave him a slight curl of his lip, hating how he treated him like a child sometimes before he lightened his ex
pression slightly and turned to the mermaid. "Sorry." The male spoke quickly before shoving a piece of food back into his mouth, adjusting in his seat a bit to break the awkwardness that seemed to run into him. It's not that he was trying to be rude to the mermaid he was literally asking a serious question though he could see how it could be a bit offensive.
