Take the ShoutBox for example.

Say that you post an advertisement on the SB within 30 minutes of the last one without realizing the actual time. You look away for, oh, say... 3 minutes and you miss a warning. So, about a month later, you get another warning that is "final" and you wonder how it is final without you knowing you had other warnings. You find out that you have 1 or 2 more and since you took your eyes away from a fast moving ShoutBox, you were completely unaware.

Now... I know that it is nobody else's fault that you missed it and you should just never break the rules, yada, yada, yada, but the truth is people break rules. Intentionally and by accident all the time. Now, the mods and staff are not to blame for your mistakes. But, we need a better way of being notified so that the point is crystal clear. I think it would benifit the users and staff, so that there is no confusion and finger-pointing.

When you get a warning, it should be sent to your inbox. An alert of an RMail. Subject "Warning". And the violation inside. I know that this can be done somehow because I get on many other sites that has this feature. Yes, it may take time (I have no clue how much), but investments for a greater cause is good, correct?

Now, I know some may or may not agree with me and that is okay.

If you decide to post "No support", please state why.

Also, let's try to be as mature as possible in this thread and although it is okay to disagree with others, keep it to a calm debate. Not a blood thirsty battle of words.

Thank you. :)

I am indifferent on this one. I see nothing wrong with the current system, but what you have suggested would work too. It's just another way of going about doing things, I don't see that one is any better than the other.

I agree it would be nice to have some sort of notification, but it's not meant to be adjusting to the comfort of the offender. It's the user's responsibility to take extra care to abide by the rules. "Accidentally" breaking the rules shouldn't happen at all if you're being careful. I mean, yeah, there is the spacebar-enter glitch that's going on, but that's not warned because it's an actual glitch and truly on accident.

So with that factor ruled out, users who aren't being careful are *censored*umed to be maliciously breaking the rules. So they'll know for themselves that they've broken the rule and how many warnings they have.

We are already working on a change to the shoutbox rules, a "de-vamp" if you will. What I would like to happen is to have a more relaxed feeling to the chatroom, and only warn for spam that actually IS SPAM. More about the spirit of the law than the letter of the law, so to speak.

Support and Mods alike both hate having to give warnings for every little infraction, the way its done now, so we have been discussing changes for a while. Hopefully you will see an update in the next day or two regarding these changes. =)

Cool, Broken. I'm happy to see this. :3

I will take a risk here and say that I feel restricted in the shoutbox. When someone gets banned for 3 days or whatever, and I look around, and there is no spam I can see, or any other warnings, I want to say something like Why, or That hardly seems fair, but I would risk being banned. It scares me to post :x But, its probably just me.

Mirror: Well, then. That's pleasant. :)

Fizzy: Yeah, see, we cannot even make a peep about a friend or any user getting banned. It's like, forbidden.

But, I am glad they are taking it down a notch or two. Shows they pay attention to the users. :)

I've been trying to get the red letters removed completely when a user is SB banned, because it really is unfair to see it and have to keep your mouth shut about it.

The reason we ask for comments not to be made is to avoid a dramatic situation happening in the SB, but in my view, the red letters themselves cause a bit of drama. Sometimes you don't see a reason for the ban when it happens because previous behavior was reported via a ticket/screenshot. But yeah, I'd like to do away with the public notification of a ban in the shoutbox altogether.

I welcome anyone to express their feelings about things that happen in the shoutbox, as long as its done in an appropriate way, like fizzy and Reapers and the other users above. I don't bite, and I do listen. =P

Mirror: That is a fantastic idea! The ban should not be public. That in itself brings a ton of attention to it.

Reapy: Support. This happened to me and I got banned for 3 days from the shoutbox and I didn't even know what the heck happened. I love your idea, it would make Rescreatu more effective. :D

i think it is a good idea for the folks that end up getting banned get the details in private from warnings to the final notice.

that way they don,t feel like they've been "slapped in the face - or total shock" when they come back from doing other stuff to see themselves banned.

not much else i can add.

i hope this works or some version of it.

take care everyone,

sincerely,
