Something like "trigger warnings" that you find on Tumblr would be nice on Res.

Trigger warnings are basically a pre-warning that something they posted might have really offensive or frightening material that would make someone feel anxious, sick, etc. so that unsuspecting clickers will have a chance to avoid it before seeing it.

I know we're not allowed to post anything truly bad on Res (which is good) but sometimes I see people posting pictures of things like close-up shots of spiders, snakes, what have you, with no warning at all, or sometimes even a prompt to click the link. (for example, I saw "EVERYONE ->> [LINK]" with a picture of a huge close-up spider on the shoutbox the other day)

Phobias of these things are really really common and I myself have friends who are SEVERELY affected by photos like these.
I think that it should be a rule, or even just reminded to the users as a common courtesy, that if you post a picture that is likely to incite fear or anxiety in someone, that you should post a warning first.

For example: user101: Warning: spider image. [LINK]

Really not that hard. c: And I'm sure some people out there would greatly appreciate it.
I know explaining what a photo is for every single thing we post would be a pain, but it should at least be necessary for things that are very likely to do some emotional harm.

Thanks for hearing me out! ^^

I hate spiders myself, so I completely understand where you're coming from here, but unfortunately we can't make it a rule that trigger warnings must be included with certain links posted.

The reason for this is that there is no limit to things that can be triggers, and it would just get really messy and nearly impossible to manage. Spiders are pretty common to be bothersome, but it isn't unheard of to be disturbed by images of cute kittens or puppies either.

If you know that certain things are bothersome or are triggers for you, the best solution is to not click the link blindly. Ask the person for clarification of what the link is. Pay attention to the words in the link's URL. If they don't respond and no one else responds, don't click it. Chances are more often than not you're not gonna be missing anything anyway. We have to assume some personal responsibility here for what we choose to click, and not just leave it up to the other party to make sure it is "safe".

Now, if someone was posting links of spider pictures and disguising it as an advertisement, or flat out lied to you when you asked what the link was, that would be intentionally misleading, and we could definitely take action there because it wouldn't be okay.

Yeah, that's totally fair. ovo I see your point. Just wanted to check if it was an option or not. I guess I'll just have to leave it to common courtesy if the image is obviously frightening. ~

Thanks for the clarification! ^^
