I, for one, love debating. :D And i think it'd be nice to have something like this. I'm not saying this is a column for quarrels or fights and spewing profanities, perhaps just a little reasoning over a certain topic some of us disagree with. Of course if things get out of hand any staff member can choose to delete the entire thread itself. :) Perhaps for all the forum sections, at the side of the thread there can be a 'move to debate column' button, and sometimes if you feel bored you can find a friend and a topic the both of you disagree with and post it in the debate column and as more people read these threads, you can have an entire debate team yourself. XD

Of course this also may not be a very good idea because it may be used as a chance to disagree with other players and blow it all up and make a mountain out of a molehill. As for that, we can have a thread of rules stating stuff like:

1. There will be no vulgarities or profantites.
2. Heated arguments that threaten to get out of hand, or are already out of hand, will be locked by staff.
3. There will be no name-calling (kay, this one's kinda dumb. XD)

And so on, and so forth. Then again, a column like this would be suited for older players, frankly speakng, because younger players might not fully understand the concept of debating as a 'friendly quarrel' i might say, if it's even possible, and may get angry and worked up over disagreements or statements they feel too strongly against. This debate column could have an age limit, say, 13?

EDIT 1: About the age limit, i am fully aware of people lying about their ages and such. Maybe, we could have a test (entry test) like 'how do you define a 'debate?' and it could be MCQ, and those with 80% of the answers correct, gain access to the debate column. :D

I'd be happy to discuss negative points and problems in my idea and if possible, solve it. :D Problems then have been put up, depending on how important they are, will be put on this post here as well, most probably. :) Support or problem or not, thank you for reading through this looong loong post, and have a nice day/night/24 hours ahead of you. :D

Debating on the internet is always a bad idea.

Asking kids to 'friendly quarrel' is just asking for a flame war or hard feelings. I'm not saying that there aren't people who are perfectly capable of debating and keeping good rapport with each other on this site...

I'm just saying that a pet site isn't the place for debates. In a community this big, having bad blood between people for silly stuff like this can sour the atmosphere.

Personally, I don't mind a debate once in a while, but there's sites for that elsewhere.

I would have to say no support. As druu said, debsting on the internet is never a good idea. People are prone to type things that they would not otherwise say to someone's face. Although I'm sure there are plenty of mature users who would not make it a problem, it would end up being more trouble than it's worth. Most users on petsites are younger and will not take the debates with a grain of salt, so a petsite is not the best place for any forum centered around "Friendly quarrels".

I actually like reading other people's debates on forums.

But I kind of doubt that it would work on Res due to the amount of younger players. Looks like I'm sticking to Subeta for debate watching.

I would like this, but I don't support merely for the fact that it's too easy to mistake someone's intentions over the internet.  They could be saying something calmly, but others could take it as a rude comeback.  I know beliefs would end up getting mixed in...nobody wants that, it would really turn into heated arguments.  I love debating, but I've been in too many misunderstandings to really support this.  Sorry.

I have to say no support for the reasons already stated. No real reason to say anything else. Sorry, I'm sure there are plenty of actual "Debate" forums online that you can join.

And people will always cheat on tests. Always. T_T;
