Prologue

Moonlight trickled in the den in between the rocks that made up the roof. Eilir watched her mate and the beta male argue. "We have to move our territory or we'll be invaded!"
"Leonitus, you may be alpha but the pack has a say too. Also, it's such a long process and I don't think our pups can make that. Do you really want to risk them? Especially when two are your own?"
"Orion!" Eilir cried. He knew she couldn't be with her pups until they were old enough. "You have no right to just-"
"Shh, Eilir. Do you hear that?" The alpha moved slowly to the front of the den where a scout sat. "What, we're having a meeting?"
"They are coming for their own meeting, sir." Leonitus looked over at his mate, obviously distressed. Eilir followed him responsively; Orion followed the alpha female and nodded for his mate to come too. Eilir just hoped for safety for the pack; Leonitus just wanted to stand his ground and to chase them off the grounds.

Chapter 1

Taini, Mitena, Ranulf, and Faolan watched carefully as an adult walked by the nursery den. They could only see the legs and the shaggy fur of its underbelly but, they acted as ‘look-outs’or scouts anyway. It was until Mitena tackled Faolan that Tlalli, the chief nurse, barked, “Get away from there or be quiet.”
“Tlalli,” Faolan whined as he struggled to keep Mitena pinned. "We're just practicing for when we're older and we need to find our ranks."
Tlalli picked up Oracle, a smaller female pup that preffered to be near the nurses, and put her in a leaf pile that they used for beds. "Well, do that farther back here, please. I'll get in trouble if you are all too loud." The four padded to the back of the den and layed on their 'beds' and curled up with each other. The five other pups, Oracle, Lux, Noland, Sloane and Amithi, soon came to join them happily. The warmth they shared was vital to their survival.
Taini was going to be the last to drift to sleep when she heard a small bark at the entrance. It wasn't loud enough for any of the sleeping pups to hear but, Tlalli obviously could hear if for she jumped up and scampered to the door. Taini observed the nurse's light brown fur which looked darker in the poor light. The figure outside, a black furred scout, was growling something hushed to Tlalli. Taini quietly got to her paws and headed towards the opening. She pressed her small body agianst the rocky wall as two more nurses switched shifts with the cheif. They layed on either side of the pups and closed their eyes to rest. The small pup kept moving; the opening seemed so vast but, Taini moved carefully and avoided then scout that drew near. She wanted to see the Omega, Gaurev. He interested her; he used to be the alpha of the pack before his mate, Pilialoha, died and Leonitus took over and he became the Omega. Yet, he wasn't picked on as much as their old Omega was, he was almost killed completely. Gaurev was respected highly and had traveled all over when the pack was smaller so, he told amazing stories. Taini crawled on her belly down the tunnel of an enterance to the inner part of the den. She soon heard a low, protective growl from within.

"Gaurev?" She squeeked. "What's going on?"
"Darling, what are you doing here? You startled me," Gaurev came and took her and put her near him to give her warmth. His gray-white fur was thick and she felt as if, if she leaned into him she'd disappear but, she snuggled closer anyway.
"I can't sleep with nurses being exchanged every so moon change. And there's been alot of commotion; I thought you'd know about it."
"I'm farthest from the camp, Dear, I wouldn't have a clue yet. You probably won't need to know if they haven't told you already." Taini could barely hear as she fell asleep.

Gaurev had the sleeping pup in his teeth and was carrying her towards the nursery to return her. He had to go fast or he'd be accused of stealing an easy meal. As he placed Taini at the den's opening and took the breath for him to be able to bark for a nurse, a scout soon approached. "What are you doing, Omega?"
Just because he was a respected Omega, whenever it came to protecting the pack, he was looked down on. "Putting our little escape artist back wher she belongs." Gaurev back for the nurse, who came out to be Firenze, who took Taini inside hurriedly. The scout escourted the Omega back to his den then, left him.

Eilir watched Leonitus walked out of their territory, she stopping in her tracks at the boundary. She was a mutt breed, cross of maned wolf and red wolf, and she wasn't ready to face her native species, let alone her parents. The alpha left her, not caring about his mate but, more the sake of his pack. She soon turned as she saw him finally disappear on the meeting hill. She ran helplessly back to camp.

Chapter 2

Faolan saw the nurse bring her in. Taini knew how to get attention but, she was asleep. He looked at Lux; she was beautiful in this lighting even when she was fast asleep. Her golden fur shined in sunlight and in the dark, it looked dark and mysterious. She was quiet and he didn't talk to her but, he found the right moments to admire her. Ranulf liked Matina but, he wouldn't tell.  Faolan put his head on his paws. He was tired but, couldn't go to sleep.
Who are my parents? He thought, his usaul ponder. In the pack the pups weren't aloud to meet their parents until their first twelve moon cycles were over. At the end of this one, he'd finally get to meet them. He soon drifted off to dream of what they'd look and be like.
The first was violent; the pair lashing out, looking like unwanting demons. The second was peaceful; they were clouds in the sky watching him like Night Spirits. The final one was odd; the couple in the distance hiding in a patch of fog. Every time he tried to run to them they got farther away and the low clouds thickened.
