I was thinking earlier today about the numerous negative comments towards some of our more recent revamps, and possibly how this could be reduced.

We could possibly hold a poll or some sort of feedback thing to see what the majority of the users think on the revamps, and to work out the kinks in the art.

So, say they have a Drindian revamp, the users could possibly post something constructive (not rude) about the art so as to help improve it. The artist could then read it, fix all the little kinks out, etc. and then we have an incredible new revamp, which hopefully pleases most of the members.

Of course, yes, there are going to be some who won't approve of some revamps anyway, but I'm just suggesting this to lessen complaints. The art may gain something from it as well, as there's going to be mistakes somewhere. :]

Anyway, this is obviously just an idea, probably not the best out there, but it's worth a shot. x]

This is a great idea. People can't complain about what they voted for (this isn't politics, after all)! This is the best way I can see to eliminate the majority of revamp complaints. Great suggestion!

If they were to use this system, it would mean that they would have to receal the new revamp. That just spoils everything. Anyways, staff discuss the revamps in the staff forums.

Actually they can complain about what they voted for. The group who voted against it, will complain even louder, even if they were the minority. And the complaint will start right with the set up of the poll, and will flare up once again, whichever group wins, so it only prolongs the whole whining period. I know, as I was staff on an other site, where we tried to make polls like that, before art revamps, but it only makes everything worse. So we gave it up, and kept all revamps as a staff decision only. Hard as it is, to believe, but this is the easiest way.

Subeta does something similar, yeah.  But even with their system -- where the same pet may be revamped over and over and fixed up innumerable times to keep up with the users' suggestions before finally being released to a community that's by and large already bored -- people still complain about the finished product. xP  I can't imagine how those artists must feel after all the work they put into that one project, trying to please everyone and still failing.

But yeah, if it makes you guys feel any better, it usually takes at least a month or two (and that's for the super-speedy artists like Xeeroh >.>) to revamp a Creatu.  The artist in charge posts updates and questions every tiny step of the way, and the rest of the staff jumps in with suggestions and critique whenever they can think of any.

how about, for it not to be so troublesome: they put the sketch, res community comments about it, when the corrections are done the inking starts, then its posted again, problems fixed and then coloring: they post the finished inked product with a palet of colors...etc...etc...

because it will be annoying: finished product with inking and coloring and there is something bad? start over again!

But tamia got a very valid point

Like Yaiz said, some people will complain and spit rubbish out. This can get really annoying and I prefer that the artists have some freedom.

I think artists should have the final decision over their artwork. I dunno, I feel like no matter what you do, people are going to complain if it's not 100% to their specific ideal, and in that case, wouldn't it be better to preserve at least some of the artistic integrity that goes into the revamps?

If the majority of the userbase is satisfied, shouldn't that be enough? If there's a large number of people against a certain revamp, then there may be something legitimately wrong, but otherwise, I feel it's not the job of non-artists to so harshly (and immaturely) critique something that others have put so much time and hard work into.

I am a very fussy artist. If I have people nagging me to put some stupid thingbobs on something I think looks nice, I will shoot that person. Some people will complain if something is not like how they pictured in their head, and sometimes that thing in their head looks stupid. I don't want some idiot guiding a person to make something look stupid. Artists are artists, they should have good judgement on what a good design is. Therefore, non artists should be given much of a say when it comes to design.
