Not happy at all with the third stanza Dx

Bold shows revision.

____

Softly lay me down to sleep,

And pray that when I wake,

Dotted hillsides overflower

No more misty autumn showers.

Softly lay me down to sleep,

Hoping that tonight

Summer will return again

After these eyes shut tight.

Now softly lay me down to sleep,

Knowing that tomorrow

Will bring naught ‘cept sleet and fog,

Fraught with brown and yellow

Softly lay me down to sleep,

And know one day against all hope

One day when the frost shall choke

And brown shall smother and suffocate,

Know one day against all hope

Summer comes again.
