Proluge.

A young girl looks up, faces her Mom, and says, "Mommy, don't i have a Daddy?"

The young mother sighs. They were at the beach, admiring the waves slapping onto the golden sand, and the purple sky was creating a masterpiece. However, the silence was eerie, and the mother said, "Kiri, you have one, just...Daddy's busy."

I'm Kiri, and this is my story.

Chapter 1

  I was twenty, a senior in high school. I was most popular, and my pals, Harmony, Abigail and Fiona were too. But my secret was revealed; I didn't have a father.

Why? It all crashed down on me. I buried my face in my hands, thinking why I had to endure such a fate. The bell rang, and i went back to cla'ss.

Bible was first. It talked about Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Somehow, in the room, all the paintings had no fathers, but just a mother and child. Had Jesus lost his father?

I dragged my bag home, throwing it on the floor, racing up to my bedroom and writing in my diary.

 Dear Diary,

Have I a father? I sure hope so. My friends all have; and it hurts me to see them running to their fathers happily, acting like three-year-olds.

Kiri

I go down to eat lunch. Lunch was porridge with clumps of fish in it. There were four lumps bigger than the others, which seems like a family, three of the clumps huddled together while one drifted away. It seemed like the three resembled me, Mom, and my sister, Charmaine. The one drifting away seemed like Dad, who, to me, seemed foreign.

I raced up to my room again and slept through the whole day, downing my worries.
