Quicker Way To Search Names

I was thinking that when you searched a name in the name search, if a pet was owned, it would tell you who owned it, instead of sifting through thousands of pages to find the one you want.

An alternative would be to make it so that you can skip ahead more pages, not just two.

Or, remove all of the unnamed releases, because those are completely pointless.

Anyway, please post your opinions!

I support. I do not really understand why the name search option was taken away anyways. It worked in V1.

The name search your thinking of, Yaiz, was only for profiles.

Kobra, you can change the number in the url to skip around better. It's much easier.

The first original suggestion takes the work in finding a name. It'd be too easy to just find a name and either buy it or be shot down. This site is trying to keep you on here as long as it can, not you just do your goals and then quit. That is how it makes money.

I agree with nort - this suggestion would make it far too easy to find the names you want.  I actually like having to work to find them, as doing so is more beneficial to me than having them readily available to anyone.  and as Nort says - manipulate the url to navigate through the pages faster.

Oh how I love this answer. If you can manipulate the url, why cannot we get a built in option to jump to the selected number of pages? Why do we have to "manipulate" to do so?

It is good for you guys that you can "manipulate" it so easily and at will, but for some reason, it doesn't work on my computer. When I search for something, I can change the url once, and it takes me to the selected page. But then if I change it again, no matter what number I write, it only refreshes the same page, not moving anywhere. Even if I repeat the search and try to change the url again, I receive the page I got from the previous "manipulation". So actually I find it quite unfair, that someone can find what they look for with this convenient "manipulation" while I cannot use that, for some unknown stupid computer reason, so for me finding a name means hours of work stepping forward 3 pages (and my computer starts to freeze before I could actually reach the next letter in the alphabet). Knowing that I have such a disadvantage compared to others, is not something that keeps me on Res, if that's the aim of this search system.

Manipulating with the url is NOT how websites are supposed to work. I bet we are not supposed to manipulate it at all. If we are meant to search for names like that, let us have a page jump option that does the same, and works for everyone.

I agree with the page jump option, that's the same as manipulating the URL and therefore wouldn't change the difficulty in any way. However, I do not agree with the initial suggestion of searching for where a pet is exactly simply by the name.

I already suggested the ability to skip the unnamed pets somehow, it's on a board somewhere on the first page, we'll see how that works.

There's a lot of things on this site that are NOT supposed to work the way they do, Yaiz.

But you deal with it.

There is no "we" when your speaking of building code. Perhaps you can code the php/general code yourself to help?

And you seem to be the only person with this problem. Send a ticket if you haven't already.

"I bet we are not supposed to manipulate it at all."

I don't see why we woudln't be.

Thanks for the nice reply Nort. Actually I do not see why you are all against the page jump option, other than the fact that you are very much aware that you have an advantage here, as young users and those not used to the internet do not know that they could manipulate the url, and there are users out there who actually pay for somone to look up a name for them. All I suggest is to make this option available for everyone. It wouldn't be any faster, just fair.

"Send a ticket if you haven't already.": "Sorry, Rescreatu team, I have problems when I try manipulating the site url". You must be kidding.

EDIT: By "we" I meant all Rescreatu users, and no I cannot code it, but many search sites have that option so I know it is not impossible. But actually if a programmer from staff would tell me that the reason why they do not add this function is that they cannot code it, I would accept that as well.

There used to be a page jump option, I forgot the reason that wasn't implemented this time. Forgot to say that! Don't you remember it the option?

And usually when younger users or anyone doesn't know, they ask the box. And we tell them. ^^ Then they have a moment of realization and do it.

And no, I'm not! :D Why would you not send a ticket if you have a problem. Actually! I'll even send it for you.

And also, there's lots of things to do that have been said on the box and the priority list is big if you've paid attention. I'm sure this is at the bottom of the list but I don't see why it wouldn't be added in the future, whether sooner or later.

Well, thanks, but that wasn't really necessary. As this problem is so specific - as you said I am the only one who had it so far - I doubt I would get any ideas what might be the matter. And even if I get some I do not know how I will apply that to my Japanese OS. I manage to use the programs despite it all being in Japanese but I dared not to touch the settings as if I mess it up somewhere, it is very likely that I won't be able to find the same setting again o_0.

Aw, that's a shame. Maybe Google or a computer savy friend could help you? Maybe take screenshots or notes on the way to that setting? I think a programmer here may have an idea as to why this is happening to you, but I can't say for sure.

Lol. Manipulating the web page URL is not a crime in this situation. Everyone and their dogs have done it and I'd encourage it to be done if it would help save time.

As for the page jumping option, I'm sure we can code that one, but it's up to admin. They've refused doing the name search, but I don't see why they'd oppose the page jump.

Most pet sites do not encourage manipulating the url as in most cases it means avoiding some difficulty in the system that is meant to be there (e.g. the system to be able to step only 3 pages at once for example), and usually when they find out that there is a way to manipulate it, they find a way to prevent it. But if you really meant the users being able to jump pages this way or that, and it is all fine, I think a page jump option would be nice.
