Welcome to the second plane - a world where all humans are animals, but only the worst become beasts.

All of us began as humans - each and every one, no exceptions. Trust me, I know from experience. Who am I? My name is... Well, that's classified. I'm known as Crown. I am the headmaster of the Sakkaku Society - whether you become affiliated with me or not is completely of your own, personal, individual choice. I am simply here to explain your situation to you. You see, just four hours ago, right after the clock stuck fourteen, you died. It doesn't matter how - no one cares when it's over. The simple fact is... You are dead. Dead as a doornail, dead, dead, dead. Your death, stay with me, was simply the beginning of your life - and being poetic was most certainly not my intention. You see, child, we live in a world that resides on an entirely different plane of existence than that on which you previously dwelled. Contrary to common fairytales and theories, we live and walk among humans as one of their own, but our true 'existence' is to be kept confidential - humans are to stay naïve. Why, you ask? Well, that's easy. When a human sees one of us, well, it becomes easier to corrupt them. Corruption, in the simplest sense of the word, is a very dangerous thing - it draws unwanted attention.

Blood tastes best when boiled. Don't deny it, you know it's true. I am the one called Miasma, and I am the orchestrator of Kaosu. I shouldn't need to explain myself - that's the database's job.

What Crown has said is true - you most certainly are dead, and a strange mark has now been placed on your forearm. Now, calm yourself, all will be explained.

Welcome to the database, your current, ever-changing source of information. You may refer back to here at any time.

AFFILIATIONS -
Sakkaku Society - An association of former humans organized to protect the living and pure spirits from Kaosu.
Kaosu - An association of former humans organized to wreak havoc on the first plane of existence, consisting of demons and other creatures of the like.

SAKKAKU SOCIETY BEINGS (by rank, highest to lowest)-
Shinigami - Also known as the reapers, Shinigami serve as beacons of hope and trust - even though they are often uptight and sour. The average Shinigami has dark violet hair and pale skin, bearing the surname, "Inoue" due to their common ancestors, the founders of the Sakkaku Society. The powers of the Shinigami are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Short-range teleportation, molding (replacing their body with material elements such as mud, stone, water, or precious metals while retaining their appearance - a useful defense mechanism and/or armor), mastery of all ranged weapons.

Kanshu - The keepers of the Sakkaku Society. They act as caretakers, sentries, defenders, and... Well, babysitters. Their every breath is dedicated to the protection of the Society and the lives of the Yocho. Kanshu, besides the Shinigami, are by far some of the rarest beings found on the second plane. Their duty is to raise the newly discovered Yocho assigned to them from "birth"(death) and teach them how to promote themselves through the ranks - AKA schooling. The powers of the Kanshu are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Flight, breathing underwater, witchcraft (hexing, cursing, etc).

Hagukuma Tamashi - Often shortened to Tamashi, these beings are the "nurtured souls". They are formed of Yocho who were among the purest of human souls, born with the most exceptional eyesight, and with the most agile and able bodies. They are most often assigned work as spies, infiltrators, and escorts. The powers of the Hagukuma Tamashi are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Bodily extension, telepathy, and multi-plane sight (able to see through walls, etc).

Yohei - Similar to mercenaries, or simply fighters. They are often difficult to work with, acting brash, rude, and egotistical. They are the warriors of the Sakkaku Society, quite nearly the opposite or balancing factor of the Tamashi. Yohei pride themselves on their strength, speed, acute hearing, and quick reflexes. The powers of the Yohei are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Superhuman strength, telepathy, and mastery of all close-range weapons.

Natural Yocho - These are Yocho who have recently died and are new to the second plane. They are cared for and trained by the Kanshu to become Hagukuma Tamashi, Yohei, Kanshu as well, or even Shinigami if they're proven to be an Inoue. Natural Yocho do not gain powers until assigned to a rank.

Uragirimono Yocho - These are Yocho who have escaped from Kaosu and fled to Sakkaku Society, and are seen as a lower level than natural Yocho due to having previously been corrupted. Like natural Yocho, they do not gain powers until assigned to a rank.

KAOSU BEINGS (by rank, highest to lowest)-
Okora Ryoshin - Meaning "angered conscience", Okora Ryoshin are the Kaosu parallel to the Shinigami (though they are not the founders of Kaosu - that is reserved specifically for Miasma, whose rank is undisclosed). They are found to be mentally unstable on varying levels, going from disturbed to purely insane. They are by far the strongest of all beings (except their equals, the Shinigami). The powers of the Okora Ryoshin are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Empathy, bloodlust (a sudden burst of strength, speed, and power usable at any time during two-hour intervals), and short-range teleportation.

Konketsu-ji - The "mutts". They are treated like military dogs, used like hive minds. They do, however, exercise very strong will when given the chance and can become extremely dangerous. Like Kanshu, they are the guides and teachers of Uragirimono and Yocho. The powers of the Okora Ryoshin are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Flight, breathing underwater, witchcraft (hexing, cursing, etc).

Maboroshi - Maboroshi are the most abundant of all ranks, surpassing even the entire multitude of Yocho. They act as a combination of Hagukuma Tamashi and Yohei when gathered, though whether a Maboroshi is created with the traits of Hagukuma Tamashi or Yohei is completely random instead of by choice. The powers of the Maboroshi are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Bodily extension, telepathy, multi-plane sight, superhuman strength, and mastery of all weapons.

Uragirimono - Most of the "traitors" are created at birth (death), though some are converted and corrupted from members of the Sakkaku Society, hence the name. They are born from the most notorious murderers, cult leaders or members, and mental hospital patients (you'd be surprised how many of these are politicians). The powers of the Uragirimono are limited but not necessarily restricted to: Telekinesis, far-range teleportation, and superhuman speed.

THE RULES
1. All players must be literate. (Your best grammar is greatly encouraged)
2. No godmodding, bunnying, Mary-Sues, Gary-Stus, or other terrifying, unlawful acts.
3. Please ask if you want the plot of the rp to go in a certain direction, control a Shinigami or Okora Ryoshin, engage in fighting activities, etc.
4. Always use parentheses, brackets, front- or back-slashes for OOC, and no fighting or arguing within the OOC.
5. If you have any questions or concerns, refer to me specifically.
6. Keep the genders and affiliations balanced. If genders are unbalanced, a 2-1 in the male-female ratio is preferred, because at least it's realistic.
7. If you read all the rules, please type the word 'scythe' somewhere in your bio.

THE PLOT
Sakkaku Society and Kaosu are in a state of disarray. Recently, an outbreak of a deadly disease known as Strabovirus has spread among both associations. Strabovirus causes a victim to lose control of their limbs as they slowly turn black, and as the virus spreads to their vital organs and brain, they lose complete control of their bodies, mind, and conscience, becoming slaves of an unknown, reclusive power nicknamed "Rigor Mortis". Your job, no matter what rank you are, where you came from, or your association, you must work together with both Sakkaku Society and Kaosu to annihilate this army and stop Rigor Mortis before the entire second plane is destroyed and the human world becomes the playground of death.

You bear the Mark of Abaddon. Your immunity to Strabovirus makes you nearly unstoppable in the face of this new threat.

Protect us.

Affiliation : Kaosu

Rank : Okora Ryoshin

Name : Mikhail "Smiles" Hesser

Date of death : 11/20/06

Age at death : 23

Gender : Male

Orientation : Pansexual

Personality
: Characteristically unstable; he is sadistic and maybe even quite brutish, though charismatic and cheerful. He is a rather highly developed intellectual, though it cannot be seen at first glance due to his childish and naïve behavior.

Appearance : Mikhail is rather tall - at about 5'11", he towers over half of his task force. His skin is pale - nearly abnormally so. His face is thin and long with a pronounced jawline, but not abnormally so. Mikhail's eyes are a dark, pure violet with black scleras, and his hair is shaggy, a pale silver reaching just past his chin while covering his forehead and ears. He is made of a lanky build, though looks are deceiving - he is muscular and lithe. Mikhail loves modern fashion and wears a lavender tank and black pants with multiple cargo-style pockets and a shashka at his side, as well as combat boots and a black leather jacket adorned with studs on the shoulders.

History : Mikhail was born out of wedlock in the Novosibirsk oblast of the Soviet Union (the specific town remains unknown)and was orphaned almost immediately by his mother, a convicted criminal who abandoned him beneath a dumpster when he was a year and a half old. He was soon found by a woman named Vanya Krupin. She later brought him to a nearby orphanage, where he stayed until he was adopted by a German family, the Hesser family, six years later. He became the third of the seven original Okora Ryoshin who had become corrupted by Miasma in the year of 2001 at the age of eleven. He committed various minor crimes, thirteen murders, and three robberies by the time he turned twenty-two, at which point he'd been convicted to the Bethel Institution before he'd even finished his third year in prison. Only six months later, he died of suffocation in his padded cell.

Crush/Interest : None thus far.

Other : The third and only surviving member of the seven original Okora Ryoshin corrupted by Miasma.

Name : Mei Inoue

Date of death : 7/11/1567

Age at death : 21

Orientation : Straight

Personality
: Mei prefers not to speak with her underlings, and is thus deemed as 'rude' and 'uptight', which causes her to become rude and uptight. She has a certain fondness for humans and Yocho, and does everything in her power to protect them - this often lands her in trouble, which she denies, though soon shames her within.

Appearance : Mei is short for her age, standing at 4'10, and although she may call it muscle, her body is nearing the point of 'chubby'. Her face is heart-shaped with olive skin and her almond eyes are a deep, dark blue. Her hair is similar to the color of a raven feather (or oil on black pavement, whatever you see as iridescent) and reaches her lower back with blunt, straight bangs, characteristic of the Inoue family. She wears a white sundress and beige walking brogues, always accompanied with a bronze timepiece on a fob chain that hangs around her neck like a necklace.

Affiliation : Sakkaku Society -scythe-
Rank : Hagukuma Tamashi
Name : Yuu Sakamoto
Date of death : April 27th, 1873
Age at death : 30
Gender : Female
Orientation : Straight
Personality : Business-like and opinionated, Yuu likes order and strategy, and is often in her element at the drawing board. She rarely says anything unless she has prepared what she will be saying beforehand. This kind of thinking often leads to her downfall, however, as she will completely crumble when a plan goes wrong or something is changed.
Because of her habit of retaining a very business-like demeanor, Yuu doesn't have many friends, her calculating mind also leading to this problem. She believes social interaction is too complex for her to understand, and thus resists many offered hands of friendship.
Despite these flaws, Yuu is very strong-willed and will, if pressed, do anything to protect her workmates. She can also be quite bossy, but not in an overwhelming way. She likes things to be done on time, and absolutely loathes any kind of slacking off.
Appearance : Japanese in origin, Yuu is small in bust and hips, her body type is reminiscent of a short, thin stick. Standing at 5'3 (and a half, as she stubbornly points out), she is short, but but with perfect posture to add as much height as possible. A shock of wavy dark brown hair sits atop her head in a bun, held together by traditional hair sticks, with the texture and appearance of an old woman's hair. When unraveled, which is an extremely rare occurrence, it rests at her mid-back. Her eyes are dark, almost black, sharp and angled as much  as her personality.
For the longest time Yuu continued to wear the style of dress as was popular in her time, modest dresses with large bustles, but found they were difficult to wear in her line of new work, and began developing a fondness for the 'women's power suit' style of sharp collared jackets and black work pants. The only thing remaining from her formal style, or really the only thing flashy about her, is her tear-drop earrings of diamond, pearl, and sapphire. She is often seen carrying a clipboard, on which she writes extensive notes, usually analysis of the people or events around her.
History : Yuu was born into a wealthy family that was one of the leading silk producers in Japan. She lived a sheltered life for the most part, being taught at home by her mother. On her 20th she inherited the company, and it grew tenfold of what it was. She donated much of what the company earned to the poor and widows, believing it would help to make her country strong. When her mother died, soon after Yuu's 28th birthday, Yuu sold the company and donated their large home to an orphanage society. She herself moved to a small cottage far from town. While she liked to help people, she didn't feel she understood them, as isolated as her childhood had been. She drowned at the age of 30, falling into a lake and being unable to pull herself out for the weight of her clothes.
Crush/Interest : None at this point.

Affiliation : Kaosu
Rank : Uragirimono
Name : Jack Carpenter
Date of death : January 1st, 2003
Age at death : 27
Gender : Male
Orientation : Bisexual
Personality : Charming and friendly, Jack is a firecracker of a person, making jokes and using his powers as often as possible. He tries to befriend everyone he meets, which is difficult when most of your companions are harsh killers. Jack is very compulsive, which often leads him into trouble, as he'll take what isn't his, hear what he shouldn't, and touch what's out of bounds. This leads people to dislike his untrustworthy nature.
Jack is adept at reading people, but often ignores what he reads and tries to pop their personal bubble.
Jack's friendly attitude with his comrades is not exactly reciprocated with his enemies. He kills as he pleases, often ignoring orders on the battlefield, when his lust for blood and chaos overrules common thought. Often after a large killing he isn't quite himself, acting twitchy and dazed. He talks only to himself, and giggles every so often. This behavior often fades within two hours or less.
He also loves tacos and giraffes. Any chance he gets to stop at a zoo, he takes.
Appearance : Lanky and constantly grinning, Jack is quite attractive, with a boyish, youthful face and expressive eyes, which are green. He stands at a slightly above average height, though he walks with a slouch most of the time. Shaggy, sandy blonde hair sits atop his head, often falling into his eyes, giving him a golden-retriever type look. Occasionally he wears it in a short ponytail. He wears round, half-rim glasses that are mostly for show. He often wears collared shirts in various colours, his favourite a mid-night blue one with a lighter breast pocket. Over top he wears a floor-length pin-stripe button-up coat, which he lovingly takes off to fight.
History : Jack had a standard childhood, living in a middle-class family of three siblings in the United States. He wasn't a very behaved child, skipping school and shoplifting actively by the age of 8. He was never quite caught because of his cleverness and adept lying skills. These kinds of petty crimes continued until high school, when he started developing a 'taste' for children. This trend continued through his college years, where he studied to become a teacher. At the age of 23, he got his first job as an elementary school teacher. There were no suspicions until a girl in class went missing. Jack was taken in for questioning, and after seeing  he couldn't lie his way out, he killed himself at the age of 27.
The girl has yet to be found.
Crush/Interest : None at this point.

"Oi, Smiles, there's been a little... Development." The thin man glanced wearily up from his place in the office. "Yeah? What is it, Abernathy?" His voice was low and his accent thick, though still carried the grinning attitude of his own alias. A manila folder slid across his desk with the word CLASSIFIED stamped on the front. Smiles glanced up with a raised brow of silver, his smirk widening as he spoke, "Oh my, a folder... How delightful. Do you know how much work I have already?" Narrow, demonic eyes flicked toward the Maboroshi who stood before him. "A-Aye, it's just... It's real bad, sir... Real bad."
The air grew thick in the large, dark office. The white and blue styling of the place didn't seem to provide much compensation, either. The Maboroshi, Abernathy, stood twiddling his thumbs while Smiles flitted through the folder, and flinched when he finally broke the silence. "Notify all ranks and have someone tele the Sakkaku for me." He placed his hands in a steeple, elbows resting on the desk with a new, commanding tone. "S-Sakkaku? Are you absolutely sure?" The inferior man now wavered. "Did I stutter? Make sure they know it was Mikhail Hesser at the head of this operation. Ensure no one strays... Or would you like me to bring myself joy in the manner of a barbarian? Wrap my hands around your throat... Make you turn blue... Would you like me to do that? I don't think so."
Smiles was now alone in his office, though he soon stood to make his way out into the large, hellish half of the second plane known as Kaosu headquarters, where each and every rank of his association thrived, giving and taking orders from their one and only leader, Miasma. His hands pocketed, the tall man slowly paced outside of the grand hall of the Uragirimono division. What he wanted to do was sit back, kick his feet up, smoke, and forget about this new Strabovirus thing that was now threatening the entire structure of this world, but now he was stuck sucking his teeth outside the hall of traitors, having to order around the lowest rank of military dogs, most of which were bumbling fools. With a sigh, he raised a pale, jacketed arm in the air to gain the attention of the crowd. "Oei! Monos! Surround sound! I don't feel like losing my voice today, so shut your traps and listen up!" His voice carried as far as the space would allow, and he awaited the bumbling fools to obey his first command.

The highest Shinigami of Sakkaku Society stood with her fingertips lightly tapping the railing of her office balcony, which held her high above the Sakkaku Society headquarters. Behind her, a rough female voice carried through an amplifier on her desk. "...It threatens both of our associations. Miasma does not seem to know of this yet, though if they do, we have not been notified. We ask that you respond as quickly as possible and rally your people so we can find a solution. To our knowledge, thousands have already been lost to this epidemic, though there is no concrete proof of the cause of this. We do know that it's all due to someone called Rigor Mortis, though this was provided through an anonymous source."
The Shinigami scraped her nails against the balcony, her head falling forward beneath her dark curtain of hair. "We would be very grateful if you granted assistance. Kaosu telestation, over and out." The amp clicked off, causing the young woman to spin and briskly make her way to her door, where a Kanshu was already waiting. "An announcement, Mei?" The blue uniform of the inferior was a startling contrast to the pure white of the headquarters. "Imadani... Wait a while. I'll be making my rounds first to make sure everyone's in their place and ready to start preparations for something like this. As an Inoue, I will take it upon myself to create a beacon of hope for the Kaosu... A recourse, understood? Now leave, I've had too much of you for now." Her voice trailed off as she squared her shoulders, coldly sweeping past the lower-ranked man with her head held high, as was her habit.
Stepping out of the elevator, the Madame Inoue began her hourly sweep of the headquarters, paying hawk-like attention to every detail she could see, and this time she wasn't just looking for maintenance or disturbances. Now she was looking for signs of the new Strabovirus.

7:26. A previous theory was debated upon this matter, but as an Inoue her words word seve- The scratching of pen against paper was halted, replaced by the merry cuckoo-ing of an ornate clock that hung on the wall of a small but well-lit office space. The abrupt noise startled the sole occupant of the room, a small woman who was bent over an antique oak writing desk. Her hair was wrapped in a loose bun that wobbled with each pen stroke.  She appeared to be an old woman, but upon closer inspection it was easy to tell she was young, with her round, youthful face and pensive eyes. She was still, her pen still poised at the paper. The sudden noise of the clock had startled her, piercing the heavy silence that hung about the room. Her heightened senses as a Hagukuma Tamashi caused her to react in such a manner, her abilities allowing her to use her senses to their full capabilities. She could smell the faint trace of licorice in the room, feel every ridge in the paper before her. She could watch as a spider crawled its way up the bookshelf behind her, heading to the spider web in the corner of the office. Spiders are such delicate creatures, Yuu had mused when she had first stumbled upon the spider web. Surely it would be unkind to destroy its home and extinguish the spider's life for the sole reason that the creature didn't appeal to her. So it stayed, almost like a pet.
As the clock faded into silence, its job of pronouncing the rounded hour complete, the alarm Yuu Sakamoto had felt dissipated, causing her to go back to her task. Through her pen Yuu rewrote some of the oldest records from the Sakkaku Society library, chronicling the important events of many years past. For most people the task would seem grueling or tedious, but she thrived on this kind of work. She hadn't been asked to do this, but while perusing the library she found that some records were in a deplorable state. She had decided to take matters into her own hands. These records deserved to be preserved, kept neatly by a fine, hand-written . The English characters came as easily to her as the native Japanese she had learned as a girl. In fact, most of the Japanese she knew was gone, swept away from her mind by disuse and time.
Some of the events she copied on to fresh paper Yuu remembered, from the past sixty years years on. The rest were jumbled, vague memories that couldn't be deciphered without a physical link. Her pen stopped once more. one hundred and forty one years, she thought idly, since I've been dead. Funny how the moment can still be so clear. Cold water pierced her lungs, setting them on fire with unbearable pain. She twisted in agony in an attempt to reach the surface, but the weight of her heavy dress dragged her down, down to her death.... she blinked, shaking the image away. Now I am here, and this is my task.
A flurry of movement came from the halls, the light streaming under her door pierced by shadows of hurried feet. Yuu's head snapped up as she gritted her teeth at the interruption. She gazed at the heavy wooden door before focusing her eyes through them, using her abilities as a Tamashi. People rushed by with worried looks on their faces, glancing at passer-bys with weakly hidden fear. She watched as an important figure crossed the hall. Mei Inoue. The only person Yuu had ever had a full conversation with. It was on pure business matters, which was what made Yuu feel safe in social situations. She stood up, opening the office door and falling neatly behind Mei. "Inoue," she called politely, following the esteemed Shinigami, "pardon me for intruding upon your thoughts, but what is the meaning of the sudden spiek in activity?" Yuu could have asked a friend, but then, she didn't have any. So, she went to a superior, her face earnest as she awaited her answer.

(Jack's introduction to come soon, I'm quite busy at the moment and only got the time to finish one piece.)

(I'm going to post for Mei, just to keep the rp circulating and all that. I'll write for Mikhail as well when Jack's introduction is up.)

Mei's attention flicked almost immediately to the woman behind her. "Ms. Sakamoto, yes, I apologize for this... Bustle. As of now, there has been a development reported by Kaosu. It seems a new... Disease, one may call it, has spread across the second plane and presumably has spread within Miasma and Mr. Hesser's reach, though I was not graced with such information... As expected." She expelled a breath of hot air, a sour taste growing in her mouth from the entire situation. Mei very much disliked the prospect of having to assist Kaosu with anything, let alone something so dire, though the looming threat had left her no choice. "I don't assume you and the other Tamashi will be affected, though if that is the case, we are in a very unsettling position. I hope none of this frightens you - it shouldn't, considering someone of your position will not be needed if this can be dealt with quickly. Unfortunately... That does not seem to be the case."
The Shinigami shook her head, adjusting her fountain of hair in what some might say was a rather self-conscious fashion. The ordeal had disoriented her, having been so sudden and urgent, her experience in this position of power being so young and new compared to Crown and her Inoue ancestors. She felt the least bit prepared to face the Strabovirus head-on without the guidance she had long wished for. However, now was not a time for her thoughts to bicker among themselves - for now, she needed to face the matter at hand, which was to provide insight for Yuu Sakamoto. "I trust you, Ms. Sakamoto, though there are many details concerning this disease that I may not be permitted to tell you... Details such as the origin and purpose."
It was true that she trusted the woman, more than many of the Tamashi and those above or below. Unfortunately, what she feared was having to give up the knowledge that the origin and purpose were still unknown and she relied completely on Kaosu to relay that information to her. She despised such a situation - it made her clench her jaw and respond to any other approaching underlings with a certain curtness that marked her discomfort.
