Rosa:

The time seemed to tick by slowly as she made her way to the tower. However, when she did happen to get there, there would not be anyone waiting for her. It was still somewhat early compared to the agreed time. I suppose you were going to have to wait.

"Only if you are willing to pay for the horse if it gets damaged by a monster," The lady said with one raised eyebrow. "We normally only do renting if the person has enough money to guarantee a replacement if damaged." She shook her head quickly before motioning to town. "It's probably a thirty minute walk down to the exit but afterward, it should be fairly close through the gates. My advice though is find someone to go with you. There has been a murloc near that area for some time stopping my workers from getting to the fruit themselves."

Cain
--- Overcast Skies ---

From the rumors he had heard, this sword was one of three that dropped even close to the town of beginnings. It was more advanced than any of the newbie weapons, admittedly, but that didn't mean he was completely used to wielding it yet. No beginner here would be used to wielding a sword that was as big if not bigger than their arm. It was just a matter of getting used to it. Maybe he would go back to that place he had gotten this sword and see if the chest had respawned. Three options could come out of it, according to the blacksmith Cain had gotten to appraise it. Who knows, maybe something else would pop up. Course, he kind of liked this sword. Other than maybe showing someone else where it was or getting it to trade/sell, there wasn't much point in wasting his time going back. Except for maybe the monsters. The monsters were decent ish that direction.

The countdown clock began to chime down to 0 slowly and Cain slowed his breathing. Maybe it was odd that his heart beat faster at the prospect of fighting, maybe not... but he seemed to be enjoying the act more and more.

Four
Three
Two
One

His hand moved quickly up to his hood, pulling it away with a snap. Gray eyes found the girls own dark blue, almost violet colored ones.

Zero.

His hands gripped tighter on the sword and his feet pushed him to the right, cape coming out to his left in a swoosh as it blew out by the air. The way he moved was fast considering he was lugging around such a sword. His eyes never left the girl, however, even as he moved out and to her right, looking to not hit her but to use the momentum of the blade that was in front of him to knock her off her feet. The sharp part of if was turned down and the flat edge was what was coming to attempt to knock her feet out from under her.

Calm it what you might... but he almost preferred to end the duel with her surrender rather than her hit points getting to zero. It would be a good lesson really. Knowing when to say your beaten and retreat... Cain couldn't help but realize that that was going to be a key factor in this world. Knowing when you've lost and saying as much, taking into account that you can't just die a valiant death and respawn anymore. It's like risking your life in the real world. If going farther into the crossfire might mean you can gain something... but it might mean your life, would you have done it then? No. He wasn't going stay alive by being stupid. Neither would anyone else. So yes, he far preferred her surrender than her defeat. But... when thinking about it, wouldn't you?

[[It's up to you whether you want to rp this out or do a system check on it. When it's with monsters, it's always a system but you vs me, I don't mind leaving the system out.]]

Lol nope.

Vynessa's eyes finally met his as Cain's hoods flew from his face revealing grey orbs fixated on her. She was right in thinking his level would give him the advantage. His initial movement zig-zagged left then right. The first thing she analyzes leaning into her right foot was his blade facing the wrong way and being carried low to the grown. Sure, it was a heavy blade (or at least it looked it) but this seemed intentional.

As Cain neared her shins She quickly shifted and kicked her weight backwards onto her left foot, following through by spinning clockwise and landing back on her right foot as to avoid falling flat on her face. Despite managing to avoid the facial ground collision, she was still knocked off balance due to the skidding caused by such a sudden energy transfer.

Leaning forward and facing the wrong way, Vyn tossed her crude blade from left hand to right hand then continued to spin clockwise and attempted to strike upwards, falling back onto her left foot once more and pivoting.

None of it looked very elegant. A 'spinning stumble' would be the most accurate deion. She needed to work on her form when utilizing a long blade. Chopping up straw was one thing. Having a guy you only just met run at you with a huge (majestic) sword was in a whole different ball park.

This
skill lets you more easily see the world around you for what it is. The
higher the skill level, the more likely it is for you to have quests be
identified for you on a map in your browser. Also, this is useful in
things such as chest finding, monster loot recovery, and tracking.

---------------------
Personality:
Cain is the kind of person who you are never quite sure about. There
might be the kind of chill on your neck whenever he is near even if he
is smiling at you in friendship. Why? Because despite everything, he
holds little attachment to anyone at all. He only truly cares if he
survives and if it means leaving others behind or fleeing a battle that
you are losing, he would do it. However, this does not make him a
monster. He can be a decent guy at times... it's just, at others, you
would not want to cross his path. He was born in a gray world, you might
say... and even his appearance takes on that personality. People used
to call him Gray simply because of his looks: light grey hair, dark grey
eyes, but not only that, but they could never tell if he was going to
be light or dark.

The ex
pression is that "It's a gray area" when
you couldn't quite be sure of what something is. Well, Cain was the
living embodiment of that gray area. Honestly, he was fine with that
too. He didn't care if others turned a scornful eye on him. Not because
he could ignore them... but because he straight down did not bother with
other people in general. They were just... there. Sometimes they were
useful to him and funny to be around, other times they held him back.
When they got to where they hindered him, he cut himself loose without
hesitation. There really hasn't been anyone who he would keep around
simply for the sure pleasure of their company.

History:
Find out by rping with him o3o It's a good history.

Shadly felt a bit nervous at the mention of a beast. She knew she couldn't take it down alone.
"Yeah, I'll just walk then, thank you. I will try my best." Shadly looked at the quest that had popped up in front of her, and with a feeling of dread she hit accept.
She sighed heavily and decided to head by foot towards the south.

Cain
--- Scattered Storms ---

He didn't expect her to simply be able to avoid the attack at her shins. No one he had dueled had been able to avoid a full out face plant before her. But of course, he had also picked her for the fact that she seemed decent on the dummies. He didn't want this to be easy for him either... but let's be frank, there were only a handful of level 2 players in the town of beginnings still. Not many had worked through the night to get that far. He needed to grow stronger too, you see. He wasn't just going to pick an easy kill and be done with it. He didn't plan to lose, mind you, but if he wanted to actually get any better, he would have to fight people other than those weaklings who were still trying to learn how to power up a sword attack.

It really wasn't that hard. Seriously.

The way she stumbled did seem like she was caught off balance but she recovered well, the sword charging and attempting to come at him with a spin. This was where he actually had to block, right? That was an option anyway. He could just step away from her... he was fast enough that he could probably avoid that blow if it continued towards him. There was a disadvantage there though... if he did do that, he would have to come in yet again to attack and the moving in and out of attack ranges was not something he was quite good in yet.

Apparently some people had a skill called Parry that even gave you a chance to counterattack immediately after blocking a blow. That wasn't his thing... Cain preferred to dodge attacks. Why even be near the attack when it came and risk something hitting you? It was common logic. However, just this one time, he would have to be a bit different.

His feet spread slightly from where he was and the sword hefted itself up within the span of time it took for the blonde chick's blade to get near him. The sound of metal clashing against metal was quickly becoming one of his new favorite noises and his eyes flashed slightly. If you were to look at them right at this moment, you would see the girl's blade stopped by the side of Cain's that he was holding up with one hand. His free hand was pressed against the flat edge of the sword for stability and making sure that the move didn't push through his defense. Admittedly, his defense wasn't his best skill... but it wasn't his worst either. He had more of it than she had attack anyway. That was good enough for now.

As soon as the block was effectively blocked, he moved again, dropping his stabilizing hand and shifting his feet again. The way it looked now, with her sword out and hanging there, it seemed almost easy to do what he did. His stance, left foot forward right foot back made it easy for him to move his right leg forward, using his now free hand to grab her arm that was holding the blade, holding her wrist carefully.

They were near chest to chest now, his free hand holding her blade hand and his sword out in his other. Still, despite that, he couldn't help but the small smile on his face. It had been a good attack she had given. If she could perfect that, well, he might one day even ask for lessons.

Rosa, noticing there was nobody there yet, decided to sit down on a small stone bench before the large figure of the clock tower. Checking the clock, she decided she would likely have to wait for a while before the man would show up. She took out the leftover supper from last night and began gnawing on it. She would have to eat sooner or later..

She sat watching the sun move across the pale sky; the time seemed to be going by rather slowly. Everything seemed fairly peaceful; though she wished she were more surrounded by nature rather than a city. Hopefully one of the future levels would have a nice forest area- maybe even with mountains.
Rosa looked at the clock. By now it was past 12; NPCs were usually on time, right? She glanced around, but there was no sign of the man. Something told her he wasn't coming.

Great- I wasted more than half of my gold for a no-show. I knew I should have trained instead...
Feeling angry and foolish, Rosa got up in a whirl and briskly walked out of the square. Feeling guilty for letting her anger overcome herself, she slowed her pace a bit.

I might as well make use of myself. I've wasted too much time already.
She headed towards the practice grounds, and up to the man watching everyone again.
"Hello- I am, uh.. ready to practice fighting now.. if that's okay." She avoided looking the man in the eye- still feeling guilty about abandoning her previous quest.
He looked fairly happy that she had come back- then swiped his hand and produced a quest.

Defeat 5 training dummies
Reward: 20xp

Rosa quickly accepted the prompt, then walked towards the dummies.
She noticed a couple of players going at it with each other; they looked strong. The boy seemed very-shall you say- dark. Someone she could be afraid of. Then again, Rosa was someone who got scared pretty easily.

She took out her sword and turned towards the dummies. This was nothing like in a game. To actually feel the cold sensation of metal against skin- it was sort of exhilarating. Her heart began to beat. She would have to learn how to do this eventually. Closing her eyes, she began to focus on the deadly steel weapon in her hands. She could- or at least thought she could- feel the sword pulsing with power; almost vibrating.
She opened her eyes, and flinched- the sword was glowing! She smiled. She could be truly free in this world, she felt. A power she could actually control.

Rosa dragged her eyes from the sword to the dummies; they seemed very insignificant after what she had just felt. She let out a small huff as she lightly ran towards them- then sliced at one. That was basically all she knew how to do so far, but she would learn. The dummy fell after a chain of hits, and she moved onto another. she did this for all five dummies. Out of breath after the last dummy disintegrated, Rosa bent over with her hands on her knees. She hadn't had quite a workout like this in... a long time.
Rosa slowly paced over to the NPC to announce her success. As she did, a screen popped up:
Congratulations, quest complete.
You have received 20 xp.
Great, first quest complete. Maybe she should do this one a few more times, as she could only benefit from it. Something suddenly caught her attention on the ground, and her eyes snapped to it. Unfortunately, it was only a bug. Her eyes jotted around a bit before she bit her lip.
After her pause she looked up, to see the two players dueling. Rosa was quite jealous of how well they seemed to move. Maybe they'd be able to teach her something.

Success! Contact. It may have been a strike to his defending blade, but she didn't make a fool of herself by randomly spinning with a sword. Her effort had paid off and it was something, with practice, she could hopefully use in future combat. That being said, what happened next wasn't in her initial plan. Then again, Vynessa never really ever had a plan and just rolled with it, the 'it' varying, solely dependent on the specific circumstances she found herself in.
The current impasse she faced was quite literally facing her opponent whilst he firmly grasped her right wrist. Getting caught so easily was never her intent, but her strike was along the lines of a 'spinning stumble', leaving herself subject to capture.

In the real world, getting caught was something she avoided at all cost. She was pretty good at it too. However, she had never been in the situation of spinning with a sword after avoiding a fall flat on one's face.

As the pair now stood parallel, at a convenient eye-to-eye level, Vynessa Pursed her lips and furrowed her brow. "You seem to have caught me red handed." She mused, now smirking herself as she noticed him smile for the first time. It may have been small, but on such a grey canvas, a little bit of warmth was hard to miss.

Cain
--- Overcast Skies ---
[[I typed up a whole reply and then the page frozen and deleted itself. ;-; It was twice this long but I hope this is still sort of okay I guess]]

Seconds began to tick buy as she stood there, meeting his gaze. It took a minute for her to speak and of course it would be something witty. She just seemed the type to say something witty in this situation. There were five types of people in this world. The kind who would give a sarcastic comment, the kind who would give a witty comment, the kind who would give no comment because it was to awkward, and the kind who would shoot daggers at you with their eyes and almost growl, and the person who just didn't care. She was option two, it seemed. Cain was the fifth option. Awkward situations didn't bother him... because they were only made awkward if you didn't care what the other person thought about you.

"Care to surrender? There's no shame in it." He said with a voice of acceptance. There was of course, no condensation in his voice. Cain didn't find anything wrong with admitting that you had lost. His sword shifted while he talked, however, that the tip that was previously pointed at the ground moved slowly up between them, the flat edge laying against his chest and the tip pointed up towards the sky and consequently, the underside of her chin.

"If it's any conselation, I would not have been able to recover quickly enough to be able to attack back like that. You have a good recovery rate." Cain didn't mind pointing out someones good points when they had them either. He was just capable of seeing their faults just as easily as their skills. Anyhow, there was a natural talent of a person to be able to watch an opponent and try to anticipate their moves. It was almost not even a skill in the game so much as the type of person that was playing the game. Those who were observant in real life were just naturally more attentive at their opponent.

No shame in surrender? Well wasn't that something she had to mull over. The two had been doing a great deal of remaining stationary for a dual, but one attack, evasive maneuver and then counter defend was hardly a dual. It had happened so quickly, and neither of them sustained any damage as the timer slowly ticked on. Vynessa had been stuck on the lower ground from the get go; This was metaphorical of course, as they were standing quite firmly on level grit and dust. One glance at his take off, and even before that, Vyn knew she was in a run for her money.
It was quite a learning curve, those few seconds, and that was defiantly a good thing. She wasn't thrilled that he had dominated her so quickly, but all things considered she was never going to beat him with such little training. However, better him than some relentless monster.

What 'cha gonna do?  Get better.

She looked at her gripped wrist and then down her nose as the tip of his immaculate blade lightly grazed the underside of her chin. For something that sharp it tickled surprisingly. His words of praise were pleasant to hear, rather unusual to hear them from someone with a blade at your throat but they were encouraging all the same.

"Well fine sir, I think, on that note, I will be surrendering." She informed him, with her free hand pulling up a window and, with some effort, hit surrender. "Now if you don't mind, I hadn't planned on a shave for a few days so..." Vynessa lifted her chin and pivoted backwards, turning anti-clockwise to clear the blade.

Taking her hand back, Vynessa sheathed her blade and pulled at the base of her ponytail before standing with hands on hips. "I'm Vynessa. Might I say, your skills are pretty admirable considering this is only day two in this death trap. That... and your equipment is hella fine."

[[Moltres, Rosa is mentioned in here too. This is your reply in a way as well.]]

The buzzer stopped as soon as she stepped back, acknowledging the surrender and declaring the winner of the duel in the air above their heads. It didn't take much to convince her to surrender... possibly because she realized the situation she was in. This girl, Cain had to admit, was one of the first that he would actually bank on surviving this slaughterhouse of a game.

There was a quote from one of his favorite books back in reality. "I am, dear sir, not in the business of denying myself what I feel. If it is admiration, I will feel admiration. If it is anger, I will feel anger. Repressed emotions lead only to a repressed soul and your empathy is unbecoming of you. It is I who should be empathetic of your plight for living in a world where you can not speak what you have thought nor accept the very foundation of your being for fear of others critical eye." Cain had always loved this quote for some reason. The gentleman in the book so very well represented him. Not because he too struggled against a name he could not change but because he was not going to bother himself with keeping admiration or disdain quiet. There was no benefit in it so why would you bother?

It told what kind of person Cain was when he really only bothered with things that helped him progress forward. Saying the truth, one way or another, would not stop him from becoming stronger. Admiration for this girls move made him no weaker than it would be had he left it unsaid.

He watched down at his screen as his experience bar rose slightly and nodded. Of course, he wasn't the only one to gain benefits. There was a small sound coming from around the girl, a slightly dinging of an alert that Cain had heard before.

A skill raise... or a stat raise. Maybe both. The game wasn't quite as focused on quests as he thought when he first started. It had surprised him to find his skills levelling up not based on his level but how much he used the skill itself. If he had to wager a guess, she likely got her weapon skill raised. Though... being completely honest, Cain wasn't sure what that even meant. That he was more profuse in the weapon or something? Able to more likely be able to hit things with the sword? He wasn't sure. After all, you can't expect him to know everything. He's new, give him a break. One night's haul of training wasn't going to be all THAT amazing.

He stepped back a little when she moved around his sword and from the shadows of his hood again, he couldn't help but smile. Yes, definitely the witty one. "You already know my name, obviously." He said with a nod, referring to when she had looked at the bar earlier. It didn't bother him much anymore, though if she hadn't been good at fighting, it probably would have still. Something about a decent fight made him willing to forgive little things like that.

"And I just got a few lucky breaks. Spent all of yesterday and last night gathering and completing quests. If you know who to talk to, it's not that hard to level up at least once in this town." He shrugged a little, free hand moving to his item menu to put the sword away. It took a moment but the sword seemed to fade away from his hand and back into his quick stock so he could pull it out later and not have to carry it. Sure, he liked the feel of the weapon in his hand but that didn't mean the stupid heavy thing was worth carrying around every single place he went.

"And that," Cain motioned to where the sword just disappeared from, "was just a lucky chest drop in an area I found. Apparently the chest could have given one of three swords and that was the one it opened up to for me. If you know where it is, you could get one too, though it's pretty hard to get to, admittedly, as a level one." He had a lot of trouble to get it. Some NPC had just given him the hint that it was there, however, and he wasn't even sure the chest was actually spawned at that time of night, day, or season. Cain shrugged a little before eying the girl. He had been meaning to try to find at least someone competent to train with for a little while. There was this quest he needed help doing, after all, that seemed to be impossible at his level. One more person, maybe even two people would need to give him a hand if he wanted to finish it. Cain had this strange feeling that the quest was one of the several smaller bosses near the town of beginning but he wasn't going to risk his skin going out alone.

His eyes glanced over for a moment around the training field. Most of the players were buy the dummies, hunched over and panting from exertion. They probably couldn't figure out how to charge their swords and instead were ineffectively chopping away at straw. Did they not even read the manual before putting on the headset? It seemed like basic knowledge to do so. So basic that Cain wasn't even going to bother helping. Nothing to gain on his end, for one, and for two, if they were stupid enough to step into a freakin virtual world, they should at least read the player manual that came with the game first.

There was one girl who seemed to be watching them. Sword in hand, just sort of staring in Vynessa and his own directions. Possibly watching the all together to short duel. If she was going to come over to them, let her do so on her own time. Otherwise, she could just stand there and watch for all he cared.  His eyebrows went up underneath his hood as he glanced in her direction for a moment or two before the dinging noise still coming from Vynessa began to bother him.

"You have a stat or skill up. You should probably check it," He said with a sigh, rubbing at the back of his head through the cloth material around him.

System Message for Vynessa:
Congratulations, you have reached level 2 in One Handed Straight Sword
Congratulations, you have gained +2 in agility (for keeping on your feet)
