MOD of the month and User of the month? :)

These awards can go to the most helpful MOD and User each month. Nothing but a trophy with the name of the months on it will be awarded. At the end of the month, there can be 3 days for everyone to send in the name of who they think should be M.OT.M. or U.O.T.M. and whoever gets the most votes wins! :D

This may have already been suggested a long time ago. Read something like this around the first few months when I first started. xD

Support though.

I don't like the thought of tons of people randomly giving away things to get nominated if this is implemented.

No support, because it will either end up being a popularity contest, or the same users will end up chosen over and over again. Staff already contacts helpful users of the community privately from time to time, and gives them thanks for their helpfulness. No need for a staff of the month, because we are paid to do this job. =)

I agree with Broken on this one. No support.

Users shouldn't be bribed into being good members of the site to win a popularity contest or staff approval. Either they want to be helpful or they don't. The occasional private thank you from staff should be more than enough for anyone without turning it into something flashy.

As for Staff, what about the Staff that isn't really acknowledged? Mods and Support are going to stand out more than other members of staff like the CMs and Writers, who do more behind the scenes work. And unless you memorized the style of the Artists, it's kinda hard to tell who did what.
A Staff award would be an even worse popularity contest. And there's only so many staff members so eventually their awards will stack up and even possibly cause users to judge them based on their popularity.

Popularity contests are just uncool.

I feel awkward about bumping this, but I'd like to add my own opinion.

I agree about the contests getting out of control and more or less turning Res into a who-is-more-popular-than-who site (perhaps not completely, but it seems likely to happen) and then likely a lot of fighting and arguing from some of the more immature users when they aren't chosen. 

As for the staff... when I was on it Fizz did do a 'staff of the month' game to get us to step up our activity. But otherwise, I don't think we need a site-wide update about so-and-so being better than the other staff. All of the staff on Res, writers, artists, support etc., work hard to make Res the best it can be. It would just be awkward.

But I do think (and slightly agreeing with Graveyard here) that giving more notice to the behind the scene staff would be awesome. I do realize that Res has their own standard style of art, but putting a name on who did it would be fun to know and even give us a chance to congratulate the actual artist. For any big writing pieces, acknowledgement would be the same.

No support whatsoever for UOTM.

MOTM would be troublesome as well as mods who spend their time on the shoutbox more than others and gained recognition more than the other staff would have a better chance of getting the position, hence it would not be fair.

WolfQuest.org has this implemented on their site, and it did not turn out very well. However on there, the staff choose who is the User of the Month by observing their progress on the site which is a tiresome and troublesome thing to do if we have it on here to ensure 'fairness'.
