||Chapter One || Nezera

The dark-colored she-wolf padded through the pack's territory alone. On 'patrol,' as her father had said. At midnight. However, every other patrol was always made up of four or five wolves, but she did this every night. Every night at midnight, the young wolf patrolled the huge territory herself.  It had been her father, the alpha's idea. She knew why, too. She had always been rebellious and disrespectful, challenging her father's ideas. She knew she was probably only out here every night because he hoped that maybe on some morning, she would not return. This had actually started when she was only about six months old. She had been scared to death at first, thinking that enemies would come out of the dark and attack her, but she had been forced to get over it, even though she was right. Sometimes she ran into lone wolves or other animals. Usually she ran, but she had been forced to learn to defend herself until she was a skilled fighter. It was either that, or death. Now, she was a skilled fighter. She usually didn't run from fights anymore.

 She walked through a shallow stream, water splashing under her paws. She reached the other side of it, and looked around. She hadn't seen anything this evening. No lone wolves, no bears, nothing. She was thankful for it. She turned, growling, when she heard footsteps. She looked for the source of the sound with her good eye- her right eye, which was orangeish-red. The other eye was blue, however it was only because she was blind in that eye. It was from a patrol, several months ago. She saw the silhouette of a wolf, it was too dark to see the markings on the wolf, but she could see its green eyes glowing. She kept quiet, and crept toward the wolf. As she got closer, she could see that he was a few different shades of light brown- mostly a brownish color that was nearly white, with some darker brown markings, which were mostly on his face and back. He had pure white markings on his face, chest, belly, and legs.

The wolf was facing the other direction, walking slowly away from her. She was quietly and quickly getting closer to him, and he had no clue. When she was close enough, she snarled and knocked him onto the ground so that she stood over him with her paw on his neck in case he tried to get away. She didn't put any pressure on his neck, and it was more of a threat. He looked up at her, shocked. His eyes showed obvious fear, but other than that, he seemed to remain calm. "Well...hello." He said nervously after a few seconds.

"You had better give me one good reason that I don't kill you, right now." She demanded, ignoring his attempt to be friendly.

"Don't you think that's a little unnecessary?" He asked. When she didn't respond, he asked; "...Who are you?"

She narrowed her eyes. "Nobody important." She snarled.

  "I wanted to know your name." He said.

"I know. It's Nezera." She said. She paused, then added: "It means 'Darkness.'" She said, and took her paw off of his neck.

He rolled over, so that he was just laying down. "Oh. I'm Urion...It means 'Light...'"

Nezera smiled slightly. "It doesn't really sound like we're gonna get along." She watched as Urion sat up. "You should get out of here."
