I think that considering lyrics Spam is a very unnecessary rule. I mean, what may be useless to one may not be to another. Like, if you're triyng to name a song. Or you're sicussing a song.

Any supporters?

Ah. I'm still a little sad that Shoutbox singalongs are impossible now, but this rule is understandable. Like Geo told me, it tends to completely take over the Shoutbox - the essential definition of spam around here. People who aren't participating might feel left out or annoyed.

And besides, it's really not too strict. Just a line or two is usually fine. I quote song phrases all the time, when a situation brings one to mind, and it's never been considered a problem in the Shoutbox.

It's just that getting carried away with it ends up turning spammy. P:

The purpose behind the rule was to prevent total take over of the SB with song lyrics. Discussing the song/asking what the name is is perfectly fine; however, when a user comes in and simply posts song lyrics that do not contribute to a conversation, then it's considered spam. If you want to start an indepth discussion about one song and the discussion relies on the posting of lyrics, then we have an Off Topic forum for that.
