SAI's all the rage now, don't you agree? I know very well that SAI is a very difficult software to find. There's only one 30 day trial I know of and it's sucks when you can't save after you're finished with it ;(

This tutorial won't land you with that sexy pen tool but I'll give you that awesome blending advantage when it comes to painting, which frankly is the only part I'm interested in anyway.

Step 1

 Download this brush pack: http://adonihs.deviantart.com/art/My-Brush-Pack-118954791

The first two brushes here are awesome, they've got a similar blending feel to the brush tool on SAI

Step 2

Load the brushes on Photoshop, I won't explain; just google it if you don't know.

That's all ;)

I think faking SAI on PS is a lot better than getting the real SAI because SAI doesn't even have a friggin' SOFT LIGHT la
yer setting! You've be able you use filter settings and junk and also use blending options. That brush pack also comes with loads of textural brushes and it even includes a fur brush! One big advantage is that there are a ton more resources available for PS than SAI ('cause SAI, being Japanese; has all it's resources in Japan! Dx)

Woah the above paragraph makes me sound like a nerd Dx

Photoshop Paintings

(This one's incomplete, thus all of it's references are still there)

They look like they've been done on the same software yes? :)

Not to me, but alright. XD;
(Then again it may be because I have my own style on the program that looks much different from yours.)
But if anything I agree with the point you're trying to get across.
I used the trial version of SAI for some time before actually getting the real thing. It gave me time to adjust and choose if the program actually suited my liking.
I personally find it easier than photoshop.
But people shouldn't make first a.ssumptions.
People using photoshop can make just as gorgeous, if not better, works than in SAI.
It all counts on the amount of skill and artistic experience you have.
A program does not make you a better artist.
You are the better artist.

"A program does not make you a better artist.

That seems to be what a lot of people forget (and what I keep telling them D:). They always say "I can't draw because I don't have Photoshop". It's not like Leonardo Da Vinci had Photoshop xD
So if you're an aspiring artist, it's good to keep that in mind.

But personally, I don't use the pen tool (which is what most people seen to aim for) so I guess this isn't really the best tutorial. But Photoshop's got a whole load of unessessary features when it comes to painting; maybe 'cause it's not meant for painting. So y'know more flexibility? And I've been using PS for several years now and it seems that I can't get used to SAI xD
