I seriously don't want to clutter up my thread...understatement, seeing as how no one will commission me. xD

Snicker
(For Witchy)

Harsh sunlight hit my moonlike eyes and I let out a pitiful chirp. The scents and sounds that a.ssailed me from the crack I had recently made in my egg were too overwhelming. Everything about this new world that lay outside the thin shell the encased me half scared me to death. A soft tweet sailed through my beak again, but this time, my cry was answered. I recognized the sturdy, but sweet chirp as my mother’s and my eyes flew open. In a heartbeat, I broke off the rest of my encasement and was fully blinded by the new light. As my eyes adjusted, my mother wrapped her wings around me, murmuring softly with care in her words. I blinked up at her and the sunlight burned my new eyes. I felt my face twist a bit and my mother chuckled.

"Little one, did you just snicker?" she asked, though I barely understood her words, only listening to the soothing sound of her voice.

"That’s it. We’ll call you Snicker," someone else said, a deep throaty tweet that I recognized as my father.

"Snicker," I said, testing out the word. I grinned and my mother nuzzled me with tender love.

"That’s right."

PinkFox
(For Loki)

Entry 17: 8 pm

Pink again. Kozuri and I are halfway through training. I can’t believe we only met a few months ago; we’re closer than brothers. (Or so I believe) We’re receiving updates on our status in the war, and to tell you the truth, it’s not looking too good on our end. Kozuri’s worried, I can tell, but he attempts to hide it from me. He probably still thinks he can protect me, but we’re in the midst of a war. I have reason to believe they’re going to pull our party out of training early and stick us in battle. Our side needs the allies. Everyone knows that our party is ready. Gotta go.

- Pink

Entry 21: 11 pm

More updates on the war. Our party has been driven off of Scria. The main battles are on my home planet, Reiflem. We’re currently evacuating the residents on that planet. Our squad is heading into the battle tomorrow and I’m feeling a bit anxious. Sometimes I wonder if I made a mistake coming here, but then again, I wouldn’t have met my friend Kozuri. I have a feeling we’ll be buds even after this whole war is over. We’ll be alright. I can feel it.

- Pink

Entry 22: 4 am

We’re at the camp now and the battlefield is only about five miles away. Tension is high around the camp because our odds aren’t good. We’ll stay strong. We’ve become brothers throughout this training and we’ll fight to the death for each other. Kozuri is still as supportive and thoughtful as ever. I don’t share the same optimism anymore.

- Pink

Entry 23: 5 am

I know it’s very soon for another entry, but we’re departing for ground zero now. Wish us luck.

- Pink

Entry 24: A fortnight later at 9 pm

The battle is over. There were so many casualties; more than we expected. I won’t ever forget the battle, but I must write it down. This…will be my last entry.

Entry 25: The Battle

We had hiked for miles over the rough terrain of Reiflem. I glanced down at the water bottle in my paws and tipped the bottle back up, the water trickling down my snout as I gulped it down greedily. A rough pat on the back made me choke on the water and spit it on the rocky ground. I flicked my cream colored Veram ears as Kozuri walked in front of me. He sat down on the rock in front of me and I swallowed what little water was still in my mouth.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked me and I flicked my paw in his direction, taking another swig of my water as I did so. I rubbed the beads of sweat that had formed on my forehead.

"Pink, no matter what happens in this war, promise me you won’t let yourself change. You’re a good person, Pink. War can change people for worse." he said and I blinked, surprised by his sudden forwardness on the subject.

"I promise, Kozuri." I answered, knowing I could never let him down. He stood, his eyes seemingly ancient with sadness, and he walked away. I watched him walk across our temporary camp, his brown Veram wings shuffling with anxiety on his back. His tail twitched anxiously and I knew my milky cream one was mimicking the movements.

"Alright; Demi-squad one, you’ll be heading in first." our commander said. Kozuri and I lined up behind our buddies, having been placed in the demi-squad. I hooked the claws on my paws together. I unhooked them. I hooked them. This seemed to go on for a while as we were briefed on our mission.

We were to relieve the squad that was already over there and try to put the enemy’s forces back, eventually causing them to retreat. When our commander sent the signal for our departure from our camp and into the battlefield, the air grew tense. I followed the others and we walked for a few minutes, the screeches and wails of those in combat already being heard to our sensitive ears.

The battle was like nothing we had ever seen before. We could barely determine friend from foe from above and I had no idea how I would tell while in combat. I shuddered and our demi-squad leader gave a hushed signal for us to charge. I added my howl to the chorus of battle-cries as we charged into the battle.

My sharpened claws slashed through flesh and I used all maneuvers that I had learned in training. At some intervals of the battle, I would take to the skies and attack from above. We were pushing their forces back and a ghost of a smile tugged at the corners of the grimace on my mouth.

As I slashed through the throat of one of my enemy’s throats, the clatter of the battle around me dinned. One cry above all others caused me to whip around. I saw, with horror splayed on my face, that one of the enemies had managed to open a jagged wound in Kozuri’s stomach. I watched as he blinked at the wound, shock registering on his face, before he slumped down to the ground.

"No!" I screeched as I ran toward Kozuri, pushing my way through the cluster of bodies as I did so. I stumbled over a few fallen brethren before finally making my way to my friend. Tears streaked down my cheeks, becoming a soft pink as it mixed with the blood on my snout. He reached up a paw toward me and I grabbed it in mine, the blood-stained fur mixing with mine.

"Remember what I said," he whispered to me and I heard him even over the clatter of war.

"Kozuri, you can’t go." I said, but his eyes were already dull. I closed his eyes and let my hand rest on his chest for a moment, my tears falling on his face.

"Good-bye, Kozuri." I said and I disappeared into the midst of the war.

Vita and Iusa
(For Fenikkusu)

"Come on, Iusa," whined Vita as the albino paor reached for his bag. He grimaced at the tone she was using, knowing it wouldn’t be a day he favored. Vita scratched the back of her neck as she waited for the paor. The sun’s golden rays gleamed down on the planet of Atquati, promising a beautiful day at the beach. Iusa was regretting the suggestion that they take advantage of the sun and head down to the water for the day. The Paor sighed, knowing he wasn’t being very fair to the Meiko. The two had been friends for a while and what would he have done, had she not been there for him.

"I’m just getting the stuff together, Vita." Iusa answered as he stuffed a few towels in the bag. He hefted the straps of the backpack onto his shoulders and met the Meiko outside of his house. As the screen door swung shut behind them, Iusa and Vita began to head toward the beach. Iusa opened his mouth to speak, but Vita cut him off, not realizing what she had done.

"Iusa, what if someone recognizes us at the beach! We could sign autographs and get mobbed by fans. I mean, we’re albino Creatu. A lot of the other Creatu look up to us and wow, this is going to be great. Wait until they see me flying above the water. Vita, the albino Meiko, takes a trip to the beach and does a free air show for the people on the beach. Great newspaper article ti
tle, am I right?" she asked Iusa and he sighed.

"It’s a bit long if you ask me," he said, attempting to ignore the fact that Vita hadn’t included him in that short story at all. Vita hardly seemed to notice his non-existent enthusiasm and she drawled on with her fantasy, though it was more than likely to come true. Even before Iusa had become friends with Vita, she was the talk of the century. A lot of the albino Creatu of Res was well-known because there were so few of them. Vita had been so caught up in fame; she hadn’t seemed to notice that Iusa was drifting away from her.

"Come on, we’re almost there. Maybe we should fly in and make a grand entrance," she said.

"Vita, you know I can’t fly." The paor reminded her and Vita shook her head, but she quieted down about the flying. Iusa and Vita walked onto the wooden paths that led over the sand dunes and would eventually lead them toward the beach. Iusa shifted the weight of the backpack onto his other shoulder, the pack seeming to become heavier the longer he carried it around.

The dunes opened up to a wide expanse of flat sand and about forty feet out lay the ocean. The waves lapped gently at the shore, promising calm waters and peaceful swimming. Rays from the sun beat down graciously on the beach, making Iusa and Vita stand out even more. A few murmurs around them soon turned into a harsh chatter as their arrival spread.

None of the Creatu approached, however, but for that Iusa was thankful. Vita, on the other hand, looked dismayed. She waved at a few of the Creatu and a couple of them jumped up and walked over toward her. A stunning black Veram and a blonde Meiko walked up to them. Vita greeted them with a bat of her eyes and Iusa snorted. Vita gave the Paor a look that clearly indicated, "What’s your problem?"

Iusa shrugged and broke away from the small group that was forming around Vita, feeling a bit down. He set his backpack down on the sand about fifteen feet from where the hungry waves pawed at the shore. With one glance back at Vita, Iusa dismissed the event and approached the water. The albino dipped his hind paws in the water and eventually waded into the water up to his waste.

He glanced back at Vita, hoping she would see him and possibly join him in his time spent in the ocean. His mouth dropped open as he saw her walking away with her small group of followers. Anger raged through him then and he realized he needed to confront Vita. Right now, he was going to make her choose between the fame and him. He waded out of the water and shook out his fur before angrily stalking off toward the crowd.

"Vita," he called, but she was too busy chattering with her fans. He pushed through a few of them, catching a few threats as he did so. Once he made it through the small circle of Creatu, he stalked up to Vita herself.

"What are you doing Iusa and why are you wet?" she asked, though he could tell her mind wasn’t on him. Her eyes kept straying back to the crowd and she gave them million dollar smiles.

"Vita, what’s happened to you? You’re so caught up in fame, you haven’t even realized that you’re losing your best friend," he said sadly and she frowned. This had caught her attention and his heart hurt to know that it took that to have her notice him.

"What do you mean, Iusa? We’re famous," she answered and he sighed.

"No, Vita. You’re famous and you let it get the best of you," he said to her.

Vita laughed then and it wasn’t a heart-filled laugh, but a shrilly roll-your-eyes laugh. Iusa glared at her and waited to hear what she had to say.

"You know what, Iusa? That’s fine. I’m perfectly fine being who I am and you were only bringing me down," she said to him. She called to her fans and left Iusa standing there on the beach. Iusa watched as one of his best friends, or used to be best friend, walked out of his life. He sat down on the sand, then and realized that he would be better off without Vita. He could be a better person and wouldn’t stand as a shadow to her.

"Good-bye, Vita." He said as he watched the sun touch the ocean waves, making the rippling water shimmer with gold and silver flecks. Nothing was more beautiful than that and without Vita, Iusa could finally see that.

Foxwhisker
( For Ginger )

The scents of the forest swirled around me and I perked my ears, hoping to catch the murmur of the leaves as they rustle in the wind. I closed my eyes and let the drone of the forest wash over my pelt. My yard was not fenced in like the other kittypets that live in the area. I padded onward, my light colored paws ginger and hesitant as they stepped over the dead bracken of the forest. My eyes were wide and alert as I journeyed through the new territory. I craned my neck backward as I paused in my step. The dim glow of my twoleg nest was warm and welcoming, but the wild cat inside of me urged me to continue my path. I felt myself begin to walk among my true ancestors of StarClan.

A rustle to my right caused my neck fur to rise. I whipped around, ready to face the attacker. A ginger cat stepped in front of me, its ex
pression guarded. "Don’t hurt me," I managed to squeak and the cat’s ex
pression gentled.

"Do not worry. I am Foxwhisker and I see you’ve been getting along in the forest quite well." Foxwhisker said while seeming to think about something as the ginger cat twitched its whiskers. "Follow me and I’ll show you ThunderClan camp," the cat mewed, a soft sparkle in her eyes. I felt a shiver run through me, but I found it was pure exhilaration. Nodding obediently, I followed the cat as it walked through the forest.

It was only until Foxwhisker said something that I noticed we were being accompanied. "Greystripe, would you please alert the clan so they know of our new arrival?" the cat said as yet another cat melted from the shadows. The gray tom had thick fur and light eyes. His muscles were lean and tone from the harsh life of the clan and a few battle scars could be seen on his pelt.

Greystripe nodded to Foxwhisker and loped off into the forest. Thereafter, Foxwhisker and I found ourselves on the outskirts of the camp. Mews and paw steps could be heard from under the bracken. I stepped eagerly into the gorse tunnel and found my paws leading me into the camp.

Few heads turned toward me, but I didn’t notice. All around me, the clan was bustling with activity. My tail-tip twitched in excitement as I glanced around the camp. A young tabby cat with a mottled brown coat padded past me. I saw the tip of the pink tail of a mouse hang out from its jaws. The cat rested the fresh-kill on a pile with a variety of other kills. The makings of the Clan made my eyes light with awe.

"Hey, newcomer," said a friendly she-cat voice. I turned and saw a tortoiseshell she-cat walking toward me. Her green eyes were soft and welcoming as she acknowledged my presence. She sat down next to me and wrapped her tail around her paws.

"Wonderful, isn’t it?" she asked as she pointed her chin to the other clan members.

"Amazing," I found myself saying.

"I could show you around if you want," she said as she shuffled her paws on the ground. My eyes lit up and her whiskers twitched with amusement.

"Follow me," she said as she stood. I followed her wordlessly. She chattered about the jobs of the warriors and the apprentices. When I asked her which one she was, she purred and informed me that she was a medicine cat. I listened as she told me of their ancestors in StarClan and how there are three other clans. She was ecstatic about my enthusiasm and gladly showed me the rest of the camp. By nightfall, I was allowed to stay in the apprentices den because it was too unsafe to travel.

I lay in my nest with the scents and murmurs of the forest swirling around my pelt. The spacious room filled with the rustling bodies of other cats gave me a sense of belonging and I found myself not wanting to leave. I knew now that my home was ThunderClan

For the Starcatchers
(The Wishkeeper)

A shooting star brings the darkened sky aflame with light. Hues of reds shimmer as the blaze of the star trails lazily across the sky. Another star sparks and lights up, this time sparks of blue electricity popping out of it. Soon, the sky is alight with colors as if fireworks are being set out. As the stars shoot through the air, a few people come outside. They look up at the stars and find a special one they like. The people take out specially equipped nets for catching wishes and they fish their chosen wish out of the sky. With care, they take the wish and breathe a few soft words into it before releasing it back to the sky. The star flees back to a wisher, their wish granted.

 We are the Starcatchers.

Spring in Scria
(For NightmareDream)

Wind beneath their wings
The Drindians will sing
Their voices rise into the sky;
A melody that rises high

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

Clouds beneath their hooves
The Meragons run loose
Shaping the clouds;
Their heads held proud

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

From their dens, Kayoki’s spring
Eager to see what spring will bring
Among their kin, they start to chitter
No longer feeling winter’s bitter

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

Electric sparks fly from their claws
The Zaphao bellow with mighty roars
Showering light among their home
Telling all it is their own

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

Scuttling about the ground
The Intes try to make no sound
Their silence is their thoughtful way
To say all they need to say

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

The Mirabilis laugh and play
Enjoying Scria’s new spring day
Again, they begin to click their beaks
And shower others with Spring Treats

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

The Valabex emerge at last
Feeling the new air with a blast
Gently grazing on the gra.ss
They are glad that winter has finally pas.sed

The clouds are dense
The air, not tense
The rain comes near
For spring is here

Saving Aurora
(Contest for Becky)

Saving Aurora

Droplets of water cascaded down the back of a magenta Ahea. The mysterious creature shook the rest of the water from its taut, rubbery-like skin. The marshy ground beneath its webbed feet provided comfort to the creature as it examined its surroundings. The comforting smell of the Atquati Sea wafted from behind her and the magenta Creatu glanced back for a moment. In that split second, the Ahea pondered the thought of returning back to her watery home, but the promise of excitement and adventure won out. With a swift flick of her tail, the Creatu padded onward, its feet making the soaked mud squelch as she padded on. She sniffed the air and a delicious scent sprung its way to her senses. She turned and spotted a bush in full bloom; the scent was coming from the plant. Cautiously, the Ahea crept closer. She sniffed the bush and her mouth watered when she recognized the scent of Atquati berries. She nipped a few off of the bush, the burst of flavor in her mouth satisfying her stomach. When she dipped her head down for another bite, a cry rose into the air.

The Ahea craned her neck, her eyes alert and her senses tuned in. She froze when she heard another wail screech through the air. Without any hesitation, the Ahea leaped after the sound. She raced along the marshy ground, her long legs giving her more speed, but her frailty on land caused her to stumble. She staggered over the marshy ground and trailed after the noise; the wails becoming louder as she approached. Nestled in a dry bed of leaves lied a baby Omni. The Ahea dipped her head down toward the creature and as the Omni sensed her presence, it let out a squeak of fear. The Ahea let out a soft croon and the Omni’s cries ceased. It stumbled toward her and clung to her leg. The Ahea let out a surprised croak before leaning down and nudging the Omni with her nose.

"Hush, little one. My name is AuroraGirl. I’m here for you," she said gently as she scooped the Omni up on her neck. The pitiful creature clung to the velvety magenta skin, feeling comforted at last. The vulnerable creature let out a soft sigh of content and curled up on AuroraGirl’s back.

~~~
10 Years Later
A childish laugh escaped through Bur the Omni as he plunged into the waters of Atquati. He dove into the deep and used his keen senses to navigate through the water’s. In a shower of water, he exploded back onto the surface. He shook his head to clear the water from his face and scented the air. The soft scent of flowers that resembled his mother came to his left. He turned that way and headed inland. His paws sank through the marshy ground and he snorted in distaste.
"I see you’re up and about," grinned Aurora as she spotted her adoptive son heading her way.
"Mhm; I am," he stated as he grinned. The shadowy aura of his mother was an image in his head. When she turned her head to the side, it took him a moment to register the movement. Though the creature, being an Omni, was blind, he could still detect the aura of others as long as he could scent and hear them. "And I was wondering if we could go to the forest today," he said as he sat down against the ground.
"We’ll see about that, Bur. I’ve been feeling unwell lately. Maybe we’ll go after I rest a bit," she said as she sat down into her makeshift bed. Because of her adoption of Bur, she had to make a small camp for them on the shores of the Atqueen forest. Bur was a land dweller and therefore could not live with her in the comforting currents of the deep. The Magenta Ahea shook her head to clear the troublesome thoughts and instead let her head rest against the marshy ground.
With his instinct, Bur knew something was wrong with his foster mother. He knelt down beside her and let his nose rest of her forehead. The skin was burning hot and Bur jumped back, surprised. Aurora turned on her side and cracked open an eye. "Bur, I feel very weak," she said softly, the breath barely a whisper as it pas.sed by her lips.
Bur flinched at the words, wanting this moment to disappear and for Aurora to stand back up; healthy and renewed. Instead, he rubbed his nose against her cheek and let a tear roll down his cheek. "Is there anything I can do?" he asked her, begging for there to be some way to stop this illness from taking her life.
"Blessed flowers, Bur. They have magical qualities that can heal others," she croaked out.
"I’ll find them for you," Bur promised. He pushed himself back to his paws, though his movements were weak as he faced the task before himself.
Okay, Bur. Where is the most likely place you’ll find Blessed Flowers? he thought to himself as he let his senses roll over the area. The dense space of trees that clouded most of his senses led to his answer and he felt renewed hope enter his thoughts. The forest; Atqueen Forest.
~~~

The distinct yet mysterious scent that the Atqueen Forest gave off provided Bur with a sense of comfort. Ever since Aurora had found him, he had always longed to explore the vast expanse of trees and undergrowth. New surprised waited around every corner and the essence of the forest had always brought peace to his mind on the most troubling of times. Memories of Aurora and him exploring the forest flooded his mind. Along with those memories came all of the times that Aurora took care of him when he needed her most; She had found him in his time of need, had given him food during the coldest of winters and hunger gnawed at their stomachs, and had given him love. He would not be here without her and his ties to the Ahea were unbreakable.

Bur paused in his steps as a rustle in the bushes nearest to him began to shake. He crouched down to the ground, wanting to remain hidden from whatever creature laid before him. A long tusk poked out from the branch and Bur frowned, not recognizing the scent of the creature. The rest of the Creatu strolled out from among the bushes and hesitated, scenting Bur among the leafy ground.

Bur stood calmly, though his stature was wary. He could feel the Creatu recoil in shock as Bur’s ma.ssive form came into view. "Why, hello there. You’re an Omni, aren’t you?" the creature asked as its first wave of fear pa.ssed. "I’m DarkestDepths, the Trance Narwi. What would someone like you be doing in Atquati Forest?" he pondered as he sat down again.

The Omni mimicked the Narwi’s movements and sat down. "I’m Bur and I’m on a quest. My foster mother has fallen ill and I need to find Blessed Flowers for her before she…" he said but broke off, unable to complete the ending to the sentence. DarkestDepth’s sympathetic aura comforted Bur a bit, but he was surprised when the Narwi spoke up again.

"I would be glad to help you on your quest, Bur. I happen to know someone who has plenty of Blessed Flowers. She lives here in the forest," he said.

Bur felt a smile dance along his lips as he stood again. The urgency of his mission intensified when DarkestDepths told him that he knew where the Blessed Flowers were. "I would be sincerely grateful if you could help me, friend," said Bur and he could feel DarkestDepths smile.

The pair set off along the forest yet again with DarkestDepths hobbling through the undergrowth ahead. The Narwi moved at a slow pace, its body definitely not an ideal form to be in the forest. This observation sparked curiosity in Bur. He voiced the question aloud and the Narwi chuckled.

"Bur, I’m an adventurer. I’ve been to the fiery pits of Reiflem, the airy space of Scria, and the Industrial land of Relcore. The Creatu you meet and the places you see are amazing and I’m glad I’ve spent my life roaming the planets," he stated and Bur found himself liking the Narwi even more.

"I’m an adventurer myself, but I’ve never thought of visiting the other planets," Bur said as they walked on.

"You have the perfect adventurer’s body, Bur. You would never regret traveling around the worlds," the Narwi said. He quickened his pace and Bur felt that their journey was almost complete. He hoped that Aurora was holding on okay because he had no idea what he would do if he returned home without her being there.

The canopy of trees opened up to a small clearing and DarkestDepths called out into the forest. "OtulissaSnow, I am in need of some a.ssistance. It is important," the Narwi crooned.

A pale figure glided down from a branch in one of the trees. Her slender white body was covered with beautiful snow-white feathers. The tips on her wings were a midnight black and ruffled in the slight breeze; the sounds comforting like the rustle of leaves. Bur took an immediate liking to the Uilus as he held his gaze into her jade green eyes.

"What can I do for you?" she replied in a soft coon as she padded warily up to them.

"I need some Blessed Flowers for my mother. She’s very ill," Bur said with a hint of sadness in his voice. "OtulissaSnow, I need these flowers; truly, I do." he said to her and the Uilus nodded slowly. She stood up softly and spread out her wings before leaping into the air. Bur gasped as her form rose into the sky. Her feathers danced in the wind as she plunged back into the trees. When she rose again, a bundle of flowers hung from her beak.

She flapped her wings softly before gently landing on the ground again. Bur rushed up to her and she handed the flowers to him. "Let her eat the leaves of the Flowers. They’ll heal her sickness," she said softly and Bur blinked with gratefulness. Before he could give thanks, OtulissaSnow swept herself into the sky again and disappeared into the forest.

"Let’s get you home," said DarkestNight as his eyes trailed after her magnificent form.

~~~
Bur knelt beside Aurora once again and sucked in a tight breath. The Ahea was worse off than when he had left. Her breaths came in shallow pants and her muscles clenched as pain wracked her chest. Bur hastily plucked the leaves off of the Blessed Flowers and gently nudged them into Aurora’s mouth. She swallowed the sweet tasting flowers and Bur waited.
After a few hours, Aurora’s breathing came back to normal. Her measured breathing was softer and slower as she slept. Bur watched over her well past nightfall and into the next morning. When the sun peaked over the horizon, Aurora cracked open a soft blue eye and smiled.
Zafra
(Contest for Meelanya)
"Prove it," muttered the silver Veram as he playfully knocked into his rose Zaphao friend. The Zaphao frowned and gave an indignant huff before launching himself at the Veram. He nipped at the Veram’s ears, electric sparks dancing from the horns on his head. The Veram pushed his friend off and shook out his wings, dust swirling into the air as he did so. The open desert with which the friends had been traversing lay about them on all sides.
The Zaphao blinked and cast his gaze into the now pink-tinged sky. The last rays of the son shimmered over the horizon and the two Creatu set down their packs to watch. They nodded to each other; knowing they should set up their encampment. As the Zaphao pitched up the tents, the Veram busied himself with setting up a campfire. He waved his friend over and the Zaphao lit up the blue electricity that sizzled in his paws. With a quick spark that shot from his outstretched claws, the Zaphao struck the dwindling tinder logs that they had been lugging across the desert.
"Tell me again, Felnix, why we’re lugging this firewood across the desert?" asked the rose Zaphao. Felnix shrugged and sat down heavily into the sand, weary from the day’s travelling. The rose Zaphao shot a withering glance at his friend before falling back onto his haunches. He rested his head against his paws as he sank down to the ground, the heat of the fire welcome as the desert was shrouded by darkness.
"Crym, I was telling the truth about the Kioka," murmured Felnix as he basked in the heat of the flames; the desert growing colder by the moment. Crymson snorted and raised his head, his pupil-less eyes rolling as he huffed. "No, really; I swear I’ve seen her before."
"Right, Fel. Just get some sleep," he muttered as he closed his eyes again.
~~~

The swirling darkness of the desert sky seemed like a dark void, swallowing all light up from below. Silence dominated the rolling dunes of the desert; the minor dust devils creating soft echoing noises of gentle winds. The creature that seemed to glide over the grainy sand did not break the everlasting silence of the nighttime world of the desert. Instead, she tilted her head back and gazed into the sky, painting images of the stars in her head; the visions displayed before her eyes.

She lifted a foreleg and closed her eyes, drinking in the scents of the desert and the hushed cry of the sand scraping over itself as it rolled in the wind. Her hooves did not disrupt the flow of the grains of sand that swayed over endless amounts of land. Instead, she stepped into the air. Her hooves kicked at the air, but the movement was not shaky; controlled, confident. The words rang through her head as her black body slipped into the matching shadows of the night.

When she reached her peak in the air, her eyes wandered over a distant fire burning harshly on the ground below. A soft breath of wind pa.ssed through her doe-like snout and the fire was put out. A creature behind the fire stirred and she shivered as she felt his gaze linger on her.

She closed her eyes as she focused on her sense of being. In one fluid toss of her head, the ribbons around her body began to glow and pulse with brilliant colors. Faded markings on her body began to shine and the Kioka kicked herself into the air. She stepped on invisible footholds in her path and wherever her hooves touched, bolts of light shot from the air and into the sky. Every move she made created new shining rays of pure energy in the sky. The Kioka began to paint her canvas, the brilliancy of the stars reaching their full potential as her light resurfaced them to the brink of the veil of shrouded darkness.

She made her way across the sky, the sky beginning to lighten with the diminishing darkness and beautiful extravaganza of color. She stroked her way through the air, the ribbons that wound around her body stretching out to their full glory and leaving small trails of light behind them. The momentum of her steps began to fade and her markings pulsed with a sense of purity. She tossed her head into the sky, rearing as she did so, and shot upward.

Her ribbons fanned out behind her, leaving the air space ablaze with color behind her. Her upward movement melded into becoming an arch and the Kioka sped back down to the welcoming sands of the desert. She streaked toward the ground at a breathtaking speed, her form resembling a comet as radiant as the sun.

Her hooved barely brushed against the grains of sand as she stood a few centimeters above the ground. Again, she cast her gaze into the sky and surveyed the endless horizon. Her canvas was personified by its awe-inspiring starlight and the lingering color in the sky dispersed to shimmers of light as they fell to the ground. Satisfied with her untimely work, the Kioka let her ribbons lose their radiant sheen as they wrapped around her once more. Her markings began to dull and she let her hooves touch the ground.

The beauty would linger in the sky until the sun slowly manifested again. Until then, the painted stars would shine with a brilliance only this Kioka could muster. When the next night would come around, she would appear from the sands of the earth and let the darkened sky lighten with her beauty.

Felnix awoke the next morning feeling more than rested. He leaped to his feet and fanned out his wings as he stretched. His eyes caught on his friend’s still form. His brows furrowed as he glanced at his friend’s eyes. He attempted to follow the Zaphao’s gaze, but all he saw was the early morning sky.

"Felnix?" asked Crymson.

"Yes?" he asked, his brows arched as he looked at his friend in bewilderment.

"What is her name; the Kioka you told me about?"

"Why?"

"I must know," he answered, his soft eyes unblinking.

"Zafra," whispered Felnix.
