Okay,so most of you have noticed the interesting debate about books having a chance to be destroyed, and some players want readable books that can be enjoyed instead of used for training.

so why not have BOOKS for reading and enjoyability...and another type of "book" altogether? training guides,or dictionaries, blah blah whatever you wanna call 'em.

thse books can be one use,and raise your stats, while the books the wonderful writers make can be actually READ and kept, but with no gain to wisdom?

i think this would be a good comprimise,personally....

Good idea. However, I also think we need an option to "safely" read a book...that is, those of us who enjoy the content can read the content with zero risk, and there will be zero intellect gain to any creatu.

lol that's what I'm talking about!

a book that is read for the enjoyment of the story, nothing else, and can't be busted up or burned or destroyed in any way :P

First, writers need to get their rear ends in gear!

Second, books should not be published in game without a story or something in them!

Third, books should not go *poof* randomly.  Especially since percentages aren't always what they're supposed to be!  Look at the people who have hatched two albinos in a row or very close together recently! Look at the percentage of females verses males hatched daily!  Percentages don't work!

Fourth, there should be as many or more books published for the book store as for the credit shop! Credit shop books are limited and should not be the only new ones available! They should be for serious collectors of rare books.  Heck, take the intellect value away rather than just putting more out each month.  Just make sure there's a story in there!

Fifth, I bought my book, and I want to keep it. I don't give a used teabag about how many times my creatu gain intellect! Don't destroy the book. I might want to read it again, and I won't be able to. Make it lose the ability to give intellect instead.  Keep it random if you want, but I want that book in my library where it belongs!

Sixth.  Why do recipie cards give intellect anyway?  I mean, seriously, there's no learning value to them at all!

Seventh.  I want more stories to read!

Eighth.  I want the ability to read those stories whenever I like!

Nineth. I should be able to keep the books I have, even if they're no longer useful for training because I care more about the artistry of the story than an intellect point or two.

Tenth. I want stories to read! (cannot stress this enough apparently).

Frankly, I fell in love with Rescreatu because they not only had meragons and liyure, but because they had READABLE books that did not vanish.  Now I can't open my books because if I do, I might never be able to read that book again. And when there's nothing in it on the first read, I dare not risk it a second time to see if one has been added.  And there have been stories added to some of the books, or at least re-added. I've noticed!

If you want one use/limited use items for gaining intellect, make credit shop items like beans. Let me keep my books!

Options.

1. Books could have a 'read' option and a 'study' option. 'Read'ing would be for pure enjoyment, casual, just to see the story without the risk of destruction of the book. 'Study'ing would be the option that rewarded the pet with an intellect point. At this point, if, during a 'study' of the book, it becomes worn out, it could either be destroyed, or my preferable option, the book could still be read, but no longer studied for intellect points.

2. Keep the current system in place, but rather than book items being deleted completely when they get worn out, simply make it so they can no longer give intellect points

3. Like Cory said, have two separate types of books entirely, one for reading purposes, and one for training purposes.

4. For each book there could be a 'worn' meter. For each time the book is read for intellect, randomly 1%-5% of the meter could fill. When the meter reaches 100%, the book falls apart/is deleted, or can no longer be read for intellect.

I suggested the worn meter thingy. It was rejected.  Books do wear out after use of course, but they do not go poof randomly.

Oh, forgot something in my first post.

I like Riyo's idea of study and read options. But not only could the study option be the one that might cause damage to the book (not going to say destroy it, because I want that to go away for good!), but it would take real time to study it.  Not just one second and go on to the next, but hours!

And yes, Cory, I like the idea of training manuals too. But training manuals should be more readily available than premium books, even if they're as rare as the planet swords.  AND, those could be made without putting stories in them unless there was a story to put in them!

By the way... whatever happned to those random events where you got planet swords? I haven't heard of anyone finding one since V2. Those ever getting put back?

Ask Patrick to make a credit shop item where when you read a book, if you have this item, you can check a little box to use it. Be creative and come up with a name for it because I certainly won't. What it'll do is ensure that no matter what, that one book you read using this item will not explode. It can be like 50 or 100 credits per 5 items.

At least this way, it'll be simpler and you'll have to pay to make sure your book doesn't delete itself or whatever. With the "worn" meter it doesn't make sense to have to read the same book an average of 25-30 times just for it to explode or whatever the concept is.
