Every year I always enjoyed watching
The children giggle as they opened their presents.
The Christmas air in the den
would always be ever so pleasant.

But this year was the first year my sisters were all grown,
little children they were not.
And as I helped put up the Christmas tree,
though I was excited, there was a spot.

A spot in my heart that ate at me,
telling me that there was no more.
No more of the children's smiles,
no more of the toys galore.

But then who walked in,
but my friend's brother, no more than two years old.
I watched as he "Wow"ed at the Christmas tree,
His little mouth turn into a capital 'O.'

So finally I understood,
Why I was feeling so bad inside.
It was because I felt though I was missing a meaning of Christmas.
The true meaning- A child.

We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip.
