Soooooo... after I finished my birthday giveaway, I still kept thinking up quiz questions. So I figured I might as well do a semi-regular quiz event. Oh, all right, another reason to give away stuff. :D

1. I will post a list of questions in this thread from time to time, along with a time period (usually 2-3 days) for people to post their answers. When the deadline has passed, I will post the answers and add up the scores. Your score determines the bracket of prizes you can choose from.
2. Please post your answers in bold, colored font so I can see them quickly. Yes, Google is your friend. :D Yes, you CAN edit and revise your answers up until the deadline.
3. Once I have posted your scores, I will tell you to pick two numbers from a certain range. The numbers correspond to your prizes-- which may be a pet, an item, or tu. I will not be posting the list of exact prizes, so this is kind of a lucky pick game-- you won't know what you get until after you've picked them.
4. In case two or more people pick the same numbers in the same bracket, I'll give the item to the person who posted their choice of numbers first, and the other people will have to pick new numbers, so it is essential that you post your choices as soon as possible. Otherwise, please refer to the list of numbers to see which numbers have already been picked and which are still free.

First Wave - CLOSED Note: The answers are not simple statements; there may be two or more elements to each.
1. Aside from being K-pop love songs, what do these songs have in common: "Song for a Fool", "Star", and "My Love". -All three songs were sung by members of CNBlue in their dramas. Jung Yong-hwa sang "Song for a Fool" in You're Beautiful where he played Shin-woo, Kang Min-hyuk sang "Star" in Heartstrings (You've Fallen For Me) where he played Joon-hee, and Lee Jong-hyun sang "My Love" in A Gentleman's Dignity where he played Colin.
2. How about these songs: "I Will Protect You" and "Living Like a Dream". -Both songs were sung by Jaejoong for the soundtracks of dramas where he played the second lead. "I Will Protect You" was for Protect The Boss where he played Cha Mu-won, and "Living Like A Dream" was for Dr. Jin where he played Kim Kyung-tak.
3. What do actors Oguri Shun, Wuchun, and Choi Minho have in common? -They all played drama incarnations of Sano Izumi from the manga Hana Kimi-- Oguri Shun as Sano Izumi in the Japanese version, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e; Wuchun as Zuo Yi Quan in the Taiwanese version, Hanazakarino Kimitachihe; and Choi Minho as Kang Tae-joon in the Korean version, To The Beautiful You.
4. I mentioned two Korean dramas on my profile-- You're Beautiful and Sungkyunkwan Scandal. What are the two things they have in common aside from being Korean dramas? -1. They are both about girls who pretend to be boys and end up having to live closely with boys without being found out. 2. Both have four main characters consisting of one girl and three boys. Oh, and incidentally, the third boy in each drama (Jeremy, Gu Yong-ha) is a scene-stealer. :D
5. What's the connection between the dramas You're Beautiful and Heartstrings (You've Fallen For Me)? -Jung Yong-hwa played second lead Shin-woo in You're Beautiful; Shin-woo lost Mi-nyeo, played by Park Shin-hye, to Tae-kyung, played by Jang Geun-suk, and broke the hearts of many fans who wished they would end up together instead. They got their wish when Heartstrings aired-- Yong-hwa and Shin-hye played Shin and Kyu-won, the lead characters.

Second Wave - CLOSED
1. Vic Chou, Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu were more popularly known as...? -The Taiwanese boy band F4, which means "Flower 4". They had to drop the name due to copyright issues with the author of the manga Hana Yori Dango and used an acronym of their names, JVKV, instead. To do them credit, they hadn't originally intended to form a band at all. They only became known as F4 after they were individually cast inMeteor Garden, the Taiwanese adaptation of the manga. When the drama got a sequel, Meteor Garden 2, the boys as a group sang songs for the soundtrack, so people began thinking of them as a boy band called F4 and the name stuck.
2. What do Park Min-young and GLAM's Dahee have in common? -Well, technically, Min-young is an actress/model and Dahee is an idol. Both, however, played (different, but equally badass) characters named Kim Na-na-- Park Min-young in City Hunter and Dahee in Monstar.
3. How about Ariel Lin, Jung So-min, Sato Aiko and Miki Honoka? What do they have in common? -All of them played drama incarnations of Aihara Kotoko from the manga Itazura na Kiss. Sato Aiko was Kotoko in the 1996 Japanese drama version and Miki Honoka was Kotoko in the 2013 version, Itazura na Kiss - Love in Tokyo. Ariel Lin, on the other hand, was Yuan Xiang Qin in the Taiwanese adaptation It Started With A Kiss and the sequel They Kiss Again. Jung So-min was Oh Ha-ni in the Korean version, Playful Kiss.
4. Name the drama character played by Kamiki Ryunosuke whose name is also misread as "one plus one" (一 十一). -Ninomae Juuichi in Keizoku 2: Spec. He writes his name that way because "ni no mae" means "before two," and the number before two is one. Since "juu ichi" is "eleven," basically he has named himself "one one one", which kind of reflects on his personality.
5. My next favorite Korean band next to CNBlue is F.T. Island. What natural disaster occurred during the filming of the music video for their song "Raining"? -Ironically, it was Typhoon Ketsana, (September 23-30, 2009) which was the most devastating storm to ever hit Manila. FT Island arrived in the Philippines to shoot the MV for "Raining" just before the storm hit and were stranded and out of touch for a while. Thus, the storm clouds seen in the sky of the music video are most probably from Ketsana.
Bonus question: Who is the Hallyu star popularly known as Yon-sama? -Bae Yong-joon. His 2002 drama Winter Sonata was one of the leaders of the Korean Wave and helped create an international audience for Korean dramas and K-pop.

1. This Taiwanese singer/actor has played roles that include a soccer player, a rock star named after a planet, a former idol who's trying to get back into showbiz, and a robot boyfriend. Who is he? (1 pt) -Jiro Wang of Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit. He played, among others, the Nakatsu role in Hanakazori no Kimitachihe, MARS in ToGetHer (which remains one of my favorite T-dramas of all time), Eason in Drama Go Go Go, and the titular character in Absolute Boyfriend.
2. This Japanese TV series was based on a manga about a piano-playing prodigy who forgets everything else when she's all caught up in her music. It created more interest in classical music because of all the classical works played in each episode. What is the ti
tle of this TV series (which also had a two-part movie sequel and a two-episode special)? (1 pt) -Nodame Cantabile, starring Juri Ueno as Megumi "Nodame" Noda and Hiroshi Tamaki as Shinichi Chiaki. I bet if teachers used that drama in Classical Music Appreciation classes, more students would be interested. :D

Fourth Wave - CLOSED (11 pts)
1. This Korean actor had been in the industry for about a decade before he discarded his stage name and began using his real name. Then he got "noticed" and suddenly became leading man material. The role that launched him? A tragic antihero in the sageuk The Great Queen Seon Deok, a character who became a household name so much he also gets mentioned from time to time in other dramas. Who is this actor? (Bonus points if you give his former stage name and the name of the character he played.)(3 pts) - Kim Nam-gil. He started showbiz in 2009 using the stage name Lee Han, playing minor roles. It wasn't until 2008 that he began using his real name, when he got cast in the movie Portrait of a Beauty. That paved the way to get him cast as Bidam in Queen Seon Deok the following year... and the rest is history.
2. K-pop time! This idol from the group behind such songs as "Paradise" and "Destiny" also played roles in the dramas Shut Up Flower Boy Band and Master's Sun. Who is he? (Bonus points if you give his full name and idol group.)(3 pts.) -Kim Myung-soo, better known as L from Infinite, played guitarist Lee Hyun-soo in Shut Up Flower Boy Band and the teenage version of So Ji-sub's character Joo Joong-won in Master's Sun.

tle of the Rose d'Or-winning drama that starred Miss A's Suzy, T-ara's Eun-jung, 2PM's Taecyeon and Wooyoung, IU, and Kim Soo-hyun. (Bonus point if you tell me what set Soo-hyun apart from the others mentioned.)(2 pts) -The six played the main characters in Dream High, which is so far the first and only South Korean production to win a Golden Rose from the international festival Rose d'Or. Kim Soo-hyun is the only non-idol member of the group... and yet he's cast as... but that would be a major spoiler to those who haven't watched the drama yet. :D
Bonus question: Kim Woo-bin is often cast as a rebellious (and kind of extreme) teen, but in one drama, he was cast as the protective oppa... who falls for the girl who calls him oppa anyway. Too bad she only thought of him as, well, the oppa kind of oppa, not the other kind. Which drama was it? (And bonus points if you tell me the original characters that Woobie's character was based on.) (3 pts.) -Woobie played Kim Jung-hoon, aka Johnny Kim, Sulli's character Jae-hee's "Johnny oppa" in To The Beautiful You. He's based on Gilbert Lang (the first love) and Akiha Hara (the nosy pro photographer) in the manga Hanakazori no Kimitachi e. And so far, this seems like the rare instance that Woobie doesn't play a high-schooler... Johnny oppa is a college dropout/professional photographer. Fifth Wave - CLOSED (5 pts)
1. This Korean actress who was in one of Lee Seung-gi's early music videos wasn't only a "sweet spy," she was "invincible," and very recently, a "goddess of marriage." Who is she? :D (1 pt) -Nam Sang-mi. She was in the music video for "Words That Are Hard To Say" (also called "Difficult Words To Say"). She also played the lead characters in Sweet Spy, Invincible Lee Pyung-gang (also called Taming of the Heir), and Goddess of Marriage.
2. Speaking of Lee Seung-gi's music videos. The music video for his "noona anthem" debut song "Because You're My Girl," starred the lovely Kim Sarang as the said noona. Aside from being actresses, and yunno, women, and all the obvious stuff, what does Sarang have in common with Kim Sung-ryung, better known as Jang Geun-seuk's self-centered mom in You're Beautiful and Lee Min-ho's ditzy mom in Heirs? (1 pt) -Kim Sarang and Kim Sung-ryung were both crowned Miss Korea, Sung-ryung in 1989 and Sarang in 2001.
3. Still speaking of Lee Seung-gi: He starred in two dramas about gumihos-- My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and Gu Family Book. In the first drama, he is, of course, the gumiho's boyfriend in a tale that turned the gumiho legend, so to speak, on its end. But Gu Family Book went one better... so what was so unusual about Seung-gi's role in that drama? (Bonus point if you tell me what a gumiho is.)(2 pts.) - First of all, a gumiho, in Korean legend, is a nine-tailed fox demon who eats human livers. Specifically, she marries men in order to eat their livers (or hearts, depending on the version). So a gumiho is always portrayed as female, like Shin Mina's character in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. Only, in that drama, the gumiho was not evil-- she wanted to be human and be loved. Gu Family Book went one further in remaking the gumiho legend in that Kangchi, the role that Seung-gi plays, is a male gumiho.
Bonus question: Speaking of gumiho. What Pokemon is based on the gumiho's Japanese cousin? :D (1 pt.) -If you answered Zorua, Zoroark, Vulpix or Ninetales, you're correct. All of them are based on the kitsune, which is the Japanese counterpart of the gumiho. The Ninetales, however, is the Pokemon whose appearance is closest to the kitsune and the gumiho. It is used: (a) to address older brothers and cousins, (b) to address older male friends and basically older males who are like older brothers, (c) to address boyfriends, and (d) by fans to address their idol singers, and in some cases, actors.
2. Manga and anime time! Since the Lunar New Year has just been celebrated and all... what manga (which was also made into an anime... which I am not happy about) featured characters that represented the animals from the Chinese Zodiac? Bonus point if you tell me how the ti
tle of the manga relates to the story. (2 pts) - The manga is called Fruits Basket (and yes I am not happy that the anime wasn't good, and that it will never be continued, because I love this manga so darned much). The ti
tle seems to be so unrelated to the story, but it somehow is. It's the name of a children's game, used as a metaphor for the way the main character felt left out of everything, because when other kids played the game when she was little, they used to exclude her.
Bonus question: Since it's Valentine's Day this week and all... what's the "crazy little thing" mentioned in the Thai "sleeper hit" movie starring Mario Maurer and Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul? (1 pt) -Love, of course. The movie is called First Love on Wikipedia, but the Thai ti
tle translates to "A Little Thing Called... Love", and elsewhere on the internet it can be found as A Crazy Little Thing Called Love. 1. My 'bino zennie is named AnShoji. The anime that his name is taken from also has the characters Tsukasa, Bear, Mimiru, Subaru, Sora and BT. What's the name of the anime? (Bonus point to anyone who can tell me the origin of BT's name.)(2 pts) - -Of course, it's .hack//SIGN, also known as "dot hack." BT took her name from a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich (BLT) without the lettuce. (Online sources say it's because she doesn't like the lettuce and so she keeps taking it out of the sandwich, but I seem to remember watching a scene where she tells Bear that every time she ordered a BLT, the restaurant kept forgetting to put in the lettuce and that's why she used the name. But it was so long ago I might have misremembered or misunderstood.)
2. I also have four ginger zennies named GenjyoSanzo, ChuHakkai, ShaGojo, and SonGokku. These are the names of characters from which anime and manga? (Bonus point to anyone who can tell me what work the anime was originally based on, and I don't mean the manga.)(2 pts) -Of course it's Gensomaden Saiyuki (also called just Saiyuki) and its sequels. (And it's probably my most favorite anime ever.) And despite the badass tone of the anime, it actually has very classical origins... I mean, the 16th century Chinese classic novel Journey to the West is just about as classical as you can get, right?
3. What's the relationship between Ranma and Ranko Saotome? :P (Bonus point for telling me how this came about.) (2 pts) -They're the same person. The boy Ranma fell into a cursed spring and was cursed to turn into a girl, Ranko, everytime cold water touched him (hot water changes him back, of course).
4. Name the manga and anime character who can command the eight Flame Dragons (Karyuu). (1 pt) -Recca Hanabishi, from Flame of Recca.
Bonus question: This old manga and anime series featured a trio of sisters who lead a double life as art thieves. What is its name? (And bonus points to anyone who can tell me how the name is related to the story.)(3 pts) -The drama is called Cat's Eye. The girls themselves are referred to as Cat's Eye when they do the robberies, mainly because of the calling cards they leave behind, as sharp as shuriken and with the emblem of a red cat on them. It's a wonder that no one ever tumbled to connecting this to their real identities, since the girls also own and run a cafe named Cat's Eye.

Eighth Wave - CLOSED (10 pts)
1. Let's start off with the easy question: Which K-drama character led a double life during the Japanese Occupation of Korea as a Korean member of the Japanese police and a masked vigilante? (Bonus point if you give his name as the vigilante, which is also the ti
tle of the drama.)(2 pts.) -Lee Kang-to, played by Joo Won, was not only a Korean member of the Japanese police (and therefore regarded as a traitor by his countrymen) but he was also the masked vigilante Gaksital, symbol of his people's struggle to regain their independence. The drama is named after him: Gaksital, or Bridal Mask.

This Japanese TV series featured this set of detective wannabe characters: a bumbling guy who always wears flowered shirts, a young computer prodigy, a cosplaying girl with a photographic memory, a brooding, mysterious, but brilliant boy, and last but not the least, a bubbly, optimistic boy whose trademark quotes are "Oh! tle of the manga and anime)? (Bonus points to whoever gives the characters' names as well!)(6 pts.) -The TV series (and anime and manga) is Tantei Gakuen Q (Detective School Q). It features a group of young people who are in the same class at a detective school-- at first they regard each other as competition, but gradually learn to become friends. They are: - -martial arts expert Toyama Kintaro (played by Kaname Jun), the young man in the trademark flowered shirts;
- -Narusawa Kazuma (played by Wakaba Katsumi), the teen computer prodigy who earns millions by creating computer games;
- -Minami Megumi (played by Shida Mirai), the young girl with the photographic memory, who often shows up in a cosplay outfit;
- -Amakusa Ryu (played by Hey!Say! JUMP's Yamada Ryosuke), the brilliant but cold and mysterious boy;
- -The heart of the group, optimistic and bubbly Renjo Kyu (played by Kamiki Ryunosuke).
(This is one of my favorite series to rewatch, if only for the growing friendship between the characters, especially Ryu and Kyu.)
3. K-pop nostalgia time: What girl group had Yoon Eun-hye (Goong/Princess Hours, Coffee Prince, Lie To Me, Marry Me If You Dare) as one of its members?(1 pt) --Yoon Eun-hye was a member of Baby V.O.X.
Bonus question: In the J-drama (and anime and manga of the same name) Ouran High School Host Club, what does Tamaki grow in the closet? (1 pt.) --Whenever Tamaki gets depressed, he huddles in a corner or inside a closet, and grows mushrooms. Exotic ones, at that.

1. Which member of which K-pop girl group started out as a celebrity in the Philippines due to being in a reality-based talent competition, before being scouted to become an idol? (2 pts) -Sandara Park, better known as 2NE1's Dara, was the runner-up in Philippine network ABS-CBN's first Star Circle Quest, and went on to appear in several movies and drama series alongside SCQ's winner Hero Angeles. Afterwards, she was scouted for 2NE1 and returned to Korea. Although it doesn't seem like her name is Korean, "Sandara" is actually a "pure Korean" name that means "grow up brightly and healthily.” "Pure Korean" in this case means that it was taken from the Korean language and doesn't have a counterpart in Hanja, or Chinese characters.

Slam Dunk, the anime based on the manga of the same name, was very popular in the 1990s and is credited with helping to popularize basketball in Japan. Of course all the usual shenanigans occur, from road accidents to corporate takeovers, to amnesia and personality changes, to broken engagements and almost-marriages. Oh, and the female lead character played by Joe Chen has a bedroom whose decor references the fairy-tale which is also referenced by the ti

I could fill an entire folder with wallpaper just from the screencaps. Also, the lead girl Tian-yu's Frog Prince inspired bedroom is cute!)

1. All three were individual songs sung by members of CNBLUE (ie. Yonghwa Minhyuk Jongyun respectively)
2. Both sung by Kim Jaejoong and both have the same phrase that indicates "in my arms" and both songs are about the girl liking/leaving for another guy?? xDD

1. Aside from being K-pop love songs, what do these songs have in common: "Song for a Fool", "Star", and "My Love". -All three songs were sung by members of CNBlue in their dramas. They got their wish when Heartstrings aired-- Yong-hwa and Shin-hye played Shin and Kyu-won, the lead characters.
