The movie is actually pretty close to the book- only a few details are changed. Collins (who wrote the Hunger Games) also collaborated on the sc
ript. =3 She DID start out as a play writer.

Also can we please not do the "Team Gale/Peeta" stuff? D= A series as badly written as Twilight shouldn't be crossed with a good series like the Hunger Games. That's just insulting to the trilogy.

*Spoiler Alert*
I agree BowEcho.
I saw the movie today and literally cried my eyes out while Rue was dying. I honestly think that the movie wasn't and will never be as good as the book. but that's my opinion.
But, I'm not sure if people had something to fo today, but I went with my friend, and we got there about half an hour early, and there was hardly anybody there. The front part of the seating was empty, and it stayed empty.
We had nobody even near us. Which was nice, but I'm shocked the theatre wasn't packed.

Wow, really? Both times I went it was hard to find a seat. xD Maybe everyone saw it Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Also, Clouding, you should warn people of the spoiler in your post. Some here haven't seen the movie nor read the books yet.

I saw the movie, and was a bit dissapointed with the lack of bloodshed, and the fact that the deceaced tribute mutants didn't resemble those in the book. they were supposed to be more... kick-ass. They just seemed like literal mutts. (in the dog sense)

Although, all in all, it was a great movie. The acting was pretty good, and the computer-animated effects were pretty astonishing. The details were thought-over, and I have to say, Haymitch was his funny usual self from the book. I'm just always the type of person that likes the books more than the movies. xD

They had to cut out a lot in the movie to get the PG13 rating. I haven't actually seen it, and I'm not sure if I'll get to anytime soon. I want to though :3

I'm not trying to bring the teams thing back up, I'm not on anybody's "side," this isn't Twilight, but I will admit I never finished Mockingjay. I really didn't like Peeta, he seemed to lack a lot of character and depth. My mother thought the same thing. I have a rough idea of a lot of what happened, but I don't know the details.

They are beautifully written books though <3

I agree on the 'lack of character' thing on peeta. V

I think Peeta had good character, but in a setting with a lot of fighting and bloodshed and rebellion, his personality is the type to get easily overshadowed. xP

oooooooo: My friends and I thought the exact same thing.
Probably because the rating was PG, and if they made the rating PG-13,
they would have probably added more gore and blood.

I personally thought Peeta wasn't a very great actor in this movie.
I know some people who see this are going to blow up at me, but I honestly think he could have done a better job.
The movie also left out the Avox(es), who Madge gave Katniss the pin, not the old lady...
I could go on for a couple more reasons, but I forget them...o_o

Did you guys know that in real life, the actor for peeta is like, mad short? there's nothing wrong with that, of course, but, just thought I'd share. LOL.

Yes, but you have to remember that there are some things that a movie audience will get bored with. Knowing who gave Katniss the pin, for example, isn't important to the plot of the book and would therefore be a useless character introduction (and take up time) in the movie. Adding the Avoxes, at least in the first movie, is also a useless character introduction, but they may decide to introduce them for the second movie.

The pin itself was also wrong; the original pin does not have a mockingjay holding an arrow, but just a mockingjay in a gold circle. The pin in the movie is referencing the cover of the book, and the arrow is supposed to symbolize Katniss' skill with a longbow. The pin doesn't actually look like that.

But overall the movie was pretty darn close to the book events and, I think, still did it justice. ^^

Wow, I really want to see the movie now. I dunno, but it sort of bothers me that a lot of people are watching the movie without reading the books, and from what I've heard, they don't seem to really understand the point of the Hunger Games and why the tributes try so hard to win I had to explain to them because it was that the districts were so poor, and winning meant food, and the closest thing to freedom they could get, which I've also heard isn't as hard to tell in the movie, or at least the mood isn't as... dark? I guess, as in the books.

I just thought Peeta relied too much on others, and based a lot of his actions on what Katniss did, or thought, and that made him seem sort of weak, and lacking his own personality in some ways. But everyone has their own opinion, and I'm going to respect that. I know I don't like him that well, but I know a lot of others do :)

I like Peeta if only because he seems to understand Katniss in a more intimate way than Gale. When push comes to shove later on, Gale is more about doing what he wants to do and trying to convince Katniss to follow his way of thinking- Peeta understands Katniss' point and doesn't try to force her hand about it.

And yeah, I agree, Guiven. I mean the movie is pretty close to the book, but there are definitely some details and depth that get lost if you haven't at least read the first novel beforehand.

I think it is kind of hard to tell in the movie. I mean it's from the POV of Katniss, pretty much, in movie form, and she knows why the tributes fight to win. It wouldn't make sense if someone had to explain it to her, or to Peeta, or to anyone else- they already know. In the books you can get into her head and it's therefore easier to explain.
